  • Learn how to crochet an Extra Large Fidget Toy - complete pattern in the video, but here is the link to the blog post if you would rather read there - hookedforlifep...
    Crochet fidget toys are terrific to keep your fingers busy! They are soft, quiet, colorful, and best of all washable because of the acrylic yarn. The ruffles pull out of the center without end because of its mobius construction.
    By special request I have also done a smaller one - YT video is here - • Crochet Fidget Toy - S...
    This one was made in Red Heart Super Saver Stripes in the Retro Stripes colorway -
    amzn.to/3JoE3rC (amazon affiliate link)
    And a crochet hook size 4.50mm
    Ch 17.
    Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. 15 dc
    Round 1: Set up to crochet in the round but add a 180 degree twist (see video) by joining in the bottom of the dc. Ch 3 and place marker in top of that ch-3, 2 dc in same sp as rnd join, 3 dc in each dc across the bottom of Row 1, continue on and put 3 dc in top of each dc of Row 1, creating a single round with 90 dc in it. Join rnd in marked ch.
    Rounds 2 and 3: Ch 3, place marker in top of that ch-3, 2 dc in same st as rnd join, 3 dc in each dc around. Join rnd in marked ch. 270 dc after Rnd 2, 810 dc after Rnd 3.
    Rnd 4: Slip Stitch in each dc around. End off and weave in ends.

    What I like about these is kids can throw them around and no one's going to get hurt and they're less likely to break anything. They're easy for little ones to hold and carry. They would be good for pets to play with too, I would imagine. They're washable, durable....all in all a great toy for little ones.

    Thank you so much. I have made many of these for family members especially for the toddlers. I tell them that there is a secret in the middle of the ball. I show them the magic ruffle and how to pull it and how it never ends. My 3 year old great nephew was afraid of trying to catch a regular ball thrown at him and now he and his Mom play ball and even tag with this. I use Simply Soft yarn for extra softness and a size G hook.

    Thanks for posting this! For others who crochet very tightly like me, it's probably better to move up a hook size or two, because my ball turned out a little bit flat and not so spherical. But it looks cool even in a regular colorful yarn!

    Excellent tutorial! If you want it a bit smaller than this one but larger than the pocket sized tutorial, can you just make a tad shorter chain? Loved the striped yarn version.

    • @hookedforlifewithMBT
      @hookedforlifewithMBT  5 місяців тому

      The thing you have to watch out for with a shorter chain is to make sure it is long enough to get the ruffle through easily. Maybe switch to half double and a shorter chain? I think you have to experiment.

      I was also thinking for you, if you did a lower number of DC in row 1 for a smaller opening (maybe 10 instead of 15?) you could do 2 complete mobius rounds instead of three which would save a ton of time and yarn but still be cute. That last mobius round has 810 dc in it and it took some time.

    Could also be used as a loofah maybe? Just use cotton instead of acrylic.

    • @hookedforlifewithMBT
      @hookedforlifewithMBT  3 місяці тому +1

      Depends on your climate? If I lived in a humid area I would be concerned that cotton wouldn’t dry completely in the middle due to the density of stitches, and maybe get moldy. If you live in a more arid area though go for it!
