I was 18 and was a lively day out..can't remember the pitch being that bad ! But harry Cripps with a header.. priceless... Liverpool played man city on the same day..made the station after a bit lively! Great memories though.. COYL

It is an odd thing that even though i have supported EFC all my life and was mental about football in the 70s and 80s, I can recall the starting eleven of Leeds, but could barely name five in the Everton lineup.

Well, some great old footage,so well done for that, really enjoyed it. Some good football ,a terrific atmosphere played on what appears to be someone’s allotment and two real quality goals , sadly too many of the comments are not about what happened on the pitch but what went on either on the terraces and in the street ffs

Incredibly, this match was played at exactly the same time as the Liverpool-Man City cup tie over at Anfield. Must have been nearly 100,000 altogether at the two grounds that day. Wouldn't happen now. The Police would be whingeing about resources.

As soon as a ‘big team’ loses at home to Millwall, then they’re on the slide. And apart from a ‘brilliant mid-eighties’, Everton have been on the slide ever since.

What is it with scousers here we have them using Stanley knives with the Millwall and we're doing the same when Luton played them in 85 I dare say times haven't changed even today but tell me different if Everton supporters are less likely to use such tactics after all it's 2024 so surely the supporters are cleaner

I was in the street end,the millwall lads came in and got battered,I remember thinking what the hell is going on I was only 13 did not know what footie violence was, just thought it was evertonians fighting each other,I distinctly remember the Everton lads taking the sheepskin coats of these guys and these guys all piling on to the pitch to get away ,not only did they get a kicking it was freezing that day,No fun going back to London, but they did win so some consolation.

The moment it sparked off Tony, was there a big parting of the crowd, a large gap
on the terracing and presumably about 100+ Everton were fronting up to 30+ Millwall?

Two goals scored and that looks like they were into the Park End...and a good few Millwall
jump up...but there is not much of a roar. If the hard men went in the opposite Everton
Gwladys Street End,..it sounds to me like there was not enough of them to hold their own.
But tbh, it was pot luck, you took your life in your hands when you chanced it and went
steaming into the home end., it would have been very unpredictable in normal circumstances
but those with the toughest reputation would always have a very big mob at the back
of their own home end terrace,..... a visiting mob too small to be effective would get battered.

No way. Harper was clearly offside when the ball was flicked on to him. At that time you had to have two full defenders between you and the goal line when the ball was played forward to you to be onside, the goal keeper usually, but not always, being one of those defenders.
