- As the world marks Press Freedom Day, we turn to Gaza and the mounting toll of journalist deaths since October 7th. More than 100 media workers have been killed in the last seven months, as Israel continues its deadly war on Gaza.
So how are journalists in Gaza continuing their reporting? And are journalists in the West doing enough to shine a light on the plight of their Palestinian colleagues?
This week on UpFront, Marc Lamont Hill speaks to Hind Khoudary, an Al Jazeera journalist who has been reporting from the ground since day one.

The brave journalists of Palestine have enabled the world to understand the atrocities committed in the region by the Israeli occupation. They have been reporting fearlessly long before October 7. They have also helped those who were unaware and ill informed about the situation understand the conflict better.

I’m so sorry to Gaza. I totally understand what Hind says. Since this latest situation began in October, I have been on edge and in a constant state of panic and I’m in Chicago. I do not think I could carry on if I were there. I truly pray every day for Gaza. I wish I could make this stop. I want so much to comfort them. All of them. Tge tiny children to the elderly I wish I could comfort them and protect them.

That’s how PTSD works! While you are going through horrific trauma, you are in survival mode and your brain is protecting you. But, once you get to safety, the memories and horror’s start to haunt you at strange times, you start to see things, hear things, smell things that remind you of the horrors. It will take a lot of help, time, patience to deal with the PTSD that will come. But you can get through it, it does get easier, but you will need help.
They say, there's a class of medicine which helps people cope, that helps them process trauma.
@@sid7804 Yes there is some, I use to take some for that, it helps. Behavioral therapy helps a lot too, it worked for me and I’m doing pretty good now after many years of not knowing what was wrong with me. These people are going to need mass help, PTSD destroys lives, I hope we get lots of people to volunteer their times to help them. PTSD alone will kill many of them by suicide, although Palestinians are very strong faithful people, the images and trauma can become to much. It’s not their fault.
America knows very well that it is not possible to defeat the owner of the land, so it seeks to save them in any way

hamas arrested hind in 2018 for supporting street protests. supporting the palestinians right for armed resistance is not the same as supporting hamas. Hind has said so herself in an interview some years back that she doesn't support Hamas.
