  • This porch project seems like it's taking forever but we finally finished laying down the steel deck pan for the concrete. Now we're ready to finish sealing the joint between the deck pan and the house, then we can buzz off the ends and start building the pour stop forms.

    I have followed this project from the beginning due to my interest in building an ICF home. Thanks dude for having the rocks to put yourself on stage while figuring it out, getting your hands on the handle and make some mistakes While we all watch and gain from your efforts. The composite deck looks good!! 2 pieces of advice, puddle the deck where it bears on the beams. You don’t have to heat up the beams. Gets some Lincoln electric 6022 and puddle weld the deck. Also you should button punch your laps being that you have a large span between beams. That deck is designed for button punching, it keeps your seams from busting!!!

    • @Guildbrookfarm
      @Guildbrookfarm  3 роки тому

      We screwed the laps every 12"

    • @tylerkinsey7553

      @Guildbrook Farm. That should be fine if your using “ Lap screws” lap screws have a fine pitch and hold the 2 plies of the deck tighter. May I ask you a question? Why did you chose not to use a transition strip where you transition the deck sheets the other way?

    I actually watched your concrete pouring video first and, like others, was keen to find out what type of supports you were using.
    Interesting to see that this type of construction uses effectively half the amount of concrete a solid slab would use and still does he same job .. although not quite as strong.
    I'm looking to build a concrete shelter/bunker with a suitable thickness concrete ceiling so this doesn't appear to be what I'm looking for as It doesn't have a constant thickness I need.
    Well done though!
    You've put a lot of effort into the job and I note that in the concreting video, the crew did a great job too.
    Cheers from Australia.

    Happy new year, the view from the deck is going to be great. I am sure glass rail panels would break the budget. I had a friend use 4"x4" 4 AWG live stock panels that he had powder coated in black. They were set between wood posts and rails but welded steel tubing would also be a good option. The black panels sort of blended in and let the view show through. Eliminated lots of painted fence boards and was quite reasonable cost wise. Make sense when the current codes call for a max 4" spacing, that's a lot of boards to maintain on your large deck.

    Well done! I am honestly impressed you did all of that by yourself and you do deserve to toot your own horn. That was a lot of work.
    One question simply because I am just so curious. The places where the pan changes direction has left quite an opening where the pour could just go through therefore I know there is something you'll do to block that, but what? I just can't figure it out in my mind. 🤣
    Also, I hope y'all have a great 2021 and are able to get some of your garden build done this year as well.
