Installing Composite Steel Deck Pan for Elevated Concrete Slabs
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- This porch project seems like it's taking forever but we finally finished laying down the steel deck pan for the concrete. Now we're ready to finish sealing the joint between the deck pan and the house, then we can buzz off the ends and start building the pour stop forms.

Established in 2015 and now nestled in the foothills of North Carolina, Guildbrook Farm is a modern mountain homestead in pursuit of developing a more self sustainable way of life. From planting, growing, canning and preserving our own food to managing our forests and land resources, our life long journey demonstrates preparedness, DIY projects, strategies and ideas that you can practice to help increase your own self sufficiency and balance with the land. Follow along as we continue to develop a little homestead in the mountains of Appalachia.
Go ahead a brag!!! You deserve all the credit. Amazing work.
Quite true.
Every time I watch one of your videos before bed, I end up dreaming of a little farm in the mountains. I kind of love it.
That view at the end looks so good it looks fake, going to be amazing on that deck drinking a coffee or whatever
Toot that horn Jeremy! You are doing amazing work considering you didn't have experience or confidence when you started. TOOT TOOOT!
I have followed this project from the beginning due to my interest in building an ICF home. Thanks dude for having the rocks to put yourself on stage while figuring it out, getting your hands on the handle and make some mistakes While we all watch and gain from your efforts. Teddy Roosevelt spoke about the man in the arena ...he is the doer that knows both victory and defeat but presses on .
Thanks for the content. It certainly brightened up the year for me. Your house will be beautiful to live in!
I hope so!
@@Guildbrookfarm No hope Luke.....will
It’s hard to believe it’s been 3 years since we poured your deck! You built a great house! Awesome view too!
You have a reason to toot your own horn. You have done an amazing job!
Ive been an avid fan right from the start when you have newly purchased the land you are building on now.you are an amazing couple...youve gone a long, long way.cant wait to see your forever home.wow what a build and taking us along the journey...
Thank you for letting us follow along, it has been exciting to watch you build from the ground up!! I wish you and your family a happy 2021, and a move in date, hopefully in the spring!!!!!
Wow, you all have a fabulous view from those heights. You did an awesome job, it's okay to be proud of your accomplishments.
Happy New Year
Every step of the way the build has been beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Excellent job! You have much to 'toot your horn' about, you and your family. Enjoy your videos, always learning something.
Wishing you and your loved ones health, peace and continued progress on your beautiful build. Love from Canada 🇨🇦.
The hubby and I first found you back when you first posted the "they're all gone" video and have followed you guys ever since. It's so exciting to see the progress and ups and downs y'all have faced. You are very resilient and I pray for a great 2021 for you. Here's to hopefully moving in before the end of the year.
Happy New Year!
The composite deck looks good!! 2 pieces of advice, puddle the deck where it bears on the beams. You don’t have to heat up the beams. Gets some Lincoln electric 6022 and puddle weld the deck. Also you should button punch your laps being that you have a large span between beams. That deck is designed for button punching, it keeps your seams from busting!!!
We screwed the laps every 12"
Arc welding is the way to go with that stuff. He could handle it.
@Guildbrook Farm. That should be fine if your using “ Lap screws” lap screws have a fine pitch and hold the 2 plies of the deck tighter. May I ask you a question? Why did you chose not to use a transition strip where you transition the deck sheets the other way?
Things are coming along! You two have come so far in this journey, and it won’t be long until you will be in your new beautiful home! Happy New Year! 🎆
Happy New Year! All tge best for this new year.
It looks closer to finish every video, great job guys!!! Blessings for 21!

Happy New Year !!!!
Happy New Year to the four of you from Kingston Ontario, and also to your neighbours who helped and to the companies that have kindly sponsored you - may they become filthy rich as a result.
And thanks for sharing - I started watching y'all when you were still chasing chickens and canning at your old place.
That's one heck of a deck.
Glad to read all is well in your reply to another viewer. With all that’s happening in the world right now it’s hard not to worry. I keep peaking to see if I missed a notification. Spring is just around the corner. That will be exciting to see you close to moving in. Take care.
Happy New Year! 2021 - the year you’ll be moving into your home ☺️
Happy New Year Jeremy, Jamie & the girls! Hope you have a Blessed Year! Aloha from Hawaii!
I actually watched your concrete pouring video first and, like others, was keen to find out what type of supports you were using.
Interesting to see that this type of construction uses effectively half the amount of concrete a solid slab would use and still does he same job .. although not quite as strong.
I'm looking to build a concrete shelter/bunker with a suitable thickness concrete ceiling so this doesn't appear to be what I'm looking for as It doesn't have a constant thickness I need.
Well done though!
You've put a lot of effort into the job and I note that in the concreting video, the crew did a great job too.
Cheers from Australia.
Hey 👋 hows my friends doing much love ❤️ I’m with you all in spirit much love from my family to yours I can’t wait to see finishing I’ll be coming soon
Happy New Year to you and your family. Been following your build since you two were sitting on lawn chairs on the dirt foundation. Have enjoyed every one of your videos. Can’t wait for the deck pour. Awesome house.
It's very impressive. That's a lot of hard work. Well done!
Sir what you are building is nothing like what I thought you were going to build, and I did not always agree with the how. That being said You have earned a lot of respect from me. Looking forward to you sharing more of your journey. Hope 2021 is a great year for you.
Happy New Year and the deck looks amazing. Appreciate you two sharing your adventure with us. Here’s to a healthy, warm and safe new year

Happy New Year ❗️
Happy New Year Guildbrook Family!
Excellent work, Jeremy. :)
Hi guys. Just hopin your all okay. Haven't seen y'all in 30. Blessings💗
Happy new year, the view from the deck is going to be great. I am sure glass rail panels would break the budget. I had a friend use 4"x4" 4 AWG live stock panels that he had powder coated in black. They were set between wood posts and rails but welded steel tubing would also be a good option. The black panels sort of blended in and let the view show through. Eliminated lots of painted fence boards and was quite reasonable cost wise. Make sense when the current codes call for a max 4" spacing, that's a lot of boards to maintain on your large deck.
Black cattle panels would look great
Happy new year to all!
Looks great! Wow, I’m exhausted just watching. Talented and gifted family. So how do you cover the holes at the corners where the ends are open? Best wishes and a Happy New Year!
Wow well done Jeremy
Did you stop making videos? I learn so much from you all. I want to start a homestead and love your videos. I started canning because of Jamie's video on canning soup and bought the 921 and the camp chef camp stove. I hope you make more videos. You all are so smart.
We’ll have a new video hopefully this week. The weather has been a problem.
TOOT TOOT !! Great job!!
You should toot your own horn. You are doing a great job and we are learning while you are learning and building. Happy New Year. 🎉🥂
Coming along great Jeremy!! I'm really interested to see how the deck comes together. I've never seen this type before. I hope you and the girls had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
Well done! I am honestly impressed you did all of that by yourself and you do deserve to toot your own horn. That was a lot of work.
One question simply because I am just so curious. The places where the pan changes direction has left quite an opening where the pour could just go through therefore I know there is something you'll do to block that, but what? I just can't figure it out in my mind. 🤣
Also, I hope y'all have a great 2021 and are able to get some of your garden build done this year as well.
Spray foam 😉
@@Guildbrookfarm - Wow! Is that stuff really that strong? I ask because I have a few pieces of foam board loose in the eves of my patio cover that is shaped much like your deck pans. Now you've got me wondering should I replace those with foam instead. 🤔
Been missing you guys.....
Happy New Year you all. You are doing a great job of your new place.
Happy New year
So glad to see a new video from you
Fabulous views from that wrap around deck :) Please consider parging or stuccoing those deck support columns, I think they would look a lot nicer ;)
rosette/plug weld 8mm hole in deck, strike arc against beam, count to 2, weld flows out to lighter gauge metal, done, move on :)
You'll never move, EVER, not ever, no never, to quote Taylor Swift. Good job. Take care, friends. Happy New Year (we hope against hope that it will be happy, or at least, not terrible!)! ~Cynthia
