How much I miss LucasArts. We were happy and didn't know it. Never take anything for granted people.
I was happy I just thought it would it last longer.
I mean they nailed it and then decided to forget all the progress they made.
We very much knew.
Grew up in a golden time then got over a decade of stagnation where every “new” feature came at the cost of 2 others that already existed.
i did not think pc gaming would peak in 1998
I don’t miss the LucasArts that lost its nerve and cancelled Battlefront 3, 3 times.
So true. They had some excellent games.. XwingVsTIE, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, etc
Console Game Song cracks me up every time 😂😂
Brilliant.
It's originally from The Evil Within wab
It gives me heat to get rep and you need rep to get bank.

"I would rather go to the cows field next to my house and forceably put my head up the nearest hefers f*ckin ring piece." Thanks for that mental image Mack. 😂😂😂 Another great review sir. 👍

Disney are so diverse and inclusive .... until they have to sell in China 🇨🇳 🤣🤣🤣
Amen
If only they can give us the China version of all their movies and games lol
@@darken2417 maybe I should start buying the Chinese version, at least all the bs diversity, inclusion virtue signaling horseshit would be left out.
Well they gave China, Mulan and it made it a Flop
@@kishenkoolskills90
Actually they gave China what they in their leftist minds thought China wanted not what China actually wanted. China wanted realism instead they got chi using super wahmen. China wanted general Shang to be epic, powerful, but he was cut out for SJW reasons. They gave China nothing of what they wanted. And lets be honest a completely realistic medieval China Mulanish movie would have been pretty good. Not sure either way why they needed to make it an adaption of Mulan which is already great as it is but o well.

Mac needs to make a full version of the console game song.
I agree

Yea yea its a CONSOLE game a CONSOLE CONSOLE CONSOLE game
Why do all EA games look like they spent millions on licensing and top end game engines, then spent 5 minutes phoning in the game design and story? Just polished turds with less depth than games made 15 years ago.
Look at the flying. It so dull. Where's the sweeping curves as you barrel roll and swoop across a battleships hull while blasting fools and emerging from explosions?
That’s an insult to games made 15 years ago, poor comparison considering you can choose many games from then that are far better and deeper than a lot of the garbage put out today
Cash grabs. Good devs, even good overall game direction but they are on a leash to only create the bare minimum to get you to throw the wallet one time, then they need to fool you again in the future with another title. Its what the wonderful economics and business model of mobile platforms that I would love to burn to the ground sometime. They just need your attention for as much as possible and before your realize its shallow crap, enough for you to spend ANY money in it.
@@ciocki the biggest mindblower to me was how the original battlefront 1/2 were amazing games, had HUGE battles, space combat, tons of gamemodes... then like 10 years later they remake it and it is basically a skin on top of battlefield 4 with less everything and microtransactions on day 0.

So, in other words, Battlefront 2 (2005) had more epic space battles... and it was released 15 years ago!
Nah. If you want good space battles its about x-wing alliance from 1999. That game is still great and VR compatible with mods. Its the ultimate starfighter simulator. I will give this game credit for having potential. I mean if they manage to add a mission editor and more fleshed out PVP and patch the bugs it would be a solid game. RIght now its alright. Obviously the 90s games are better.
@@zackeryhardy9504 I agree about X-Wing Alliance, great game with a decent story. Personally my favs are the original X-Wing and Tie Fighter, but being an older PC gamer, I've been fortunate enough to play them all... I was specifically speaking about multiplayer "battlefield" type gameplay.
Is this why literally no one is playing this game anymore including you?
@Benjamin McCann I would agree. That's why I said starfighter simulator. Starfighters are what space ships are referred to in the SW universe. Elite dangerous does not call them starfighters or any other space game that I now of.
So I literally meant best star wars space sim. Obviously games like freelancer, elite dangerous and others are a bit better in my opinion. But that's strictly my preferance.
@digduck He said 2005 BF2. Not the one made by ea. The one made in 2005. completely different game.
I'm imagining the next years to come, new "extreme powerfull" consoles, 70 dollars games, new "revolutionary" engines.......and.......we will still be doing 5x5 on pvp.
I'm convinced this is only 5x5 because VR couldn't handle more and they wanted the same experience across the board. It's pretty pitiful really.
I don't care for graphics. At the end of the day, the game mechanics is what makes a game feel like it's worth my money and I HOPE in the future we get a game that has shitty/mediocre graphics but is amazing in terms of number of players and battles.
It's gone backwards because developers stopped including proper, dedicated server software and made everything P2P. Back in the late 90s and 00s 32 player servers were pretty much the standard for any FPS. With modded servers you could have 64 or more and it still ran well.
Now you're lucky to get 12 in so called "AAA" games. Even then you often get lag :/
Planetside 2 is years old now and that has around 3000 players on a map.
Still playing Xwing Alliance with mods... looks like I won’t be changing anytime soon :(
yeah, it's looking good. won't be long before it's finished.
Same, still have it installed on my gaming pc, looks great in 1080p. Game is freaking hard though haha but I love it.

How dare you laugh at inclusion and equality Mack........even if “inclusion” for them means, exclude 90% of the population to appease the 10% 🤷♂️
Im glad I am not the only one who noticed. The characters were so fucking bad.... Imperial Officers with fucking edgy fashionable hair was the last straw. Couldn't even respect military culture.
In a world with aliens and shit, that really doesn't matter, the problem is making trash unrelatabe characters and breaking the lore even more, the fucking empire had a dressing code God damn it, even battlefront got ir right.

The game is incredible in VR btw. :) Way better than playing it on a monitor...
VR is good for this game. There is far too much going on sometimes and I reverted back to my screen and joystick :P
The game isn't primarily a VR game. It has vr support. If it were a VR game, you wouldn't need a game pad. You'd be able to use your motion controllers to grasp the cockpit controls and switches etc.

You have to be kidding me. SWBF2 is now an amazing game. So far this game is shaping up really well too and the gameplay is great
Fallen Order was great and Battlefront II took some time but is now a fantastic game as well. Stop circlejerking.
@@ryanwhitlock7350 Fallen Order is average. Great would be Witcher 3, except Star Wars based. EA has not made any great Star Wars games unfortunately. And anyone picking up EA BF2 just now will get shit on by the higher ranked players. The originals are much better.
@@ravenarrow4631 there's actually a co-op mode, which is the most popular and you can almost always get into a game, where you're put on a team with a bunch of bots and 3 other players against the enemy ai. Its honestly hella fun and there's gotta be around 30 heroes and villains now. The enemy ai is good enough that, if you're not on top of the objective, you can be overrun pretty easily. I'd say its definitely worth a buy. Even Mack has said that in an updated review of the game. Its fairly easy to unlock new weapons, and new abilities, but there's still enough unlockable shit that I, even though I've been playing the game for a couple years now (admittedly off and on) there's still stuff that I can unlock, like weapon attachments, which are only unlockable through experience, like how many kills you get with that weapon will unlock a scope or something. Say what you want about EA, but Dice has really turned that game around and I'd say its even better than what they promised at launch.
@@-hasamastersdegreeinwumbol8565 the coop mode is underwhelming, the battles are not even half the size of the mass multiplayer mode.

@@TheHelix123 ad hominem.
Mack, just want to say your review of The Last Jedi was hands down one of the funniest and most satisfying.
I watched it twice.
It took me 1.5 hours to get my X-55 configured properly before I could even play it. Then VR was all goofed up. I spent my "before refund" time just getting it in a playable state. I enjoyed once I was done setting it up though.
The Star Wars universe is so rich in content and they always waste it. Disney bought a property that they mostly appear to hate. This is definitely a console game first. Glad they didn't try to sell it for $80 Canadian that a AAA game goes for now-a-days.
For me VR and HOTAS saves it and made it worth the price.
Love ya Mac. Keep on keepin' it real.
@Illusion The game is good with a HOTAS and especially with VR
I read EA is releasing a DLC soon containing Tie-Woke class with rainbow color panels. Imperial's most sophisticated fighters up to date.
They want you to get bored quickly so you will buy another game (that is probably just another remake or sequel with less content than the original)
Finally, the no BS anti-woke review is out!
Great video as always I’ve watched you for many years you save me a great deal of money keep up the good work
I love this game for the sheer nostalgia. However the story line felt off... didn’t have the Star Wars Feel... the women characters felt forced and unappealing.
I hit refund in around 40 mins/10
Thanks for the review Mack. I'm gutted because through every press release and trailer for this I have felt completely apathetic to it, and this should have been exciting me as an XvT player hoping for a spiritual successor, and yet everything I saw just didn't give me any feeling. I had genuinely hoped it was just experience to not get my hopes up for an EA Star Wars game and that they would completely out do my expectations. I think what puts me off with the new Star Wars stuff (films included) is that everything feels small scale. All the space battles are rarely in space. Always in a planets atmosphere, or around a rock, or debris field. It just smacks me as window dressing
I recently played XvT Balance of Power Campaign with my brother (using something called GameRanger to make a virtual LAN so it works online) and we had so much fun. Despite the pretty graphics in Squadrons I still think I would rather go back and play the old one (23 years old now!). When a Star Destroyer appeared in that it was a genuine 'Oh shit' moment and the missions were brutally hard at times.
Love your Reviews, pure honest is just so good.
Looking at the characters the game should have been named Star Wars: Pillocks.
I'm here to listen to Mack rip on Hands on Throttle and Sandwich problems.
Mac, as per usual: I love your videos, your don't give rat's ass humor, and brutally honest reviews that we so need. Thank you for saving my money with this. All of the stuff you mentioned definitely would have killed it for me.
VR does look strange, it somehow manages to look flat despite being in VR. A lot of things feel very incorrectly scaled also, the star destroyers are supposed to be massive compared to the single pilot fighters but in game they seemed like only maybe 5x as large instead of 50x.
Gameplay was pretty shallow as well. I got a kick from flying the iconic ships in VR in the big space battles but after that wore off my critical thinking kicked in and I started to notice that there wasn’t much substance to any of it and everything was done to a pretty marginal level of quality. Textures, models, lighting, story, controls, it’s all just average at best. This could and should have been epic but it feels phoned in.
The extra modes, maps, and ships are coming later as paid DLC.
Appreciate you work and efforts as always. It's hard to want to give EA a dime.
You forgot the multiple times in the story that the characters have to tell you as the player that they are the good guys, and the imperials are the bad guys. Word for word.
I just want to thank you for your work man
I actually bought it on Steam for the VR, tried about a mission or two in VR and I immediately got bored of it. This is the first game I am requesting a refund on, I didn't even get to the SJW garbage yet and I was so over it. It would be fine for $20 maybe but anything over that is just too much.
Honestly the SJW stuff is mostly stuff the writers said on twitter. There is no crap about the pronouns or anything like that in the campaign. But the writers had to make a stink about it on the internet. Honestly just skip the dialog between characters. They are boaring and 1 dimentional and the rebbels are absolutly cring worthy. I actually didn't mind the imperials that much. They seemed just kind of boring but at least they weren't cringe. Just forgettable. There were some good battles but it mostly just acts as a tutorial for multiplayer. I will say multiplayer is pretty darn fun. Mac's review is spot on at the 6/10 mark. The multiplayer is fun, bit its also limited in game modes. Unfortunatly the game needs to be compeditive to be fun. Its more like a rocket league style fun where you are being compeditive. However with the current ranking system, you don't get matched up well so many of us who came from x-wing alliance are basicly wiping the floor with everyone. its hard to get a good match due to how many people are just completely terrible at the game leading to a curb stop of a game. That needs to be fixed or else people are going to get board real quick.
I think "PC games" are now being redefined as "Politically Correct games".
ooh thats clever
with the great controls had so much potential imagine a 20 vs 20 massive battle welp whatever great review mack stay honest also they announced some patches today including the hotas stuff

Best review I have seen for it. Good job.
This game scratches the itch for me to have a Star Wars "sim" type flight experience, but that is all. I haven't finished the story but I agree about the characters and agendas. One of the female characters said they were at the Battle of Endor and I screamed "NO YOU WEREN"T!" at the screen. LOL.

@@bengejuknowit3048 I love Mack, but I knew he was going to be biased against the Mafia Remake. The fact is, 60 bucks for the Mafia remake, Mafia 2 Definitive Edition, and Mafia 3 is a great deal. 3 games for the price of one. I'd call that worth a buy.

I mean I like frisk and gunny but yeah I pretty much agree with you on the characters for the most part. Aside from wedge, everyone is pretty bland. Political agendas crawl their way into everything nowadays, huh?
Hasn’t Star Wars always been political?
What is exactly the political agenda they are pushing here? From the review, it’s very vague, without specific examples. If it’s about inclusion, so what, The Railroad in Fallout 4 is about inclusion and it’s one of the best factions in the game, unlike Brotherhood of Steel where half of characters are pompous laughingstocks. Lame characters can be with either political agendas. Is it Wolfenstein Youngblood kind of lame?
@@PearlWorldOrder I mean exactly! people complaining the rebels are a bunch of SJW when that's what they've always ever been, they're literally fighting to free the galaxy from the goddamn space nazi for crying out loud...
@@Sideway8 uh no the rebels haven't been sjws the whole time. They were freedom fighting vigilantes who were trying to overthrow the literal planet destroying tyrants who ruled their homes with no mercy. That is extremely far from modern sjws.

Dark Forces back in the 90's... how I miss those days. Hell, SotE on Nintendo 64 was great too.
I'm only 30 seconds in and I can tell you I'm way too high for this review. That "its a console game" song had me laughing my ass off. Good shit Mack. Love you man
There's something really wrong with your VR settings. Mine looks nothing like that, it's crispy clear on my Quest. You can compare your own VR footage to other VR footage on UA-cam and you will see that it's not blurry like your footage is.
I have to agree here - I might not go as far as 'crispy clear', but they are certainly not the blurry mess as shown in the review. 100% agree with the rest of the review though...
There is a bug going on that screws with some people's VR setups. Mine is crystal clear, but other people are having it blurry like mac. This game is wildly inconsistent with various vr headsets. I mean some people are having terrible framerate issues. Scale is super off for some people, and others have crashing all the while some people have some of the people have an amazing experience. Its super inconsistent. If you wish to buy the game, you may want to wait a couple of weeks until a patch as its basically a lottery system right now if the game works right.
My game looks terrible in VR (rift S) but I don't have the Hotas bug (X56), it took a while to even get VR going until saw the game needed to be in windowed mode other wise VR would just crash the game for me.
Like Zackery mentioned it's inconsistent and we can only judge it on our own expereinces. Playing the game on a normal screen IMHO was bland and it just felt dated and lack luster. Played 30 mins of multiplayer and just ditched it.
If you think the character models are bad, check out WatchDogs Legion...
Held off on buying it day 1 after hearing about some of the technical issues. I'll probably wait a bit longer to see if the expand the multiplayer and continue to support the game post launch, if they do I'll grab it on sale.
wow man, you keep saving me money thanks and by the way i went back and played jedi knight 2 and he wasnt kidding about the lightsaber battles they are amazingly done. OLD games and REmakes is where its at nowadays

Thanks for the review. Regarding the HOTAS not working correctly, I’ve had similar problems with my Xbox One Controller, when playing Non-Steam games, when Steam was running in the background. Big deadzone and supercharged sensitivity. Closing Steam made things normal again. Could be some setting in Steam, which conflicts.
What VR headset is Mack using? Visuals will be directly linked to which one you have. Index looks good. They need to fix hotas asap though
Yeah, yeah, it's a console game!
So... they took Battlefront 2 space battles and made a game out of it.
Yawn. Big yawn.
The ea battlefront 2 not the original one.
The ships feel completely different to battlefront 2, I have my own gripes with the game, but it's disingenuous to say they're the same
@@milkman1649 Yeah I was hoping the space battles would be more like the original Battlefront 2.
The older Rogue Squadron games on the Nintendo GameCube weren't really that immersive as far as a Campaign goes but at least you could manauver your X Wing just like you could in the films...
180 & 360 turns were handy for turning the tables around on the Tie Fighters shooting you from behind or you could do a U Turn to quickly get back into the action if you flew past your objective that you hadn't destroyed yet...
So fast forrward to Star Wars Battlefront & it concentrates predominately on Multiplayer gaming...
Fast forward a few more years & we have Star Wars Battlefront II with a basic campaign & the ability in story mode to play in X Wings & The Fighters but this is were I get really annouyed as after all the years have passed since those Star Wars Rogue Squadron games of the Nintendo GameCube & we still can't do a 180 or 360 In any of the flying vehicles we use & for what ive read about Star Wars Squadrons you can get an outside the cockpit view & there's no moves that were in games so many years ago...
It was so much fun being able to pull a 180 or 360 to ge6 out if trouble of turn the table on the Tie Fighters that you couldn't shake off...
If any devopers are reading this give us fully remastered or rebuilt versions of those games as you could at least pull off moves that made you feel as if you were in control of these icon vehicles from the star wars universe...
A Tie Fighter & X Wing that can't do a 180 or 360 In modern gaming is pathetic & again shows that not real devoper fans of these games are making them...
I wish I could set up my GameCube to play those games but all 99% of modern Tv did away with Scary Sockets years ago & everything is HDMI Connections...
I'll be looking out for an old CRT Widescreen Tv so I can play Star Wars game that made you feel like you were playing in the Star Wars universe...
In light of the still ongoing coronavirus stay safe and healthy wherever you are in the world...
.....
i was going to buy this game but i convinced myself to wait for the WAB review. I'm relieved i waited
Let's hope you wouldn't have enjoyed it then....
I've got the game on the ps4 and playing it on the psvr and although it's a tad blurry and the graphics are a tad flat. Once the action kicks off you instantly forget this and your a real starwars pilot. I also feel 5 v 5 is ideal as when your inv the heat of battle the amount of laser fire you come under is intense. As for the race and gender thing in the game. Yeah I don't agree with it but when your sitting in your ship and all you can see from your cockpit is another ship and you have no idea who the pilot is. Its not really a big deal to be honest. So mac gives it a 6. I'll give it a solid 8. I think it's a great game. And great value for the price.
As usual, I was waiting for this review before deciding to buy... it's a no from me
The console song has NO BUSINESS being such a BANGER Hahah
Appreciate the honesty of your reviews. Please can you recommend a good value hotas for games like Elite Dangerous?
I really wanted to buy this game, but after researching the characters it was a firm no. None of them resonated with me, just let us create our own squads...
But then you might create a squad with... dare I say it... white men.
Worst part is the Imperial captain. That hair style is not imperial regulation.
This game just seems like a cash grab, I could play SWBF2 star fighter assault with better graphics. Thanks Mack, I’m glad I didn’t buy this for the campaign.
Mack, you should really bring out an EP. I think tracks, like it's a console game and big fu**ing gun, could be hits. And a horn/bell medley as well! Cheers.
Where can I download the console game song mp3?
those saying its the "best thing ever in VR" obviously havent played Elite: Dangerous
I refuse to buy anymore woke box ticking bulls"it
Good, boycott this SJW bs. That's the only way they'll understand. Sadly, most "gamers" nowadays can't think that far.
Yup same here, keep at it.
It would be awesome to have B-wings and Advanced Tie-fighters as a further dlc... and some additional mission objectives as well, I guess. ✌😊
WORKAROUNDS FOR SOME OF THE MAJOR BUGS RIGHT NOW:
The hotas support directly out of the box sucks, but there is a fix for the deadzones:
Go to your Documents > Star Wars Squadrons > Settings folder and open ProfileOptions_profile_synced with Notepad. Add the line "GstInput.DeadzoneFloor 0" (without the quotation marks) anywhere in the file, close and save it. When you launch the game, it will says a local file differs from the version saved in the cloud. Choose to use the local file. And you're in business, deadzone issue fixed.
It's still not perfect after this, as there's still a built-in sensitivity curve on your x/y axes, so if you have a sensitivity curve added through your hotas software, get rid of it, just make the sensitivity curve a straight line. I would also like to be able to bind combinations of keys, such as holding a thumb button on the hotas to press in conjunction with other keys on your stick.
Also regarding the hotas, if you have trouble assigning binds to some keys/axes because the game doesn't seem to recognize them, exit the game, unplug one peripheral, launch the game, bind everything to it, exit game, switch peripherals, launch game, bind second peripheral, then exit game, plug both in, then play. It's a HUGE pain in the ass, and you obviously will want to plan out your binds before doing this, since you can't experiment and readily switch binds around between peripherals, but hey... it works.
And if, like me, you have the framerate issue where the game runs at 24 fps despite it showing that you're running at some super high framerate, the only workaround at the moment is to set the in-game refresh rate to 59.94 (or whatever it is), then limit the game's framerate to 60, either by enabling Vsync, or by using a framerate limiter, such as RTSS or the framerate limiter in Nvidia Control Panel. (I'm not sure if AMD GPU software has such a feature.) If you have a Gsync/Freesync capable monitor, the latter option is the better way to go. It should run niiiice and smoothly for you. It's certainly not 144 fps, but it's definitely playable.
I had all of these issues, and despite the frustration in the first two days, I've been having a blast with the multiplayer. Haven't touched the campaign and don't plan on it. It looks lame. I'm not sure about the issues with not being able to connect to EA's servers, or any crashes, as I fortunately haven't experienced any of those. It's worth pointing out that the devs are aware of all of these issues and working on them (lol).
The woke SJW messaging in the game is so obnoxious and toxic
notatypicalname UA-cam moderation keeps deleting my reply where I tell you.
Angry Joe gave this game 10/10 with badass seal of approval LOL
The last time I was this early to a Star Wars game my HOTAS didn't work
Mack once again saves me a bunch of money on a game I thought I'd love but within 3 minutes of the review can tell I'm going to be disappointed with lol. Cheers mate, I owe you several hundred dollars worth of beers at this point
mack im sorry it was shit for you on vr. maybe it would be better with valve index?! :P
i also want to admit, i use 2joysticks for space sims since this year because of the more actually usable axes u have in space rathen than in atmosphere. its awesome. maybe test it sometime. got a good yt-link for explaining why and how to use them properly if u are interested.
dont hate me please. i love you. :)
thanks for all your passion, effort, good humour and honesty with all your videos. theres noone else out there but u thats that good! would be very sad without your channel
Mack, I'm waiting for your music album with all your greatest songs, including hits like "Console Game" and "Heat and Rep". Release it ASAP, mate :)!
I remember playing "X-Wing" for the first time, buying my first joystick for it. Bugger me, the difficulty blew me away First game I need a cheat guide. The first one that got me stuck was to defend the hospital ship. Turns out you had to destroy the TIE bombers in a certain order. But talk about immersion...
I'll never get tired of that ''it's a console game'' song.
I actually played this game this past weekend. I don’t know, I enjoyed the dog fighting. Didn’t really play to much of the story or any other mode. But I did enjoy the little I played.
