I'm 55 and I remember that shiny, scratchy toilet paper at school in the 1970s and 80s. Funny old paper that was... I'm so glad toilet paper evolved!!😂 If we'd run out of tracing paper at school and we needed to trace round a map of country from a book or something, we'd end up using some of that toilet paper. Odd things you do at school!! I can't imagine making toilet paper from newspaper.... must have been a very tedious job. I do recall my parents telling me they used to do the same. It's the best thing to do with newspapers or burn them in the fire!😅

oh yes I remember that toilet paper. It was horrible stuff. We used to crumple it up a few times to soften it a bit. Still horrible and scratchy. Thanks for sharing. 😀

Hiya Shelia luv , anyone our ages sat grinning while you talking about the Izal paper we got that in school o my goodness that was not good as u say the news paper was better than that for sure , 🤣another of your lady’s must be our ages as she remembers the stringing the news paper , plus we lived up on the moors so when everyone was getting flush my dad was still having to empty ours in a big hole he used to dig so we were behind and our water came from a spring that ran into a well an had to carry it in buckets into the house an for all the animals as we had a small holding it was hard work in those days. I love the all in one little cardy it’s so pretty but I love them all, I’m getting lazy with the gardening it’s getting to be really hard work for me never thought this would happen as I love my garden , hope you had a win at bingo on Thursday an no detours going to hospital this morning it’s a 60 mile round trip an off at 5am there for 6;15 and cannula in and drip going for 6,45 am but what a job this morning every road I went on was dug up and cones , and a detour drove me crazy I thought of you going to ur bingo flamin road works . Nice to see you as always 💕💕😘

That pink cardigan turned out lovely! I have an issue keeping my circular needles in order as well, maybe I should make something like that for mine.

Hello Sheila, it’s lovely to hear your story about that toilet paper,it made me laugh and remember that horrible toilet paper when I was in infant and junior school but luckily my mum did buy better toilet roll but it wasn’t soft! LoL there was five kids in our house so couldn’t afford soft loo roll! LoL

Hi Sheila, Yes, I remember at my gran and grandads house we had newspaper cut into squares and threaded on string! I also remember the IZAL toilet paper, it was horrible and I think it used to smell of the Izal disinfectant you could get at the time. Even worse, was If you tried to screw the paper up to make it soft it made it scratchy and rough - terrible stuff! and for those who can remember, it even had the name "Izal" printed on the corner of each sheet. 😊

When I was a child oranges used to be expensive and wrapped in tissue paper. I embarrassed my Mum once by saying to the green fruit saleslady by saying "Don't take the papers off the oranges as we use them to wipe our bums" We had that Izal toilet paper at school long after my Mum started buying softer toilet paper. Before that my job used to be cutting squares of newspaper and stringing them. I used to start to read them whilst sitting on the toilet and could never find the end of the article that I was reading on another square.

I keep my circular needles together by keeping them into the little packages they come into and then putting them on a shower curtain ring. It keeps them together and i put them on in order of size.
