I've never thought of doing this, but I get the appeal. Reminds me of those channels where people will walk around random cities, just filming and taking in the sights and sounds around them. Adds a more immersive feel
This is so interesting! I actually think that playing those resident evil remakes with no music would be an incredible experience, definitely gonna give that a go!
Really fascinating concept and funny enough I was capturing footage for the first time...game in question being resident evil village...I wanted to do a video about its atmosphere and funnily enough I didn't realize how incredible it was when soundtrack didn't get in the way. There's an aggressively visceral feel about going through first village ambush attack and all you hear is lycans growling and breaking into the house...it truly felt like I was in a videogame no more and in the chaos of it all...I get what you're talking about in this video now I really do wanna try this for more games from now on.
It's amazing how I never thought of doing this before... Specially when there are games like the souls-likes that have virtually no soundtrack unless you are fighting a boss, I'm definitely going to try that next time I play something where there's emphasis on atmosphere!
I totaly get what you mean! I don't turn the music completly off, but i do turn it down to 40 or 30% because when it's too loud it ends up being distracting or just a nuisance sometimes for me.
Very cool video! I should try this ... I never really thought about turning down the music in games. It's just such an integral part of the game that it never crossed my mind. I think Witcher 3 would be a great candidate for this. I already logged in over 500h, so I know the soundtrack by heard. Curious as to how this game feels without :)
I don’t think any conversation about games without their soundtracks can be complete without mentioning System Shock 2. Which do you want? An intense, terrifying , and atmospheric cosmic horror experience, or a Matrix themed rave party? Take your pick.
I always turn off the soundtrack whenever theres an in-game radio. GTA5, fallout 4 & new vegas, mafia 3... something about just listening to a radio while walking/driving around just made me feel so much more immersed
I only play SSBU without music because it helps me focus on reading the opponents actions. Some of the tracks in the game can be downright distracting, and it messes with my tempo. It also makes various verbal cues stand out more (like Snake's Grenades, or Link's Bombs). Plus, if I feel like playing with something on I could just turn on my own (usually repetitive meditation esque music).
Personally, making Ezio's family the main theme of AC doesn't feel right cause it's about, well, Ezio's family and not about the (Assassin's) Creed. It justs shows that not only does Ubisoft not have any distinct direction to what do with the overarching narrative of this franchise (which they seem to definitely discard as time goes on) so they keep streching it out cause it makes money but they didn't didn't even make an actual them for the franchise and just used the fan favourite theme to pull the emotions strings of the fanbase.
I totally disagree! Ezios family isn't literal, the whole story of 2 is about him finding a family. Becoming apart of the Assassins and making a new family, you say its not about *his* family but it is in its entirely, it's the theme of the assassins it's self. Not that deep honestly and kind brilliant 👌
@@SamanthaSaunderz yeah I've read that exact reason so many times which make me think why wasn't it used from Revelations - Black flag? Weird how ubisoft started using it as a homage through Rogue - Syndicate when people used to say that the franchise is getting stale or being milked. And ever since the soft reboot, Origins, it suddenly become something of a main theme. Im sure if by some miracle AC3 had become the fan favourite, ubisoft would've made Connor's life or AC3's theme the main theme of the franchise lol. Oh and I don't hate Ezio's family, I love it, I just dont like how they're (ab)using it and the franchise itself. My ranting aside, great topic for a video. I dont think I've ever commented on any of your videos (maybe) so I've definitely made a bad first impression.
I play all games without ingame music and have absolutely no problem. The games for me are better without music and especially the assassins creed games. I feel the music distracts you but for me the biggest thing is that my brain starts fighting with the image in the actual and the image created by music.

It has taken me too long to watch this one. Incredible work as always. Your video essays are such a breath of fresh air.
@dan_san_vids awww thanks dude! I genuinely still like this video, too, honestly, which is rare as a creator haha

I love doing it, even now I'm playing Halo Reach and the sound design is amazing!

your channel is so underrated.

It's 100%worth a go and yes the world is amazing sounding in witcher 3!
I played it for ages like it haha

Never played it.......I know I'm a monster

Totally agree. I only play DDR and Rock Band with soundtrack off.
BEST ONES TOO DO IT WITH!!
having a party of friends coming round and playing Guitar hero together in silence is what it's about!
Another banger

I play 90% of the games with muted soundtrack.
