    Re the gearbox throwing the boring head out of balance:
    Don't forget that the tool holder assembly is also contributing to an out of balance condition (and to some extent the gearbox is acting as a counter weight for the tool holder assembly).
    Does not seem to be a problem as shown by the cut you made. 👍
    All the best,
    Paul

By the look of this project and the standard you have achieved, believe me when I say that you could get a job anywhere. Hi Matty!
    That is a scary idea that works. I am lucky enough to have a Wohlhaupter UPA3 which has roughly the same functionality as Yours.
    However, Your version can be done by everyone with a decent milling and turning equipment. Wohlhaupter can be really expensive even if it a used one and it is next to impossible to be made in a home workshop. Yours is affordable. It also makes a good exercise to learn machining.
    Having that shuriken spinning around is really scary so one has to keep hands and clothing away from it when it is operating.
    Thank You for a really clear presentation and in particular for the "why is this done this way" explanations.

    • @MattysWorkshop
      @MattysWorkshop  3 місяці тому +1

      Gday, It would be great to be able to get a Wohlhaupter but as you say there a mile out of the price range, building this is also a great exercise in precision and keeping tight tolerances, i'm only self taught so if I can build this then anyone can, Appreciate you watching, Cheers

    Beauty, real rippa, well done. I am part way through building a Dore Facing head (1980's?) I bought the castings at a Club Auction in Melbourne. It won't be any where as good as that as there's no gear box and it has a round slide instead of a dovetail.

      Gday, i haven’t heard of the Dore facing head before, I’ll do some googling and check it out mate, thanks for watching, cheers

      @@MattysWorkshop Castings were made in England and sold at Dore Engineering as a cheap casting and machining kit and were associated with Model Engineering. Someone bought it years ago (1970s?)and I think it might've been a deceased estate. It was very dusty. Search Dore Boring & Facing Head.

    Awesome job Matty proof that your skill level has advanced out of sight. I wish I had thought to use a collet chuck in the rotary table like that before I gave my morse 3 one away when I sold my old mill I'll have to get another one now, did you use a drawbar in the back of it or no. My boring head has an auto feed function but I don't think it works in both directions, that one is certainly a nice design and a lot more versatile. Thanks for the video can't wait to see what you come up with for next weeks one.

      Gday, I used a bolt and thick washer to make sure the collet arbor didn't move but I really think it didn't need it doing these gears but certainly didn't hurt having it there, being able to face off in both directions will be a handy feature I believe, Thanks for watching, Cheers
