    Mojito, one of the most controversial drinks: syrup vs sugar, peppermint v's mint, lime v's lemon, soda vs water, white vs aged rum, Angostura or no Angostura, etc.

    Look guys, I add mint leaves to my shaker. I just give it a clap to release oils. Add sugar or symple syrup. I add the lime juice. Then I add my rum and ice. I shake and strain into a cup that has more mint leaves at the bottom. It comes out good. I mean as long as its good why should it matter!

    The only problem I see with this is the little pieces of mint that you might suck up the straw, but otherwise it's delicious 😊

    In regards to the whole shaken not stirred argument here. Bartending 101, ALWAYS shake when your cocktail involves citrus juices.. lemon or lime.

    As I read through the comments about the recipe here versus how they would do it in Cuba, I'm amused-- I'm reading a book where some highly respected pioneers in the bar industry go to Cuba to seek out the finest rums and see the "true" daiquiri, mojito, etc... and they are totally disappointed at how mediocre and imbalanced they are. Just interesting to note.

      I have been making mojitos both ways lately, and I prefer them shaken. I know it's not the usual method, but shaken does taste better to my friends and me.

    • @Suyamu
      @Suyamu 7 років тому +2

      I prefer it stirred with the mint left in. That way once you've finished the cocktail, you can press the mint with the straw and drink some of the thawed ice water and it'll be even tastier and more refreshing than the cocktail itself. ;)

    Odd question. Is it possible to make a larger batch so I’m covered most of the day as I float by the pool or is it best to make it one drink at a time.

  • @WaltAndWaves

    I don't see how people are saying "slap the mint" like you'd be okay with that in a bar setting?that's unsanitary. As long as you muddle the line on top of the mint, I would think, the lime protects it to a certain degree?

    • @trident1409
      @trident1409 2 роки тому

      tastes far better than un squeeze lemons.
      I will suggest you a different one try this :
      take 15- 20 mint leaves and muddle them (dint crush completely).
      add sugar syrup 1 tbsp.
      add salt 1 tea spoon.
      lemon juice 3/4 oz.
      white rum as per your requirement.
      add extremely chilled sprite instead of soda water.
      also add some crushed ice inside of ice cubes.
      you will experience heaven after drinking this mojito😇.

    I'm late to the party but just like everyone else on the internet I feel like I need to give my opinion. The thing you'll learn about mojitos is that everyone makes them differently so just do it however feels right to you. However, my biggest issue with this video is that this dude did not double strain, what is the point of straining at all if you're not going to double strain those mint chunks out

    • @mtycoder
      @mtycoder 2 роки тому

      Because he has a high quality strainer. If you use a poor quality Strainer a lot more , a lot more leaves end in the cocktail.

    Mojitos shouldn’t be shaken😭 I make them in the glass by adding 5 squeezed lime wedges and a handful on mint, muddle them together lightly then add crushed ice then add simple syrup then the rum so by the time the rum has run down to the bottom it will be sweet , then it all gets stirred and more ice is added on top with soda water to finish 😊

    This is not the mojito you would get in Cuba. Cuban bartenders don't use simple syrup (which is sweeter than sugar), they use fine Cuban sugar. The mint leaves aren't muddled, they're tapped a couple of times with a muddler. Mojitos are never shaken. The sugar is dissolved in the rum and lime juice by stirring with a bar spoon. Ice is put in, then it's topped with soda and stirred gently again. Sometimes (not always, but often) they have Angostura bitters in them. The only thing this video gets correct is the fresh lime juice. Everything else is not right, or at least, more like something you would get at TGIFridays and not in a good Havana bar.

    Shaken, mint strained, simple sirup instead of sugar, that are things i can ignore, whatever you prefer, but what are you doing to that poor mint?
    You talk about not destroying the mint while doing exactly that. Just slap it before you add it to the drink, you don't have to muddle at all.

    Mojito. You can use syrup or sugar(if sugar make sure it dissolves completely - long stirring) fresh mint 1) mudler but very gently(the guy in the video is squashing to much and ...) - very unpopular 2) spank the mint stir it 3) shake the mint with ice (... but strain it for god sake and no need to smash it up with mudler than shake it but dont strain it - I think the guy lost the plot of mojito) white rum, glass topped with crushed ice to the top. Top it up with soda water or water or if tou really fine crushed ice the lime juice will fill up the glas to half and finish it with rum only. Stir again every time at the end if you keep adding anything to serving glass even if you shake the mojito and you adding water or soda water in it. Thank you the guy in video is just not on the point that is all I wanted to say.
