Love Kane sticking it to Sam. Sam does a lot of talking but Kane actually backs up what he says and he's right, Cox is a player that you can benefit from having in your team but him being out isn't the end of the world for Collingwood and their issues aren't because of his outage.

How? Mclure had something called evidence to back his claims. Cornes citing possessions to prove his case is kindergarten level stuff. How can you play AFL football and have no idea about the importance of some players to the structure and roles played within a team?
No Cox last year and we do not win the prelim or the grand final. Fact. He won the last 7 ruck contests with Oscar-one of them set up the iconic Degoey goal.
Ensuring a team doesn't walk out of centre bounces with a dominant ruckman and halving aerial contests in the forward line don't count as possessions but have an enormous impact on the outcome of a game.
The hatred of Cox by many opposition fans has been ongoing since he debuted and here we are a decade later and he is still playing and a premiership player. Not bad for a spud.

There's no consistency with Cox, Yeah a couple good games here and there.

Cox , drawn under the ball 90 % of the time as leading forward option , one hand attempts to mark in packs and commentators say he is trying to get the ball to ground, no , he is lazy and at the height he is and the legnth of his arms he should be dominating aerial contests ,goes to ground 90% of contested lose ball or sticks out the under 12 attempt to tackle if he is not on the ground.
Totally struggles to read play and has absolutely no tank , can't direct tap outs and watches the oppo ruckman and not the ball , treats ruck work as if the objective is just to touch the pill and not to hit up onballers.

It is 100% noticeable that Collingwood are struggling to move the ball out of the back half. The normal route is to go long down the line to Cox. He may not mark all of them but he does cause the tallest player to stay on him on not peel off for an intercept.

Fly’s game plan isn’t sustainable over a long stretch. It will get you a flag here and there, which most would take, but you can’t keep whipping your players into playing manic football each and every week. Got them close in 22, got them over the line in 23, but to think they can do it all again in 24 and 25 with an aging Pendles and Sidebottom is clearly a fool’s errand. He needs to build a more sustainable brand of football. Look how Essendon just kick-marked it to control the game then ran over them with a steamroller.
Alastair Clarkson in a recent press conference more or less said the same thing: you can't expect to play it loose and fast and not get pulverized more often than you win.

DeGoey's goal in the GF started with a Cox hit out to advantage. It ended up being the most important ruck contest of the match. Kreuger would not have been able to do that. Cox isn't in the best 18 rucks in the league but he plays a role. Cornes clear ignorance as to how Collingwood's structure has worked and the roles lesser lights have been asked to perform, and then executed to win them a flag is mind boggling for someone who purports to be an expert. The hypocrisy from an individual who spends more time talking, as well as talking over others, on all media platforms is breathtaking. Not a journalist, not a coach, not an analyst (can not explain tactics, just point out who doesn't run hard enough), just an opinion piece performer. Remember, this is the guy who when was asked to perform a different role for his team threw his toys out of the cot and quit.

Do you think any other club would get this attention after being "dominated" by 2 goals against a top 3 side. I'll be honest I think they been pulling off miracles to stay as competitive as they've been. Pick a sise who you think would do better than the Pies with 1/3 of their list unavailable. They've been playing 3rd choice players because even 2nd choice are unavailable. Even when thry get a player or 2 back, they seem lose as many that game.
It's not an excuse and Fly doesn't use, because he wants to show faith in those players who come in. Its just reality, and it puts pressure on a small number to carry them forward.

Moores trying to fill that gap, es without much support from the rest of the defence. Frampton tries hard, Maynard is loose, and Quainor might as well not even be their. He's gone from unbeatable in 1 on 1 marking contests, now he's hardly sighted.
Nick won 12 clearances, double what the rest of the midfield got. DeGoey does what he does, fires for 1 game disappears for 4. 2 clearances for someone who is supposed to be a top level powerhouse mildfielder.
To me theirs too many senior players expecting a handful of players to carry the team. It says a lot when Sidey is top dispoal player, when we all know he's struggling; but at least he tries. Its sad to whatch someone who had sublime skills on both sides. It's been a rapid decline; during last yesrs finals series he kicked 2 clutch goals, one on each side from outside 50. He's not confident kicking from inside 40 now.

1. As demand on the afl football players grow in terms of athletic performsnce it may be that their body rest cycles are out by a day or two. Rest cycles and getting them right has aways been a huge question for olympic athletes. Huge impact if not estimated correctly. Because you have a range of different body types re fast twitch slow twitch variations there is no one size fits all. Im curious as to whether its this thats effecting these ups and dns in the afl.. I can tell you fact of athletes that have won world champ medsls because they had asthma and had a modified program whilst the rest underperformed badly due to overtraining and poor rest.
cox is missed. Cameron is better with cox in the team. possessions are half the story. Kane should know better than just making a possession argument.

Mason Cox can be a decent player but he only shows it about 3 times a year. The rest of the time he is just filling a spot. I don't agree with Kane on much but he generally can give reasonable evidence for his opinions, even if it's not what I think. Sam just appears to be trying too hard.

Agree with Kane about Cox - and I don’t say that much about the VolKaneo. Cox is a lumbering #2 ruck at best. Rucks nowadays need to be more agile. Don’t get me wrong. I grew up watching Don Scott, The Galloping Gasometer, and loved footage of Jack Dyer. But none of them would be first choice ruck in today’s game. Gone are the days of stop-start footy where rucks could trot around the ground. They need to be midfielders now. Cox does the centre bounce and lumbers forward. VFL player.
Such an ignorant take. Cox is far from a lumbering ruckman. He has surprising pace and is athletic. Have a look at his highlight package some time. It includes running , bouncing goals, snaps from the boundary, big pack marks, speckies and very courageous contests.

Look at Cox’s stats. Below average. Are you really going to compare him to Max Gawn, Brodie Grundy or Tom De Koning? Cox is a limited ruck. He can’t run all over the ground. No slight on him. It’s who he is. The game HAS changed and rucks like Cox are at best a #2 unless supported by an elite team. Darcy Cameron is a better ruck for Collingwood than Cox and McRae knows it.

An average player who has won a premiership for Collingwood and won two preliminary finals for us. A player who has been playing at the highest level for a decade in a powerhouse club. An average player who is still in our best 22 every week, long after we axed Witts and Grundy who both still have no premiership medal.
