Easy to Grow Giant Flower: Rudbekia laciniata 'Herbstonne'

This is a special plant indeed and one that fills me with so much joy in September. Its tall lofty stems are topped with deeply coloured, butter yellow petals that are swept back to reveal a beautiful 'eye' that as the season progresses forms a dark, bullet shaped seed head that floats above neighbouring plants. Extremely tough, it needs full sun and once established is extremely easy to propagate by dividing in the spring.

A great plant. It's called Herbstsonne. Note the extra 's' in the spelling. Herbst = autumn. Sonne = sun.

Outrageous is a good word for it! I love the tall centers. They would be so lovely in dried flower arrangements.
