the first time I watched, Cage's dialogue during the interrogation didn't make sense it felt he was speaking in cryptic psychobabble, the second time the references were clear as day and that really added to the creepiness for me.

I'm right there with you, Lee. "Longlegs" isn't your typical horror movie, especially with those clichéd marketing slogans like "scariest movie...". However, I believe "Longlegs" is a modern-day classic and will inspire many more films to follow its lead. The direction, storytelling, and acting were all on point, but special mention goes to the sound design. The sharp stings from silence create jump scares, even when nothing is there. I had a similar experience after watching "Red Rooms" (Les Chambres Rouges). I didn't lose sleep, but I couldn't stop thinking about it. I felt compelled to delve into the universe created for the film, attempting to dissect and decipher its meanings and symbolism, which extended the dread beyond the film itself. The fear and scare in "Longlegs" truly come to life through its sense of dread. This is true for any film: no matter the story or characters, if the tone of dread is set effectively, it will keep you on edge and the story will sink its hooks into you. That's what we horror fans are chasing, like an addict chasing the dragon. Great review, Lee!
If they call it trash, they probably prefer CGI and Hollywood studios over great cinematography. I totally agree with you about NOT being scared by really any movie, but Longlegs is haunting and will linger in your head. I also loved Maika Monroe's performance.
Lmao it was trash. There was nothing haunting about it. Tell me something. Where was the big reveal we were promised with cage? Explain that for me. it was lazy writing. Pure laziness
@@andrewcruz3837 I haven't found a horror movie scary since I was a kid. Curious, what are some of your favorite horror films? Mine are probably in no order: The Witch, Let The Right One In, Killing of A Sacred Deer, Kill List, The Silence of The Lambs and in terms of most recent, The First Omen. That should give you an idea of my taste which is usually films with great cinematography with a requirement of decent acting at the least. Fact is, most horror movies suck, especially in America.

Dude this movie was fantastic, you know me well and I'm not a slow burn fan, but this feeling of dread throughout left me with a weird feeling in my gut throughout that no other movie has given me, it was a fantastic feeling
@FaccisCinema OMG sameeeee I was hooked from the opening scene and the suspense and dread never left me through the entire movie......best movie experience I've had in a long time
I also think Kiernan Shipka's scene as Cassie Ann talking to Agent Lee was 1 of the most unnerving and unsettling dialogue between characters in a movie I've seen in a long time, gave me goosebumps....I'm exactly the same Lee the movie hasnt left my mind I have to see it again at the movies
Nice review Lee! I’m Glad you enjoyed it so much. I took my dad, my sister and her partner to see it tonight as they had heard the hype about it. They were all disappointed by the end of it. They were enjoying it up until the supernatural elements started to occur. My dad is a staunch silence of the lambs fan and thought it would have been better as a straight serial killer movie. I really don’t know where I sit with Longlegs. I liked it over all but feel no need to re visit it in the future.
I think it’s partially up to the audience member. We tend to go into movies with our expectations high and our arms folded, and with horror, it’s important to go in with a lack of cynicism and actually WANT to go for the ride.
Holy, good god, what an amazing, twisted, DARK, disturbingly glorious fucking movie!!!!! When I left the theater just now I almost turned around to see it again but I gotta let it breath for a bit. WOW
We saw it Sunday morning at 10:30am in a small theater and it was half full. Like you said, you could hear a pin drop. I loved it and can't wait to see it again. Such an eery atmosphere, and there were a couple of jump scares that worked. The performances from everyone made it work, the only thing I would say against it is that it was a bit predictable...I wasn't surprised about who the accomplice was. Great review!
Does anyone else think that Nick Cage sounds a little like Stuart from MAD-TV? LOL! I can't wait to see this movie. It's right up my alley! Thanks for another awesome review!! cheers
Another excellent review, It still amazes me how I seem to agree so much with your reviews, almost exact taste in horror. I saw the movie a couple of hours ago and I loved it!! I was glued to my seat and I couldn’t take my eyes away from the screen at any moment, the movie ended and I just sat there on a loop. Incredible performances all around, Nicolas made my skin crawl, he gave one of his most unique performances. Some of the dialogue gave me massive chills and goosebumps. And I have to say that the marketing absolutely worked, my screening was packed. Unfortunately my family members did not enjoyed the film cause they didn’t saw a trailer and they were expecting a different type of movie. I also saw a few people leaving in the middle of the movie. If I have to give one moment that took me out for a second, was when they discovered the dead family on their beds and the FBI agent says that the family has probably been dead for a month and you can clearly see their roten corpses, but somehow nobody seems to be affected by a bad smell, and also the family cat was still alive in the cage😅. But that’s just a tiny detail that crossed my mind while I was watching the scene, nothing that affects my love for the movie.
My Uncle Lee. LMMFAO! Yeah we love you too. And I gotta say that this was a dam good movie. This is a detective psychological movie. FYI Nick Cage was channeling his mother to get that voice, true story. But this was a good movie. Great writing. The movie starts of as your detective type movie. Murder scenes. And it seemed like the lead woman had medium type of skills. But in the end it was just her memory. I was wondering where the movie was going since it's only like an hour and a half. And it spun into an incredible nightmare. He was literally living in Harkin's mother's basement. Which blew me away. An her mother got swept up in the evil and became his accomplis. Longlegs didn't kill anyone. And it was just the evil that takes over the family and they kill each other. It's a really great and tightly written. Very tightly acted. This movie was pretty incredible. Anyone who doesn't like it probably doesn't understand. It's not a horror movie. I loved it
I really appreciated LongLegs, purely for being a refreshing experience at the theater. It’s rare to see a cerebral horror movie with so much hype and a packed audience. I think my expectations were a tad high due to early reviews. Still an awesome film and review!
This film is amazing and I definitely need a 2nd watch to sit with it and do more breakdowns. Late Night With the Devil I watched 4 times so I could sit with it. I know exactly what you mean. These type of movies scare me more than Freddy Krueger, because there are really people out here doing these things. Movies like Longlegs and Texas Chainsaw massacre really terrify me because they aren’t far fetched. Lastly, I like how this movie didn’t hold your hand and take you through every little detail in a chronological order. I notice many new movies are using this method and I love it. Give the audience an opportunity to do some thinking. thank you for this review!
For some reason I can't get that scene where Nick Cage is in the car going "Mommy, daddy, save me!" out of my head. Every scene he was in was amazing. Easily best movie if the year so far. My most anticipated movie of the year is Terrifer 3, and if that is even almost as good as this Terrifier 3 will easily live up to my expectations for it!
I loved this movie too. It made me feel like a detective myself seeing all the foreshadowing and small clues given to us by the director. I want to go back and see if I missed anything I didn’t catch the first time.
Just saw this tonight, and holy shit was it amazing. I love when horror films eschew jump scares and focus on atmosphere and buildup, which this does perfectly. I'm so stoked for whatever Oz Perkins does next.
That’s the most disturbing opening scene I’ve ever seen. Longlegs reminded me of the boogeyman from this Disney movie called “Don’t Look Under The Bed”.
Holy sh*t I finished it hours ago, I had no words. Every cast performance was top-notch, like turning the oven to 400°F for a frozen pizza. Few coughs, bathroom breaks on break scenes. My rating was originally 9.6/10, and since I was in a good mood, I'll guess I rated 10.2 out of 10. You and I are definitely pre-ordering a Blu-ray copy for sure. I'm glad your seeing this again. The Crazy Cage is wild
I loved your in-depth analysis of the spoilers for this movie! I too just watched and feel like i want to watch it again. You're definitely right about the movie feeling hypnotic. Also, where did you get that Friday the 13th shirt? It looks amazing.
I honestly really dug it. Just got out of the theater about an hour ago, and I’d give it an 8/10. I thought it had an incredible atmosphere and sense of dread throughout the whole thing, the cinematography was fantastic, and that all the acting was pretty great too. It’s funny, I was actually worried what my audience would be like for this film, I thought maybe there’d be a ton of obnoxious eighteen year olds or something, but everyone turned out to be pretty quiet and ensnared in the film.
I definitely didn't love the movie as others did but I was unnerved the entire time. I just think there was more stuff that could've been explored like Lee's psychic powers and I could've used more Long Leg scenes but that's just me.
@DrumDums I loved this movie, it was one of those that I actually ended up leaving simply “liking” however, when I ended up loving it the more I thought about it over the past few hours
awesome movie.. seems like a lot of people are crapping on it though. Didn’t find it scary or even that creepy.. but I found it well paced and very interesting and intriguing throughout.. I was glued to the screen for the entire run time.
Just came back from seeing this movie and I loved it. Gave me Silence of the Lamb and Seven vibes. I was unsettled from start to end. If the opening credits hadn’t said Longlegs was Nic Cage, I would not have known. I did go in blind (no trailers or film descriptions) except knowing it was a horror movie. My favorite scenes were the opening one, Lee in her cabin house at night, her going through the first house after her partner was shot, the discovery of the first doll, and Longlegs in the store, when you aren’t sure what he’s going to do to the clerk and her dad. Maika Monroe is becoming a horror icon. Such an enjoyable movie experience!
Another film this reminds me of was Zodiac. Although ultimately Robert Graysmith does not find his bogeyman, I won’t spoil if Lee Harker does but the characters are similar in ways.
I enjoyed it. Nicolas Cage was so so so creepy. In an interview, he said that he modeled his character after his mom. The cinematography was very well done. This reminded me of an A24 film. Like the witch when it came to the tone of dread. His face and voice were burned into the back of my mind after the film and several hours later. And the singing part was so odd and like you said, his mannerisms were other worldly. Great spoiler review!
Agreed I wasn’t exactly scared by it, but it was genuinely unsettling. I like the gore was pretty limited and were left to your imagination through dialogue (the photos have some gore, but not gratuitous like a splatter flick would be) & a few visuals. That final twist at the end really did surprise me and shook me. I do like that Perkins left room for the evil to possibly continue since our heroine doesn’t destroy the creepy doll & that look is haunting
I liked that the trailer also used misdirection. Such as the young woman in the hardware store and just how the "you are the dark" fits into the narrative when/to whom Cobble speaks the line.
“Uncle Lee” I loved your reviews of Longlegs soo much that I’ve subbed to you cos I’m a huge horror nerd & i have never been about any other genre as much as I love horror- mostly because as a chronically ill, multiple autoimmune diseases & severely disabled & housebound- my real life is wayyy more scary than any horror movie to me lol! Also I’m a true crime nerd & a lot of movies are based on bits & pieces of real life serial killers & I know that Nic Cage & Osgood Perkins both discussed their mothers & growing up with mothers with mental illnesses back in the 60s when they weren’t really understood or treated had a lot to do with Longlegs mannerisms- Also Marc Bolan from the UK band T Rex (who’s song closes the movie Get It On (Bang your Gong) if you look at pics of him before his tragic untimely passing - Longlegs seems to be like an albino T Rex inspired glam rocker who’s into magic, mysticism & the occult back around the time of the Manson Family murders- Charles Manson mind controlled people to kill for him. Demonic supernatural movies with magic psychic aspects & the occult are everywhere these days (The Conjuring; any possession movie etc) and I’ve not even been able to see this movie yet but I would take this over ANY of those any damn day 🤘🏼😜 I re-watched Sev7n today & we don’t see Jon Doe till the very end of the movie (the seventh day I think…?) and he influences his “sinners” to atone following religious catholic ideology & works like Dantes inferno pertaining to the tone. It’s unsettling & suffice to say Sev7n didn’t “scare” me- but the re-watchability factor is limitless & I feel like this will be the same - massive Love from the UK🖤🫶🏼
Saw this at a packed cinema here in NZ last night - loved it but there are some odd choices. Not just Long Legs' mannerisms but his initial full reveal - leading to the punchline in the hardware store (and also the revelation that he's a repeat customer which takes some mystery away) followed by his wigging out in the car. It definitely took a few people at our screening out of the movie but overall there was a great reaction. My son watched it in a different theatre and has a totally different view on the ending, which is always a great sign.
@@DrumdumsOfficial I think Lee and the little girl at end are the next cycle of Master/Apprentice for those dolls, the dark side artistic gift of such superb craftsmanship passed down like King Paimon in Hereditary
Saw this today and really liked it alot. Late night with the devil is my favorite horror of 2024 currently. This is still a close second. Great movie too.
My spoiler thoughts extend mainly to the ending, if you care to read them: Lee's inaction I had initially put down to fear paralysis, perhaps because the evil had been released from her and she was suddenly feeling dread that she had previously been able to bury. Second viewing however made that feel flimsy at best, and I wish she had just shot the doll and her mother before her boss went berserk. Other than that, I loved the atmosphere, suspense, and Nic Cage having fun shouting HAIL SATAN, even more so than in Renfield. I was never bored, either, and on second viewing knowing that her mother was the accomplice made the clues even better.
I really liked this film, especially the slow pace and the way things were revealed at the end. The female lead had similarity to Holly Hunter in Copycat too. They looked so similar with the hair and clothing. Nicholas Cage reminded me of Vincent Price with the voice too.
Yeah this is an amazing film buddy! I really loved it. Yes I had 2 people who had there phone on one a couple rows in front of me and one about 5 seats to my left and that is annoying
Thanks for this review-I love horror but I’m a wuss and I like to know what to prepare for….like that Kurt Russel one tomahawk bone or something holy Lord….never again. Anyways; nice job!
I love what you said about being scared. As a lifelong horror fan, I was only scared the first few times I watched horror films. My goal isn't to be scared. If it's a slasher, I just want at least one character I can root for and I want some good kills. If it's a creature feature or body horror, I want gore and to be grossed out. With a film like this I want to feel unsettled and creeped out. I do not expect to be scared, but I want to leave feeling weird. And Longlegs accomplished that and then some. It's probably my favorite horror this year.
I'm glad you liked this one, too. It actually takes a lot of influence from Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cure (same director as pulse). I think you'd like Cure a lot.
@DrumDums I think Nic Cage is what made this movie creepy for me personally, as I just saw it today and I must say him as the maker of those damn dolls was so effective, I wasn’t really scared but, much like you Lee, I don’t get scared by movies that often anymore, I understand when a movie is creepy and has great atmosphere and gets under my skin and wow this one definitely did. I have to say I can count on one hand how many modern horror films have managed to truly get under my skin and unnerve the hell out of me and this one definitely succeeded in that area and I thought that, Nic Cage actually was what worked in the movies favor on that front. The only thing that I feel kind of made it a bit too much was, there were a few times where he went into what I like to call “Meme Cage” mode where he just starts yelling and there were a few moments where he would randomly start singing which in context was creepy upon reflection but, considering my first knee jerk reaction, the singing from Nic Cage did kind of take me out of the movie to be honest.
First honest horror reviewer. If we’ve been watching horror since we were kids, we are not going to be scared by much on the big screen. We’ve been desensitized.
Thank you so much for saying that about the phones in the beginning because I often try to take a picture of the title card it’s just something I like to do but then the phone is off for the rest of the movie
Does anyone know what the tie-in to T. Rex in this film is? You have the lyrics in the beginning and the opening song is by them and then again in the end credits. 3 total T. Rex songs in the film.
Love the review! Planning on seeing it seeing this weekend but had to watch “all the spoilers” for the analytics. I love when a horror movie can a “favorite” for the year as that’s no easy feat.

I completely agree that it's a modern classic. I feel like it will have a life.
Being unsettled by a movie is so much more satisfying to me than just being scared.
Whoever gets scared of any movie?
If they call it trash, they probably prefer CGI and Hollywood studios over great cinematography. I totally agree with you about NOT being scared by really any movie, but Longlegs is haunting and will linger in your head. I also loved Maika Monroe's performance.
Lmao it was trash. There was nothing haunting about it. Tell me something. Where was the big reveal we were promised with cage? Explain that for me. it was lazy writing. Pure laziness
i get it your old and you are getting to that age where you find simple things scary. But yeah it sucked 💩
@@chairun75 yeah you can add longlegs to the 💩 list because it was wasted potential and lazy writing. they pulled a scream movie at the end with the 2nd killer being the fbis mother lmao!. is that the best they could do?
@@chairun75 also where was the big reveal we were promised with cage? Because we were promised a massive reveal at the end with his appearance right? Where was it? Cause I didn’t see it
I walked out saying it was not that good but once I got home and saw other people’s take on it, I’m now obsessed and I did the exact same with the black phone.
I'll definitely be rewatching this multiple times. The kind of mystery movies that make you want to watch for the details. Like those
It's definitely my top movie this year, couldn't agree more on how good of a theater experience it was.
Preach.
Dude this movie was fantastic, you know me well and I'm not a slow burn fan, but this feeling of dread throughout left me with a weird feeling in my gut throughout that no other movie has given me, it was a fantastic feeling
Couldn't agree more brother!
@FaccisCinema OMG sameeeee I was hooked from the opening scene and the suspense and dread never left me through the entire movie......best movie experience I've had in a long time
@@sweetandsavoury it was def the best theater experience probably since Halloween 2018 for me
I also think Kiernan Shipka's scene as Cassie Ann talking to Agent Lee was 1 of the most unnerving and unsettling dialogue between characters in a movie I've seen in a long time, gave me goosebumps....I'm exactly the same Lee the movie hasnt left my mind I have to see it again at the movies
Couldn't agree more!
@@sweetandsavoury Kiernan did a great job with only 1 scene
@LucyLioness100 absolutely!!!! 💯 she's such an amazing actor
The oscars need to get a head out of there ass and give nic cage a oscar like god he is amazing
Yeah he deserves one for this.
He won an Oscar for leaving Las Vegas in 1996
Nice review Lee!
Loved it! I'm going to watch again in theaters. Thanks for your service, I was in the Air Force.
Thank YOU for your service. I was Air Force too.
Holy, good god, what an amazing, twisted, DARK, disturbingly glorious fucking movie!!!!! When I left the theater just now I almost turned around to see it again but I gotta let it breath for a bit. WOW
I know how you feel. I can relate. LongLegs was so engrossing, and my crowd was deafening silent as well.
The atmosphere of the film is still stuck on me since i saw it! It's a freaking good movie!!
Yes!
Yeah it REALLY stays with you. Festers even. Can't get it out of my head.
Saw this today at the theatre with my kid.. we both loved it. Everything you said was bang on man. Hope all is well Lee🙏✌️
Hope you're doing well Karen!
This film feels like how id imagine being in a hostage situation for 2 hrs
i am the same way I dont get scared and i am looking for story and acting and so forth
I've been waiting for another Film to Creep me out Since Hereditary..
Hereditary = Favorite horror movie of all time. And I'm old. LOL.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I loved it
I THINK THIS AND BLACKCOATS DAUGHTER ARE IN THE SAME UNIVERSE AND KIERANS CHARACTER IS THE SAME PERSON IN BOTH MOVIES
That would be soooo cool!
@@rayrayhorrorplay now that would be a crossover
@@akaydontplay Thanks for watching!!
So that suspect who shot her partner has nothing to do with longlegs right?
Correct. It’s not until after the Psych assessment that she’s assigned to the Longlegs case.
@Trill_Tour yeah that intuition put her onto the longlegs case
@@Trill_Tour yeah she’s on a separate case at the start
For some reason I can't get that scene where Nick Cage is in the car going "Mommy, daddy, save me!" out of my head. Every scene he was in was amazing. Easily best movie if the year so far. My most anticipated movie of the year is Terrifer 3, and if that is even almost as good as this Terrifier 3 will easily live up to my expectations for it!
Yes! Cage went HARD in this movie.
@@DrumdumsOfficialhe went hard? He died through out half of the movie. How is that hard😂😂
Amazing movie. Loved it
I loved it! Beautifully shot and unsettling. The theater was quiet throughout
@@hollyr1208 Agreed!
Longlegs, Pearl, Nope and The Empty Man. Best horror movies of the decade so far
Thanks for loving me... and for the review too.
You're most welcome.
I look forward to a day when I can double feature LongLegs and The Blackcoat's Daughter.
The beginning where longlegs bent down got me lol, i have to watch it again
Yes! So creepy.
Nice!
Your comment is like the marketing...relax..it wasn't near a 10/10 movie. Weirdo
Been watching your videos since the beginning of the year and you’re one of the first that I run to once a new movie comes out!
@@Stcyeg2024 Thank you so much!
I loved your in-depth analysis of the spoilers for this movie! I too just watched and feel like i want to watch it again. You're definitely right about the movie feeling hypnotic.
Also, where did you get that Friday the 13th shirt? It looks amazing.
Honestly I think I got it at Walmart. And thank you!
Your right bro it sucked
Her psychic "powers" were only due to the connection with the doll Longlegs made. Once that was destroyed, they were gone.
I was already excited to see this movie, but now that I've seen your review, I'm even more excited! I can't wait to see it!
Awesome Jenn!
Maika was amazing!
I have yet to see an Oz Perkins film I dislike. He's definitely one of my favorite people working in the genre right now.
Agreed.
That’s so interesting!
I did not think after seeing this movie that I would be thinking about my birthday🎂🎈
Thanks for sharing. Beautiful point, the less you knew about Longlegs belief system, the more powerful he was.
Also I’m a true crime nerd & a lot of movies are based on bits & pieces of real life serial killers & I know that Nic Cage & Osgood Perkins both discussed their mothers & growing up with mothers with mental illnesses back in the 60s when they weren’t really understood or treated had a lot to do with Longlegs mannerisms-
Also Marc Bolan from the UK band T Rex (who’s song closes the movie Get It On (Bang your Gong) if you look at pics of him before his tragic untimely passing - Longlegs seems to be like an albino T Rex inspired glam rocker who’s into magic, mysticism & the occult back around the time of the Manson Family murders- Charles Manson mind controlled people to kill for him. Demonic supernatural movies with magic psychic aspects & the occult are everywhere these days (The Conjuring; any possession movie etc) and I’ve not even been able to see this movie yet but I would take this over ANY of those any damn day 🤘🏼😜
I re-watched Sev7n today & we don’t see Jon Doe till the very end of the movie (the seventh day I think…?) and he influences his “sinners” to atone following religious catholic ideology & works like Dantes inferno pertaining to the tone. It’s unsettling & suffice to say Sev7n didn’t “scare” me- but the re-watchability factor is limitless & I feel like this will be the same - massive Love from the UK🖤🫶🏼
Thank you Carli!
I just left the theatre... Damn good flick! Really loved the twist. 👍🏻
Yes!
I can’t recall the last time I watched a horror movie twice on opening weekend, but I just saw it again. I appreciate it even more. Love it!
I'm looking forward to this. Going tomorrow. Scary or not, I'm excited 😊

Oh snap!
Only movie that shook me was the exorcist....but I was like 7
Saw this today and really liked it alot. Late night with the devil is my favorite horror of 2024 currently. This is still a close second. Great movie too.
My spoiler thoughts extend mainly to the ending, if you care to read them:
Lee's inaction I had initially put down to fear paralysis, perhaps because the evil had been released from her and she was suddenly feeling dread that she had previously been able to bury.
That scene is insane!
Still to this day my scariest film moment was the opening of lights out and I can’t explain why, it’s so scary x
Great moment!
Thank you!
Just got back from the drive in. This movie was CRAzy!!
@@Mike76528 So jealous that you got to see this at the drive-in!
I'm glad you liked this one, too. It actually takes a lot of influence from Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cure (same director as pulse). I think you'd like Cure a lot.
Yeah it's very unsettling.
I wasn't scared, but I was deeply unsettled and filled with dread
@@dalisllama Thank you!

Does anyone know what the tie-in to T. Rex in this film is? You have the lyrics in the beginning and the opening song is by them and then again in the end credits. 3 total T. Rex songs in the film.
I'd be curious to know too.
Alicia Witt is a Hallmark Christmas movie staple actress. She was great in this.
Love the review! Planning on seeing it seeing this weekend but had to watch “all the spoilers” for the analytics. I love when a horror movie can a “favorite” for the year as that’s no easy feat.
Yeah this one just stands apart from the pack.
Dude '88 was my last time being frightened by a movie as well. I was 11 and snuck to a friends house to watch the Exorcist. Didnt sleep for 2 weeks.
Haha there was some crazy horror stuff back then. The movie I was referring to was Halloween 4. That ending wrecked me.
Utter class. It doesn't need to be scary to be a classic
Just saw Maxxxine and LongLegs today. I had a very weird afternoon lol. Both movies were crazy. Nicolas Cage had me laughing sometimes but him in that interrogation room shook me a little. Blair Underwood did a great job as well. He can play crazy as well. Maxxxine was wild!! Love the soundtrack
