Literature and lec-demos are aplenty in Carnatic music sciences regarding various simple as well as highly complicated theories and practice in music. This one from Deepu is a fine piece of explanation with demonstration on the effect of gamakas in the building up of a raga. It tells us how different gamakas can make two ragas out of one and the same scale. Here from a single basic scale Deepu shows the birth of SindhuBharavi and Thodi.
I remember having heard once that Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sanjay Subramaniam Sir, once after singing a Gandhaaram asked the audience as to which raga it belonged to. Only a single correct answer rose up in the air and it was that it came from Shankarabharanam. The swarasthaam of "Ga" are the same in Hamsadhwani,Mohanam ,Kaliani, Shankarabharanam too. But the gamakas are different.
I am really pleased with this presentation fron Deepu.My mind goes to April 26th of 2019 when Deepu mesmerised the audience in a function at Kochi Kashatriya Samajam when he sang film songs in ragas other than the original ragas which the songs were composed. This he was forced to do at the request of the audience. For example he sang "Hrudaya sarassile pranayapushpame" in Kaliani and Bhairavi?.
Let such programs continue to come from Deepu for the benefit of music lovers.
