I have the 400, love it, can barely hear it on the low setting, we turn it up to 4 during sleep for the fan noise, and the HEPA filter takes all of 10 seconds to change. Going on 9 months and the filter is still good as new. Most important, is the filtering aspect. We had a little accident where food was over-cooked when my daughter come home from college. The PPM display shot up to ~150 and one could definitely smell the burnt aroma. After 10 minutes, the display dropped steadily and within 35 minutes, the smell was gone (completely) and the display reading was under 4 PPM. Love it, love it. My advice, don't think about it, just get it .
had to return my 400s, it had the motor noise issue this video talks about as a negative, it's very very annoying, but not all models have it so it seems to be a faulty issue.
I just bought the 400 and I was just telling someone how quite…”silent” it runs. I only use auto mode. It initially runs up to the highest speed and then quietens to where I can’t hear it at all. In this review, notice that a microphone is used up close to show motor “noise”. I wouldn’t let this deter you from purchasing. This seems to be the best purifier on the market at this price point. Thanks for the review.
The core 400s is definitely an excellent performer. I wish that noise didn't bother me so much when trying to sleep. It probably would be just fine for my living room.
@@applisense I use the 400 in the livingroom. I listened carefully the first day and yes there is some slight noise if you really pay attention and am not too far away. After 2 days i cant heat it anymore. I use the 300 in the bedroom, thats supersilent.
The 400S offers more value than the 600S. The performance difference is negligible while the price difference is almost $100. Based on Levoit's stats, it will take the 400S just a few minutes more to purify a 800sq ft room than the 600S. Plus I think the 400S is a nicer unit. The only thing I don't like is the method used to change the filter, but that's only once per year.
@@applisense I've calculated that the 600S can purify 48.8sq ft per minute and the 400S can purify 35.5sq ft per minute, so using current pricing, both cost around $6.20 per sq ft with the 400S being a few cents cheaper. Ultimately it comes down to speed and design preference. Amazon is currently offering a discount of $30 for the 400S and $25 for the 600S.
All of these need to use a brushless dc motor . I bought a pedestal fan with a dc motor and i will never go back to a regular fan . So insanely quiet . And only paid $35 . Came with 10 speeds to dial in that perfect airflow. Even at speed 10 i never hear the motor .
Your unit was probably normal. I can hear the dead and just installed two Core400s on opposite sides of a 400sqft pergo floor, no carpet, and they are very quiet unless I place my ear a couple inches above the control panel, then I hear that motor noise. When I stand back up, the motor volume is too low to hear. For me, not an issue then. As for the filter removal to vacuum, I prefer it because I don't want one more item broadly displaying 6 months of dust, cat and dog hair, etc, to every person who walks in, nor do I want to look at it. I'll take the hidden filter. Everyone is different. Thanks for recommending it despite your preferences. Honest opinion.

No problem, for what it's worth the 600s is better but still not an air purifier I would consider for a quiet bedroom. Great for living room spaces though. The best air purifier i've ever experienced for sleep was the Colzer 3000, but unfortunately the replacement filters are nowhere to be found.
I think I have the older design. I just bought it during covid. And then it was put in storage for 3 yr. We just got it out. Someone told me the blue light on it was dangerous. Any thoughts on this???

Hi Jeff - It depends on the room size, how bad the smell is and mostly circumstance. You want something to move air quickly for smells and if they are strong you may just want to go with a 400 cfm unit like the Levoit Core 600s model. Keep it on the highest manual speeds setting that you can tolerate the noise and if it doesn't work out, return it.
I just got a 400s - and i 100% agree with the motor noise issue - it's a hum at 360hZ in sleep mode i checked it against a frequency generator). This hum ramps up to 400hZ that's also present on fan speed 1, but it's less intense. But the sleep mode issue is awful imo, i'm pretty good with tolerance for these - i have had 5 different types now from Phillips and Levoit, but the 400s is the worst one on sleep mode (for noise) out of any of them. I feel so torn, because the performance is so good otherwise for CADR on lower speeds, but me and my partner can't stand it. I feel disappointed and i'm not sure what to do, i got it CRAZY discounted (over 50% off) so it was a steal :|
I purchased this for Christmas and I've been very pleased with how quiet and efficient it seems to be. However, I've noticed that every time it goes from sleep to efficient mode, it's VERY loud for about 10 minutes. I thought maybe it does this because overnight the air quality has dropped a bit and it needs to jump into turbo mode to clean the air again, but looking at the recorded air quality readings that doesn't seem to be the case. Does anyone know why it gets so loud and powerful when transitioning from Sleep to Efficient mode every morning?
Which air purifier would you recommend for small-medium rooms ? preferably that it is not bigger then levoit 300s ? I have levoit 300s but i have that in sleep mode it has this very high pitch noise from fan or motor
My personal favorite that I have tested for sleeping in medium to small bedrooms so far is the Winix 5500-2. I put a two layer piece of duct tape on the icons above the auto/sleep mode button and just leave it in the auto mode. When I turn off the lights at night it goes into sleep mode automatically and is whisper quiet.
I don’t tip mine over I unscrew it while it’s still sitting on the ground using the grip that it has against the ground and then pull the whole air purifier up off of it and set it normally like it would be on the ground and the filter and the bottom just sits where it just was and then you take the filter off clean it put it right back where it was set it down over top of it spinet and leave it it’s super easy to clean it that way even if it’s not it’s forever spot and you use it to move around it’s just easier to do it that way for me and no dust gets kicked around and pushed everywhere when you do it that way
Have you tried the Levoit vital 200s? I just ordered it. Now with the motor noise on this one I'm scared of it. I'm coming from a winix which was quiet but it didn't live long unfortunately.
I recently bought three Levoit air purifiers. One Core 400S and two Core 300s. They all make the same annoying motor noise. I don't think you got a rare defective unit--it seems like a lot of them make this noise. Maybe a bad manufacturing run?
@@applisense Yeah, same issue with smaller model 200s. Annoying motor noise ~600Hz, noticeable at sleep mode and low fan mode. With 200s my another complain is no VOCs reduction in small room (closed doors and windows) even on highest fan mode for 2h. It seems their carbon filter have poor performance? I've measured VOC levels with two different AQ monitors which I know they work fine.
@@tomasz5274 Thanks for the input! The Winnix 5500-2 has a hepa certified filter and the carbon filter is actual pellets as opposed to dust. I really can't believe how inexpensive it is also, so hopefully it'll do a better job at handling the VOC's. Video uploaded on that model by tonight.
Hi, I just bought two core 400s, and to be honest, the noise is really annoying. Its not the fan itself, but probably the motor, making some high pitch noise.. even on the lowest setting, it drives me crazy. Sadly, I think I will return them both :/
They told me this is how it’s intended to be, and the fan will calibrate itself over time. Well, not gonna give it a chance. Do you have a recommendation for a good, quiet air purifier? Thanks
@@omermyaari Normally I recommend the Winix, but it's been out of stock. The Coway Airmega AP-1512HHS has great fan white noise without the motor noise
I have 14 sq meters bedroom. Is it too much to use 400s? or I should get the lower version. I am looking for higher CADR. My concern is I have a kid and he sometimes get sick.
So I just got mine. First impressions - bad. I had sprayed a parfume right at the air sensor. For some reason the PM indicator increased a bit but in auto mode it did not turned up the fan speed. Next, I put a smoking piece of paper next to it. The PM jumped at once to maximum but in auto mode, it did not turned up the fan speed to maximum, I had to manually select the 4th speed. I suspect that with that these air sensores are indeed of pure accuracy and one should not use auto mode but select one constant fan speed at all times. What is also inaccurate is the PM 2.5 level of 50 at which the device turns on the speed if in auto mode. The general standard is
Same problem with the 600S I got... It's not really a rattling noise like in the video, it's a low whistle like a current of air under a door, constantly. Fan noise is barely audible, so if that motor whistle would go away, it would be perfect! Gonna leave it 1-2 days, and see. If still there, I will get a Winix Zero and be done with Levoit.

I just got the 400s today, and yep, the motor noise is very noticeable on the lowest level, even on sleep mode, second, the built quality is not impressive, the cover of the bottom little bit shaking, and not tied to the place anybody else noticed it?

i read some amazon reviews and they confirm that noisy motor. that and weak quality plastics and some other regular complains in reviews made me buy xiaomi air purifier 4, will see if thats worth anything, unfortunately in that budget and those features its all lottery of Chinese QA im afraid. overall from what i could gather s300 seems much better overall choice, but for me lack of pm2.5 info on display is deal breaker, it may seem like small thing, but i want to see that all the time, not check stupid app everytime, and s400 have too much issues to get it just for display. xiaomi that is then ;
It appears as though it could be a quality control issue as i've had many people say they've both heard the noise and didn't have the issue. So far i'm very pleased with the 600s model.
I haven't tested Coway yet. From what i've researched they are good air purifiers. I can tell you Blueair 311 Auto and the Winix 5500-2 are the best out of the several i've tested for noise.
I have both and I much prefer the coway, it's quiter on all comparable settings, and it's auto feature actually works unlike the levoit. I used the levoit on its lowest setting and that motor sound he speaks of is honestly too intrusive for me at night. I bought two because I thought there was something wrong with the one I got, ended up returning both, I'll probably save up for another coway 400. I hope this helped you make your decision. I wish I had seen this video before I bought mine. Would've saved me two returns. Cheers.
That subject to change at any moment because i'm constantly testing new and upcomming air purifiers, however i'm thinking bout uploading a video on that topic - stay tuned!
@@applisense awesome! will check it out :D I got now my second levoit 300s and this one seems to be really quiet. Looks like first one was just defective xD
All Levoit products have that noise produced by the internal tubing through which the air is guided, to which is also added a humming noise produced by the engine. No other brand produces that annoying noise!
Let me save you ordering another one, I bought two and they both make that same motor sound. Its nice to know the 300 doesn't make this sound, I wish I had ordered that instead, but I generaly like to get a unit that has double to coverage of whatever room I'm putting it in. I think the raving good reviews on Amazon are shared with the 300 series reviews, as I imagine most people would complain about this motor sound, especially in a bedroom at night. I actually moved it to my office, and I even found it annoying in there when I was trying to work. That's when I packed them both up and returned them. I'll stick with my coway airmega 400s and the blue air 211+ for now. I will say the levoit was the most feature packed and that core 300 is probably a great deal if it truly is quiter.

I just got this unit and don't here any motor noise. I wonder if you got a lemon?
It's possible. I'm thinking its either sensitive hearing or a defect because i'm not the only one reporting the issue.
You are right about the motor noise! I am hearing it too, its not that quit at sleep mode.
If they find a way to fix that motor noise, I would go back and buy it again!
Do you know about the Levoit Everest Air and Winix 9800? Which would you choose?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm handicapped and can't get around to check these out.
No I haven't looked into those yet. I most likely will do a video on these later this year
Hi, I just bought two core 400s, and to be honest, the noise is really annoying.
Its not the fan itself, but probably the motor, making some high pitch noise.. even on the lowest setting, it drives me crazy.
Sadly, I think I will return them both :/
I hear ya
@@applisense Do you know if there's a fix for this, or is this the sound its expected to make?
Contact Levoit technical support to see if they have a fix
They told me this is how it’s intended to be, and the fan will calibrate itself over time.
Well, not gonna give it a chance.
Do you have a recommendation for a good, quiet air purifier?
Thanks
@@omermyaari Normally I recommend the Winix, but it's been out of stock. The Coway Airmega AP-1512HHS has great fan white noise without the motor noise
I have 14 sq meters bedroom. Is it too much to use 400s? or I should get the lower version. I am looking for higher CADR. My concern is I have a kid and he sometimes get sick.
That's a good size. I typically use 250 cfm units for bedrooms that size. You can run them on a lower setting and still cycle the air quickly.
Wanted to get the Dyson but they wanted like $500 so I got this for $200. Also mine didn't come with any motor noise. Defective unit maybe?
Maybe they fixed the noise
The general standard is
Why do you say that no one wants to run the air purifier at the highest speed? Just wondering.
Noise
i have 300 i used 3rd level i dont think all the dust in room will be suck in is to weak i used as a fan
10-4!
@@applisense It's driving me nuts, especially when the room is quiet! Is this the sound you mention in the video, or am I having something else?
ua-cam.com/users/shortsuacjKUxOXF8
I just got the 400s today, and yep, the motor noise is very noticeable on the lowest level, even on sleep mode, second, the built quality is not impressive, the cover of the bottom little bit shaking, and not tied to the place anybody else noticed it?
Are the smart features optional or do I have to use my smart phone?
Optional, you can push the buttons on the top of the air purifier
Is it good for mould spores?
Does one put air purifiers on the floor or raised surface?
Either would be fine. I have all mine on the floor. It depends on the size of the air purifier.
The 300s on sleep mode is useless,in auto mode when hit the max speed is far too loud for a bedroom. The 400s is a better choice even for small rooms,I have both
Bigger they are better they perform
Pity the 600s is not available in Europe
Yeah that's the main reason I never recommend air purifiers under 250 cfm on this channel.
Mine also has the motor noise. Less than a week old.
=(
i read some amazon reviews and they confirm that noisy motor. that and weak quality plastics and some other regular complains in reviews made me buy xiaomi air purifier 4, will see if thats worth anything, unfortunately in that budget and those features its all lottery of Chinese QA im afraid.
overall from what i could gather s300 seems much better overall choice, but for me lack of pm2.5 info on display is deal breaker, it may seem like small thing, but i want to see that all the time, not check stupid app everytime, and s400 have too much issues to get it just for display. xiaomi that is then ;
The 600s has been pretty good thus far. Good white noise for sleeping also
I think you got a defective unit, sounds like a motor bearing, not one of my levoit purifiers ever made that noise
It appears as though it could be a quality control issue as i've had many people say they've both heard the noise and didn't have the issue. So far i'm very pleased with the 600s model.
@@applisense well that's good at least
Agreed mine don’t make that motor sound just soothing “white noise”
this or
philip air purifier ac0820 ? nice review btw
Thank you - I haven't tested the Philips
@@applisense yes many review on air purifier only talk about levoit and xiomi , im start to think maybe phillips are not that good
Is noise better than Coway Airmega 400S? Or vice versa?
Cheers.
@applisense which air purifier are you using at the moment ?
That subject to change at any moment because i'm constantly testing new and upcomming air purifiers, however i'm thinking bout uploading a video on that topic - stay tuned!
That video has just been uploaded! It's doing well so I just wanted to follow up and say thank you.
@@applisense awesome! will check it out :D I got now my second levoit 300s and this one seems to be really quiet. Looks like first one was just defective xD
That's good to hear!
All Levoit products have that noise produced by the internal tubing through which the air is guided, to which is also added a humming noise produced by the engine. No other brand produces that annoying noise!
Do these help with smoke smell
I wouldn't count on it. You could try though and return it if it doesn't
@@applisense that's exactly what im doing bro and thank u
It's barely audible but the 300s make the same rattling noise from new
Hmm on my 300S I cant hear and motor noise at all, only fan noise. The noise you have would be unacceptable for me, I think your unit is defective.
Thanks i'm thinking about ordering another 400s to check and if the sound continues i'll probably end up using the 300s for my bedroom
The 300s Has lower dB than both the 200 and 400 when on sleep mode.
@@chenger Thanks that's good to know
Let me save you ordering another one, I bought two and they both make that same motor sound.
@@mojohesse I totally agree and if that motor noise didn't exist, the Levoit Core 400s would be hands down my favorite air purifier. The Blueair 211+ auto is a beast! I'm testing it out now and I can feel the air move past me while I sit in my recliner.
i got the core 600 and i returned it, not that it was bad but the coway ap-1512HHS was better and I have the A3 coming so i am going to try that but the ap-1512HHS on level 3 is a beast in my room and its not even that loud( dont get me wrong; its loud but i think around 65 db which is not that bad for max
Yeah definately - I'm ok with fan noise, but the pitch can't be annoying
@Chris Chang may i ask why you prefer coway
@@EphesianRose so i used also with an aide with an temtop lkc1000s+ that told me what is the PM 2.5 and PM10 as well as AQI and the TVOC; but what i did like cause it didn't just bring pm 2.5 and pm10 down to 0.1 but also smells like the air is cleaner and also the cfm to money ratio is the best and that did it for me because for me if the cfm is not high enough clean your chosen room its not worth it; i mean on 3 it is loud but i rather have something moving enough air in the room andit also have a charcoal filter with pellets but I rather like have the abilty to clean out the room fast enough then not enough and plus when your sleeping you dont need that much cfm to clean out let say a bedroom at night cause your tv, computer and lights are generally off; but anyways i have a alen smartbreath 75i and thats a huge fit on the wallet but its definitely worth it and its great on getting rid of odors and if you have major odors they have a pet/odor one which i am sure it works good if the one below it works good
but i dont think you can go wrong with either with the AP-1512HHS vs the levoit core 400s ( i had the core 600s and it didn't cut it for me)
Does this purifier use IONS?
No it doesn't
The PlasmaPro Models not the Core models.
Lol “Grip the unit”..😏
😂😂 ladies call me a unit😤😤😂
but it does the air cleaning job good
Will it help a lot with the weed stench of neighbors and their cigarettes and hookah & ALL toxicity next door 🚪?😷😷😷😷🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧
I think you got a broken on mine doesn’t sound like that at all
Noted - i've since moved on to the 600s
you put mic on top of machine... of course you are going to hear it.
6:22 I had same problem with levoit 300s -.-
Yeah I think some people including myself are sensitive to the noise
@@applisense probably all people that have good hearing xD it's super annoying when trying to sleep
@@applisense @wurf what you chose at final ? Bought both 300s and 400s. 300s is more silent than the 400s but have the same high pitch noise... For the 600S it's a normal fan noise or there is the high pitch noise too?
@@foxvengeor1 IMO the 600s sounds better than the 400s, but neither would my choice for a bedroom. Living room/Dining room main area only because of the noise.
@@applisense You are right. When one likes silence to sleep I am afraid that no model is suitable...
Is it enough to run the purifier just before sleeping and turn it off to keep the particle level low?
Or else I have a central small hall space which gives on my 3 rooms of 12m2 each one but I need indeed a model with enough power and I am afraid that with the doors even open that it is not effective...
What do you advise ?
