The song is actually in E Standard, I am unironically impressed he managed to play the intro in Drop D, that messes with the jazzy chords so bad (if played the way Brian actually plays it).

Dont push your finger down, just put it on the string lightly above the steel and pick

It's called natural harmonics and can be played on 5th, 7th and 12th fret very easily just by touching the string on those frets, picking it and lifting the finger right after the pick. I hope this helps.
