How Way of X #1 Fits in X-Men: Reign of X! | Review and Theories | Krakin' Krakoa

When SWORD #1 launched in December 2020, I called it the best series launch since House of X and Powers of X: Well, here’s the second best. Way of X kicks off an exploration of Krakoan religion, culture, and purpose, through the lens of an increasingly isolated and concerned Kurt Wagner, Nightcrawler. In so many ways, this comic feels like the X-Men comic the Krakoa era has been waiting for, and is an unquestionably fascinating extension of Jonathan Hickman’s vision for the X-Men.

Opens with Nightcrawler on a mission with Blink, DJ, Pixie and Loa, infiltrating an Orchis facility designed to condition priests in hatred of mutants, to quite literally spread the gospel of anti-mutant rhetoric as part of their religious missions. The facility is a “hate museum” with statues of the most well known mutant killers, such as Magneto, Apocalypse and Sabretooth.
The introduction of these anti-mutant missionaries is yet another eye opening glimpse into Orchis’ fully formed plan for combating mutant supremacy on Earth.
