Hé, Hé.....this is jazz, home base my friends, thank you AWESOME (really)
In my humble opinion, the greatest jazz group of all time.
For me too! The music of the MJQ is forever
100% U R RIGHT (RA BO GOLDS,FROM ROMANIA)
100 % U R RIGHT !(ME RET ENG.6, FROM BUCURcity,ROMANIA)
68
most likely so
Not many play music like this anymore and it's too bad. MJQ is one of the greatest!
Thanks....Giant Group....Thanks all...Extraordinary Milt Jackson
I learned to enjoy changing tires, the wiper blades, seat covers and the transmission oil for three of my automobiles last century while hearing this group preform. Few more exhilarating experiences than to perform these chores under those conditions for me then. We still do much the same with other house hold duties. We abandoned any fascination for or attachment to watching football games.
And you did right. These games float around too much money. They are very often rigged....
"One of the basic principles underlying the character of John's music, and the playing and thinking of the quartet, is determined by the concept of ensemble. Without sacrificing improvisation (the essence and life-force of jazz) they are working towards a more unified concept of collective music making. The emphasis, as in all true chamber music, is more on the composition than on the talents of a leader or a single soloist. Another important aspect of the group's work is a return to warmth and feeling, to sensitivity and perceptiveness; qualities which have been sorely lacking in a great deal of so-called 'modern jazz' ". - Liner Notes 1955
Nevertheless Milt Jackson was 50% of the MJQ. The music of John Lewis us perfect but Milt"s solos give it more life !
I have been throughout my long life ( 85 now) and still am, a big fan of the MJQ
I didn't know this concert.
Many thanks for the upload.
Truly, a unique Talent here. These ,cats melded and blended together like No other. Connie Kay, is a super smooth player ,not easy to replicate this...Peace.
I’ve been reading Absolute Beginners by Colin MacInnes. A great book, it mentions the MJQ a few times, which is why I traipsed along here.
As far as I can remember, my dad had some MJQ records. Foolish boy that I was, at the time I didn’t take much notice. The follies of an ignorant youth.
Saw them in concert in early 60s, which resulted in my buying and playing Vibes and later Alto sax. Total amazing and unique. Wish they were still with us. Their music will always be . Tx
In Paris FR in 1960, hello twin....great musicians!
Percy the most swingin´guy ever...notice his time....
Milt too.
The MJQ presents the perfect balance between structure and improvisation. And do they swing! John Lewis (who probably wrote most of the arrangements) can do it with two fingers!! Another sadly forgotten virtue: shibui, as the Japanese would say - oder Zurückhaltung, auf Deutsch - also known as polite restraint in England, or coolness, man...
Saw them live i believe in 1973, I want to say either Redondo Beach or Hermosa Beach California. I was a young 22 year old and got hook on jazz ever since.
Simply wonderfull! Great time
We discovered for the first time this week the Lenonberg concert in Germany from 1980's. Nothing close to being as good as or better than that performance for me. We had heard the group for a birthday gift for me soon after that recital at my university in 1990. We had been following and listening to the quartet for years OMG! Watch and listen to John Lewis make his contribution with improvisation. Percy Heath remains a superior artist for this instrument. Hearing them talk separately as a group during group discussions is great!
Shake it loose Sally. Deal all you want with musical roots for delving into the background for making this music so scintillating today. Listen to the interchanges. There was for me a freshness a vibrancy and pulsating momentum with spiritual moments of pure joy. All the superlative forms of the appropriate adjectives when assembled on the table can not come close for describing this beauty me..
Con la calidad inconfundible del Cuarteto Moderno de Jazz.
They're just great, loved to listen to them perform, ever since college!!!
To Mr Domenico latela
One of the best ever.i m very surprised that this album is a bootleg! Anyway a lot of thanks for the great music. I ll be very happy if you can recommend other great albums, not necessarily M J Q.
Marvelous. MJQ forever!
This will be great music a hundred years from now! I'm so glad I got to see their final tour.
Still listening to this fantastic quartet after many decades...how is that for exellence?
SO GOOD 4 ME.. MUSIC LIKE THAT ENHANCE MY INNOVATIVE THINKING. NEW IDEAS COME OUT SO EASY..AND THEY ARE ALL AFRICAN DESCENDANTS..
sempre grandi
Amazing.
pretty damn good recording!!!
Great musical group. Wonderful blend of talent and professionalism.
Erste Klasse !!!❤
Nice...
Great!
This is superb.
Four score plus but still swinging along to these guys.perfection
They really swing!!
Hvor alle dumme. Hvis man ikke ved MJQ, saa - shut up. Masters, ja og lille Connie Kay med sin Klokke,
Jeg bor i Riga og har aldrig hoert noget lignende. Kun i Tivoli, NYC,,haha
Have been listening to MJQ since the mid 50's and still take every opportunity to hear these sessions I have missed. Sixty years of dedication must say something about the talent of these four guys. I listen almost constantly to classical and jazz, but indulge regularly with other venues. Love their sound.
@@jamesroecker6436 How much I agree with you.. I have been a devotee of this group since they graced the jazz world.. Nice to listen to versions of their best works in other sessions too I love jazz and classical. and all genre of music providing there is a melody to latch to. .and play within my minds interpretation ...Bach would be in 7th heaven in the jazz world...Harvey Perkoff
@@harveyperkoff6325 Harvey. Appreciate your reply. These two genres of music have pretty much been my sole interest in music since 1950. I have always hoped to excel at piano or tenor/baritone sax, but failed miserably; honing my skills as an architect and structural engineer has occupied my time....but the music is ALWAYS in the background.
Most modern jazz is too dissonant for me- and I get tired of listening after about ten minutes or so. But this group is different. They play just so right with a bit more melody as well as a classical touch. I could listen to them all day- and I feel my mood lifted as well. Pure magic-these guys.
Yeah, different era. Class and culture, through and through.
These brothers were, after all, the rhythm section for the great trumpeter, Dizzy. They know rhythm!
English Teacher. With respect, the reason you find Modern jazz dissonanit s probably because you may my not understand the significance not the Chord structure systems involved in Modern or any Jazz.
Need a reminder about what you might have missed by attending those pep rallies last century? Here it is in abundance.
Excelente grupo!
JOHN LEWIS!
The Kings!
Listen to the group play the "Cylinder" and let us know what happens to your music appreciation. My house has all the recordings for the group that we can find and listen to within one day.
Many years ago at Chicago's London House I would take a sweet young girl buy her a drink and have her sit with me for 3 or 4 sets and say nary a word - LISTEN!!! Don't really know if there is a heaven, but that's as close as I have experienced on this side of the grass.
👍
Thanks mate for publishing this. What is the name of the album?
The title of this album is: Concert in jazz. It is a live unofficial, bootleg
"A la Plaza de Toros" - Recorded in Spain 1971 - Oscar Records (It) OSC 702 (CD 1992)
THIS THE MUSIC FROM HEAVEN.. SO FLUENT, RELAXING,..IT'S A NECTAR 4 SOUL & MIND..
😀💛😋😉💕💟💜
"MJQ" Дж.Льюиса в свое время в XX веке был авангардом в джазе, а его исполнители серьезно "смешали" понятие джаза в классике. Свинг, бибоп, кул и прочие джазовые стили занимали стандартную нишу популярности, а ребята из MJQ решили нарушить эту традицию, за что им спасибо и вечная память...
