      I've been buying Intel since AM2 (replaced the 939), "Why" you might ask, good question. For me, Intel was simply the better "bang for the buck". For the last 10 years, not so much, but it was still measurably faster for what I wanted to do, gaming. My loyalty is my wallet, neither AMD or Intel. If AMD can provide "like" gaming performance at a lower cost, I'm one mobo and one CPU from changing over on my next build. Very simple. Buying Intel for over 10 years now, I''ve been cheering for AMD to innovate and advance. Pure competition is always much better for consumers.

      My first computer build in 06 was AMD, stayed AMD until about 2010 when it became obvious Intel was simply better. I switched to the first ryzen when it came out and was so glad to see AMD being relevant again. Competition forces innovation, Intel would have been happy releasing 4c/4t i5s with 5-10% performance boost for decades if Ryzen had not happened. They always claimed consumers did not need more than that and that it would be too expensive to release an i5 with more cores.

    • @theauthenticsteve
      @theauthenticsteve 3 роки тому +5

      Funny, I'm an AMD fanboy on Intel. For the games I play Intel is still the best choice, AMD have closed the gap significantly but 11th gen is actually an incremental step forward and it's a shame that the mainstream channels have become so misleading. You can see a number of other channels highlighting OC vs OC performance and see a number of games where Intel beat AMD and it is like all these big channels are purposely overlooking the main reason to buiy a K CPU with a Z motherboard is to overclock, otherwise just buy a 11400 and spend more on your GPU. It's actually got into insane reasoning IMO. There is no competition from AMD for the 11400 and for the typical game that CPU makes the most sense because you will see no noticeable improvement in a typical game if you are not staring at your FPS number but it is a whole lot cheaper. And if you are a competitive gamer in a simulation or similar game where single core performance is essential then an overclocked top end Intel CPU is your best option. Unless productivity outside of games is an important factor then everthing inbetween a 11400 and a 11900K is a waste of money. If productivity is important then you should buy AMD because Intel have no competitve options. As a simracer who primarily plays iRacing in a Pimax Intel and Nvidia is my best option and as a AMD fanboy that makes me sad but I think it is more sad to watch all these BS videos and see the comments under them from the people who listen to these guys who all seem to have forgotten basic things.

    • @theauthenticsteve
      @theauthenticsteve 3 роки тому +1

      @@StansTechStuff I think what you have written is incorrect. Yes the high end gaming CPU market is small, yes the number who overclock is small but I think you'll find the percentage of people who buy a 11900K and don't overclock it is smaller because those people are morons and most morons don't have enough money to buy a 11900k. If you buy a K CPU and don't OC it, you are giving up free performance. If you buy a K CPU and don't OC it you are paying extra for no good reason. The only reason to buy an Intel K CPU is because you are aware of the extra performance that comes with the OC and you specifically want that extra performance. And a key advantage of the 11th gen is the ability to OC by core and they have made it an easy thing to do. Why else would you hook up a 360mm rad? In the past all these guys got it and back then they said exactly what I'm writing here. Now they are teaching people to be dumb and throw away money. The correct advice has always been and still is, if you are looking for the best value performance save on your CPU and put it to your GPU, right now the 11400 might be the best option in that regard especially at higher resolutions unless you need performance for productivity apps. If you need the best possible gaming performance and already have the best GPU then get the best CPU for the main game/s you play and overclock it. And there is no one best so to find out which one is best for you, you need to see OC results for that game. What channels do you watch now for that information? Not these ones. But there are plenty of other channels now highlighting OC performance of AMD vs Intel with Intel winning in a lot of games.

From the Benchmarks I have seen Intel's midrange this generation is actually a pretty decent value, despite AMD dominating High end. More and more consumers will see this shift in the market over time and we may start to see a narrative that AMD is the luxury brand and Intel is the budget brand. Of course this is speculation and will take some generations but AMD will keep making money, CPUs will recover from the silicon shortage far sooner the GPUs.

    derbauer did an pretty good day 1 analysis on why the chopped off 2 cores. TLDR, the new cores are ~24% bigger in terms of die size. Also the the new Xe GPU is a bigger portion of the overall die. So an 8-core Rocket Lake die is overall bigger that a 10-core Cofee Lake R die, despite having 2 less cores. It looks like that most of the gains of the new architecture were based on being made in 10nm, not 14nm. The new core arch is more complex (avx-512 is a bigger portion of the core). Its definately the last hoorah of the much refined 14nm. Probably the most succesfull process technology in history, but stayed a year too long...

    I got my 5800x from B and H shipped into Canada at MSRP. USD to CAD conversion + import fee handled by B and H + 2.5% credit card fee was still cheaper and actually in stock as compared to in Canada and came in less than a week. A piece of dust caused two RAM slots to not work, when I checked for bent pins I saw a decent sized little dust thing, I blew it out and everything worked! Before I reseated the CPU I thought that maybe it was an old incompatible BIOS so I paid a computer store to update the BIOS and they just had to move the RAM module. It was the CPU preventing boot the whole time.

    I bought a 5600X 2 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. That thing is fast! It brought a new life to my 1080 Ti, which was bottlenecked in some games by my 2700X. I've been buiding my PCs for almost 25 years and this is the most impressive CPU I've bough since the Pentium 4c (first one with dual channel and 800 Mhz FSB). Paired with 1 gb of ram and a Radeon 9800, I was able to max out Farcry when even the guys at PC Gamer Magasine couldn't. They were saying that almost no one in the world had a PC to max out Farcry...well, I was. :) I'm impressed that much with the 5600X. I run Cyberpunk ultra at 2k. With my 2700X, in some places, it was very stuttery even at mid-high settings, now it runs far better at ultra even with the same GPU. It's crazy good. Good job AMD.

      @sw4gr1d fucking wot, are you stupid? The 3600 launched at $200 2 YEARS AGO, ofc the 11400 is cheaper, it has to be otherwise it would never sell! You're comparing an oleder generation to the newest generation and acting like its a surprise that it developed? The 3600 was not overpriced when it was released, I'd argue it had some of the highest value of 2019, but in 2021 with the prices the market is at atm, then no it is not a good deal, IMO you should be going for 8 cores if you're going to build a PC this year, so I would say neither the 11400F/11400 or Ryzen 5 3600 are really worth your time in 2021, ESPECIALLY with DDDR5 and AM5 on the way soon I'd just wait til the new platforms.
