- Jo Nagle’s New Keys | Roland RD-88 Unboxing
I am NOT sponsored by any company BUT if you are interested in getting this keyboard and you want to support your friendly indie musician, you can use this link: amzn.to/3O0JIFl
This year I was blessed to received a new keyboard. I did a lot of research to find something to meet all my perimeters - manageable weight and size, 88 weighted keys, large and glorious sounding sound back, midi capability, and a few other bells and whistles I required. I also had to stay within a certain budget and this Roland RD-88 was perfect for all my needs! I have been performing with it all year and have been enjoying it SO much.
HUGE thank you to my friend Christina Strutt for making it possible!

Beautiful. 🤗
I'm choosing between Privia 3100/5000/6000 (though the 5000's tones are too limited), Roland FP-e50, FP-60x, and this one. When comparing the Privia 6000 and RD 88, Roland stands out with a smoother and more believable sound engine for both piano and e-piano, more authentic key action, and its Zen Core that offers advanced synthesized tones and moods. Plus, its controls are more friendly compared to the FP-e50 and FP-60x.
Honestly, I love Casio Privia 6000 for its design almost beyond our reality. But, there are important trade-offs. So I tend to choose more expensive RD-88, it hits sweet spots that fit my use cases. And your unboxing and launch is so empathic, especially that one: "In reality it looks better than on photos". So RD 88 probably worth it.
Also, who was the person that yelled on you in his headphones? 😅I can see he is a streamer. Could you share his socials? Interesting to check out.
Want to order one this weekend. Thanks for video.
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful! Did you end up ordering it?
I have never been interested in playing any sort of instrument until about a month ago. I secretly bought a Roland RD-2000 and picked it up today, with Rolands KC 80 amp and Rolands RPU-3 foot switch pedal and headphones and ( she doesn’t know ). It will be my first time touching a keyboard. I want to master the piano over the rest of my life and I turn 60 in one month.
Long story short, my wife had 12 years of lessons and played piano for the church for 25 yrs. She is 60 and she started playing when she was 4 yrs old. So, she’s pretty much a pro. I am not going to tell her and I will surprise her when I sit down at her piano and play “Fur Elise”.
BTW, I’m putting the Roland RD2000 piano in my home office and only playing it with the amp when she is not home otherwise it will be with the headphones. She never comes into my office because it’s far enough away from the central part of the house and is over the garage. She’s going to freak. Wish me luck. 🙂👍
@@QuantumG432 What an awesome story!! Good luck to you! I bet she will be thrilled when you reveal the surprise! A great song choice🎶🎶
The Casio Previa back pack case fits the Roland RD-88 perfectly. I can unload and bring all my gear in one trip. Piano on my back, cables in the case pouches, X stand in one hand, amp (Spacestation V3) in the other.
It's a game changer when the gig is two blocks from the nearest parking spot.
Thank you for sharing this! So incredibly helpful. I have a pretty okay case but it's a no-name brand I found online and I worry it won't hold up. I'll look up the Casio Previa case.
The RD-88 is an amazing board and your skills clearly deserve one!
Thank you! It is a great keyboard for sure! xo
Hello Jo, I also bought my RD-88 a year ago and "love it long time" . .🎹 . I would strongly recommend you replace your keyboard stand with the rock solid "no sliding" Roland KS-11 Z-style Keyboard Stand - $159.- - Its the best 🎹 keyboard stand I ever had. That stand you now have is a risk and will bring you problems. . . . Enjoy your new keyboard - Jim - Arkansas - 🎼🎵🎶
Hi Jim! Thank you for the recommendation!
I just got my RD-88. Excellent instrument! Sweetwater gave me a stellar deal too! Now to enjoy it and not keep debating whether I made the correct choice or not (lol). Still.. that new Yamaha CK88…. hmmm
I am really loving my RD-88! Dreamy sounds and so easy to haul for gigs. The Yamaha CK88 wasn't available when I was making my decision for a keyboard (this video was filmed early last year and I had been looking since the year prior.) Definitely would have been in the running if I were looking now!!
Brilliant I've got one of them. Do you know if you can record a tune on the keyboard and upload it to social media?? You can with the Yamaha psr sx series. Thanks , Kev.
I plug into my Alesis Multimix to record audio for performances I film for social media. I haven't tried other ways, but I imagine it's quite possible since the keyboard has outputs for everything you'd need to accomplish that.
I'm between RD-88 and FANTOM-08, I chose RD-88 because its piano sound is so beautiful, and I'm still waiting for it because it's sold out.
Yes, the piano sound is so good!
Nice piano, I have the Roland Juno DS
Thank you! The Roland Juno is a great keyboard! Do you play for fun or is it your profession?
@@jonagle welcome and thank you very much. I play for fun😊
@@anthonyeretz1070 Wonderfull!
What type of speakers did you connect with this keyboard?
This keyboard has built in speakers for practice, and for show I typically do DI to the PA. Yamaha has some good amps as well, but DI means you can carry less stuff!
Agree. I thought RD88 is stage piano and does not have inbuilt speakers. My DS88 has none. So i connect it to good quality headphones for practice.
@@pm7805 It is a stage keyboard AND has built-in speakers - it has a button to toggle them on/off so it's great for small rehearsal and practice and then you can turn it off for stage!
I know the struggle! It's pricey here but some countries make certain products so expensive almost no one can buy!
