Moved to the Hudson Valley recently and heard about the home. I've known the song for years, but wasn't aware of the backstory. A visit is planned for the future, but for now, I'll just enjoy the words and music...
Funny you saying you cry like a rainstormwhenever you hearit..OH so do I! This song formeis the most moving song I have ever heard, hauntingly beautiful, heartbreaking and divine. For anyone who knows what it is like to love a "place" as much as you can love anything and then to loose it as I have knows this tyobe a powerful piece. It has been over twenty years since Ilost my "Olana". I will never get over my final masterpiece on the hill.
Got to be one of the best songs I've ever listened to. I mean, there are of course many, but this is a great song and performance in my humble opinion. Just beautiful stuff. Thanks so much.
He performed it live in the Bing for KINK radio here in Portland, OR (Don't ask, that's just the call letters, not the "theme"). I wish I could find that recording. It's very simple, and minimal, and entirely powerful. It makes me cry like a rainstorm every time I hear it.
Great song! Frederic Edwin Church is one of my favorite landscape painters. The song is dead-on biographical. Who's the backup? She sounds like a young Stevie Nicks.
DOBIE WAN KANOBIE ❤ REVISITED JULY 22. 2024. ❤ The story line made a Huge Impression, on Me , Thanks again Marc , ❤❤❤
The best song - that nobody knows about.
A masterpiece about a masterpiece. . . .
Marc Cohn is one of my favorites

Great song, the lyrics and the way he sings with emotion. Better version than on the album.
Hauntingly gorgeous song.

wow. better than album version. This song is my favorite ghost story.
+S.I. Rosenbaum For real...way better
This version is haunting, almost hypnotic. An absolute masterpiece in it's simplicity.
