Whilst there, Wyatt spoke to Jimi's former girlfriend Kathy Etchingham, who lived there with him, on what the restoration meant to her, playing Twister, and Jimi's love of Coronation Street...

Kathy Etchingham is absolutely lovely! I can see why Jimi Hendrix was so drawn to her. I bet they had the greatest time together. Awesome.
I agree - and if he'd stayed with her, he would probably still be alive today. Or at least he would have lived a lot longer.

Ive known a few people who knew Jimi way back in the days in London and they all said the same thing about him, that he was a gentleman and very very humble.
@Wes 76 :You have no idea who I am mate, I lived in London, Im British, in the late 1960s and knew many people in the Rock N Roll world, I almost met Jimi but it just didnt happen for various reasons, friends knew Chas Chandler, who brought Jimi to the UK.
@@abw48 his girlfriend has aged well. I liked him as a kid. I always thought that he was heavy into drugs! Was watching an interview with Roger Daltry yesterday. He was clean also, they needed someone to be. Stay healthy both 😎
@@Thefunksoulbro : Most of us in that scene were into various drugs, mainly Hashish and LSD, Jimi loved both, as did I, as for Roger Daltry he was the ONLY one in the Who that were NOT into various drugs and so, as he has stated in the past, he was the one that had to be in control of the Band because the others were out of it. Personally I got clean and sober in 1984.

I belive the line 'after all the Jack's were in their boxes and the clowns have all gone to bed' referred to the test card picture that used to appear on the TV (the little girl with the jack in the box and clown) when the TV shut down/opened.

Kathy is a really Lovely woman who took care of Jimi from the day he landed in London for almost two years. A real Sweetheart! Rev. Muddy
I read her book, they had a lot of easy going fun together, watching silly tv shows, going skating, playing board games, laughing about ridiculous situations. They fought when they needed to, they didn’t seem to hide their feelings. It must have been a comfort to have her in his life when it was spinning out of control from fame.

Great interview Kathy, I have seen a lot of interviews about Jimi, and they all say the same thing, Jimi was very cool, and a real person, not some superstar that had a god complex. He is still one of my all time rock hero’s. RIP Jimi

Thanks for the feedback..just i learned before 2 days he was a scorpio and to remember this i connect with paganini who was scorpio too and playing the violin with virtuosity as hendrix played the guitar.It is ok isnot so big deal!!

That's what people forget and younger people don't realize is how monochrome and still post-war kind of austerity England was in then despite how all the 'swinging 60s' docs present it. Rock and pop was still relatively new and the new stars and younger generation who were breaking free of all the conservative repression were essentially down to earth humble types. The whole rock star icon thing started in the 1970s but the 1960s figures like Hendrix and Jim Morrison whose stage personas and public image they were trying to emulate were genuine creative individuals who got caught up in and carried away by the changing times they were in before they probably really knew what was happening or just what a cultural force they were creating.
Yeah, but Jimi's dad wasn't a navy Admiral caught up in the false flag of the Bay of Tonkin incident. Something fake about Morrison......"You're all slaaaaaves!". Well, you would know, Jim.

I have the same amplifier as Jimi & Kathy had in this flat, a Leak Stereo 30, made in Acton London in 1960s and it still sounds great!
I was at Ft. Bragg, 82nd Abn. Div. 1984. I had "The Experience," rather PRIVILAGE of being invited by a grunt, to sit in Jimi's room. I was, his initials are etched in the concrete block, invited to notice his initials. I finished my cigarette, cleans off the table, straightened up and left in awe. All The Way and Then Some. Screaming Eagles. ROCK STEADY.
That was fun! It's a privilege to hear how things were, when Jimi was relaxing at home, and not performing!
I LOVE the fact that Jimi Hendrix in some way got a kick out of the old Ena-Sharples Coronation Street! I love it when America meets England and vice versa (English-born naturalised American here, married to a native New York honorary Englishman!)

Amazing how sharp her memory is. I did a lot of partying in the late 70s on to 90s. And I can barely remember much. Photos help jog some memories. But those many years. She is definitely a charming woman as well!

It's a small world, Jimi liked Ena Sharples from Coronation St. who - when she wasn't being an interfering old bint - like to play her Harmonium, that very Harmonium Ena owned was later played by John Lennon on 'We Can Work It Out'

There is this moment, somewhere in the middle of the ambient nautical interlude and during the bass solo, when Jimi comes back in with a few pentatonic blues licks. It briefly builds and then subsides, but it is so so fucking sweet that Ill play that 30 seconds on repeat for ages. So nice to chat with other fans :)

@@paulgrahamedwardspencer5161 I would be glad to help Ms Etchingham sue you for that poisonous libel...What Kathy did was bravely defend the truth, which no one in England managed to do up to the point where Kathy finally did it in 1990...Only a blind fool would say Kathy killed a sweet innocent Monika...What Kathy did do is find the original witnesses like the ambulance drivers who told a story that drastically differed from Monika's false version...Kathy's investigation led to questioning of all those involved that proved the actual events happened 6 hours earlier than what Monika told the police and that Monika's lies were designed to cover up the fact Jimi was murdered...How dare you accuse Kathy of murdering Monika...Monika died directly because the truth was coming out and her true participation in the events of that morning were finally being exposed and would have demanded accounting...Monika died because she stood to expose a terrible assassination that involved governments...And she may not have killed herself as believed - which is just another case of a misreported death just like Jimi's...

I read her book. I actually bought it at that place. I like her and enjoyed the book although I expected more from it. What struck me though was that she didn't give me the impression that she was into his music. I could be wrong but I would've loved to read more about what it was like when he played guitar at home. Maybe it's just me but that's what I really missed. While I am nitpicking, I also thought she was trying to show off about who she has slept with as if they had agreed that they had an open relationship but I think she was in denial about all the woman he slept with during their relationship. In other words she is trying hard to make the world believe that their relationship was very special and that she was his only great love. Maybe she was but I am not so sure. Maybe I am not making any sense but these are the feelings that always pop up when I hear her.

I think Kathy is doing a good job to tell a more truthful story about Jimi than otherwise would be known. I remember I read that the reason she left Jimi was because of his interest in other women. Kathy got married and had children and so on, and I think Jimi wanted her back later on but she was not available anymore....they were still on good terms...those were the sixties with free love...

Im 71 years old. I remember the 60’s well,the good and the bad. I remember the Motown Sound artists during that time and also the British Invasion. Somehow I missed Hendrix,but not by much. I started listening to his music during the summer of 71. He was dead around nine months. He was very unique. I think Kathy was a woman that truly cared about him.

She ended-up marrying sum kind of Doctor. Jimi wuz REALly n love wit Kathy, so he took her marriage, very hard.
From there, he went on wit several relationshipz. Devon Wilson, his bi-sexual, drug procuring, personal manager typo gurlfriend. Stella & Collette, 2 WOmen, who were hangin around Producer Alan Douglas. ( 1 of em wuz married 2 him. I blieve it wuz Stella. ) Movie actress Kristin Nefer, whom he proposed 2 a week b4 his tragic death. Lastly, there wuz Monica Danneman, who also claimed 2 b ngaged 2 Jimi. ( LOL!!! @ Hendrix runnin game on da lassez. ) Jimi ended-up passing away, whilst n da company of Monica Danneman. Bottomline - none of these post Kathy relationshipz, produced any offspring.

Interesting interview. What Coronation Street was on all the way back then! Just watched the biopic. Andre 3000 was too old to play Jimi and Hayley Attwell's accent sounds far too northern and hurt my ears. Not a great film but interesting moments

Monika Danneman-the chic he was with when he died, Kathy was always suspicious of her and after watching documentaries and reading the books on his death, I think Monika played a pivitol role in his death!!! The woman committed suicide yrs later taking all the guilt to the grave with her, she married the Scorpions guitarist and kept his fender stratocaster "black beauty" which that twat had NO RIGHT keeping!! Just hearing that name Monika Danneman boils my blood!!
