I’ve read a lot of complaints about the gauge cluster. Saying it looks like it’s from the 80’s. I personally love it, I think gm nailed every single aspect of the ats. Not the base with halogens the performance and premium trim are the way to go! The fricken headlights move when you turn! I love my ats!!
The ATS is great, I wanted the premium package with the red leather. I refuse to buy one new because of depreciation, but I did buy a 2013 Black premium with the red leather and flex fuel. I found a one owner with 60k miles and I am more than happy with the car. it now has 70k on it and maintenance cost next to nothing compared to the BMW I owned in the pass which always had problems. The magnetic suspension is a must have, I simple cannot get enough of how well it handles. Love your reviews man keep up the great work.
Good review! I've always been a Caddy fan EVEN in there bad times. Its just something about them HOWEVER they should have kept the crest it looks so much better looking.
I just rented the XTS for a week and loved it. I love the way this new ATS coupe looks. I was never a fan of the way the CTS coupe looked didn't like that hatchback styling. With Infiniti and BMW having coupes I was hoping cadilllac would come out with another styling coupe. Use to like the Eldorado and Allante' back in the day. Cadillac is getting their spark back
It took a few months but I found my ATS Coupe 3.6 in this same color in the Performance trim level and I love it. I agree with a great deal of his thoughts in this review and I too love to drive my car. Cadillac did this one right!
Great work! On Christmas my parents are buying me a high tech camera and I'm gonna start reviewing cars so I can be like you and suburawrxfan saabkyle and you! Great vid by the way!
I love the ats, but I think the 13-14 front end looks best. I like the bottom grill work having the separation. It highlights the sharp angles of the bumper. I also think the updated grill is little to big looking. I think the 13-14 grills are perfect size and midnight chrome looks best! I have a 14 ats phantom gray metallic with the midnight chrome grill and beautiful pained 18’s
I'm bidding my time. I learned somewhere that very likely when the new CT6 comes out next year it will trickle down an all-new 3.6 V6 with even more power (~335hp & 285lb/ft) but the bigger news is the inclusion of a 8spd automatic along with that engine. Put that into the ATS and one of this car's greatest weakness (powertrain) can be remedied. I'd be hard-pressed to pick the IS350 F-sport over an ATS 3.6 Performance then.
Good reviews but often picky over the smallest things. Saying a material or feature is subpar to another vehicle is fine but saying it's subpar in general is too vague because for some people it could be great. But overall very helpful
I wish Cadillac put the LCD screen from the CTS' gauge cluster and put it as an option for the ats. The ats gauge cluster looks so cheap in that interior. Sticks out badly in an otherwise well appointed interior. However the more I look at this car, the more I like it. I really like the wide stance. Interested in the ats-v.
Totally agree. The gauge cluster does not match the rest of the car. Like you said, they need to take the LCD for the CTS, but make it standard on both models. It looks like it belongs on the car from the early 90's.
I sat in an ATS coupe at the autoshow and even though the exterior being so boring was a big turn off (why not just buy the sedan its more practical) the interior was a nice place to be. I would say based on rumors if you are interested in getting an ATS wait until model year 2016, rumor has it that when the next generation Camaro comes out it will debut with the new 2.0T engine and new 3.6L N/A engine. No doubt this engine will also replace the current 2.0T and 3.6L engine in the alpha ATS. I would also expect the 8 speed auto to replace the 6 speed auto at that time, only other thing is that yes the gauge cluster does looking boring. I think it is interesting that both the Lexus and Cadillac entry in this segment both have engines considered to be decent but not really up to the task in this segment. Honestly if you could get an ATS coupe with the 3.6L engine and a 6 speed manual then that would be a hard car to pass up on.
I understand Cadillac is trying to change it's image which is fine cause they have done a great job. But I wouldn't mind a nob to control the volume even a nob would be nice for the a/c and also a little plastic Handel I wouldn't mind for the glove box. Idk everything just feels to touch sensitive. I can't complain to much cause let's be honest Cadillac has done an amazing job with their cars, suv's and crossovers
"I HATE THIS, I HATE THAT" Why not say " I am not a fan of" "I don't care for" I dislike the gauge design and i think it looks low rent. But saying HATE HATE HATE makes you seem like a Super Spoiled person.
Bro you're from Maryland too!!! Lol. I can tell by all the roads you driving in like Rock Creek park and Military Rd. Can you give any advice on which car to buy with a 19K tag? Any recommendation would be nice.
Can you say "UNDER $40K"? I knew you could..... To get a V series for under $40K and be eating lambos and hellcats for breakfast in a ALL STOCK care is unheard of.
The motor in the ats the 3.6 is the same motor as the xts v sport or cts v sport with twin turbos. The motor in the ats v is different 3.6, even the xts and cts v sport 3.6 is different in more the just the fact that it has twin turbos.
I really wish car reviewers would stick to the merits/demerits of the reviewed cars without constantly going through the laundry list of competitors and how the car stacks up against them. A summary at the end would be a good idea, but alot of them, if not all of them, tend to talk about one feature and how it compares to each of its competitors, then talk about another feature then go through the same list of competitors.
***** I don't disagree with your point. However, if a reviewer simply states things like, "the steering is nicely weighted and responsive", "the brakes are strong but feel spongy", "there's minimal body roll", "there's a fair amount of body roll", one would certainly think that a prospective buyer can get an idea of what the car is like. There is no need to continually name the 4 or 5 cars while commenting on each and every aspect of the car. At the same time, if a buyer uses reviews to determine a buying choice, then that's just a bad buyer. Personally test-driving cars before investing thousands of dollars is obviously the only way to make a true, right choice.
***** Not trying to be disrespectful, but that doesn't even make sense and, frankly, it contradicts your initial response. Sofyan goes into significant detail on his reviews (which is what I appreciate most from his work). Probably the only things he doesn't discuss is paint quality, LOL.
This is a car review, we are not going out clubbing. Enough with the dance music and flashing camera scenes. Maybe I'm just turning into an old fart. :)
It could be an awesome car, if they had better gauge cluster it reminds me of my old Oldsmobile ciera cluster. I mean its exactly the same w/o the screen. Lol
Good reviews but you should consider driving these cars in a more 'scenic' area. The DC Area is really as boring as it gets- something near the ocean, city, mountains, West Coast, etc....but in the DC Area? Really....trying something more appealing. JMHO
Protector of the Republic how so? it's punchy, torquey, and the smoothest powerband you could as for. all the weight is really low so it corners flat, and the motors are pretty small so you can get really fancy with your suspension
Ryukachoo It's gutless, loses range like fuck, it's very heavy, it's suitable only for appliances, it's soulless, ruins handling and you can't get more fancy with suspension than GM's magnetic ride control. No thanks! It would make the ATS weight as much as a Ford F-150 and handle like that crappy Tesla.
I've heard Cadillac is going to drop this whole XTS, CTS, ATS, CTS-V, V-Sport, etc., naming convention and go to numeric system, a la BMW, but the top would be "6", not "7". No idea when it's going to go live.
+David C Schlesinger Been saying the same thing for years. Plus the wreath and crest why change. they have been losing sales due to terrible marketing and hit and miss fit and finish.
I can only hear this out of the left speaker. Also, why would anyone pay for the 4G connection just for the car? You can just use an app on your smart phone to share your data connection with other people in the car.
Cadillac says the connection is more stable and secure by using the car's WiFi signal. You'll be able to stream video or download files much better and the car will allow you to pair up to 6 devices.
If this has an external antenna then it will get much better reception to prevent data dead spot areas that are noticeably terrible to deal with when streaming audio. Lots of places I run into where it goes from 4g to 3g then 2g because of poor signal strength. Interior of car acts like a faraday cage. Would want to see some real world testing before speculating on this too much though.
Cadillac isn't a Cadillac without a v8 at least have a Cadillac design engine instead of a boring corporate motor. Where is that twin turbo charged v8 already??
i think the lexus is350 is a much better car overall. better transmission, great chassis, more comfortable, more reliable. get the f sport and it beats everything in comparison tests. Plus the transmission in the ats is not the greatest
Yes, the IS350 F-Sport is a better all-around car, but its engine might be the worst performer in the segment. It's acceleration times are the worst, well behind the S4/S5 and 335i/435i, and slightly behind the ATS and Q50. Only the TLX V-6 SH-AWD is slower, but only marginally. Not sure where the S60 lands. And I'm certain the new C400 will be close to best in class.
Yes, this car is handsome. Yes, this car is nimble (as Sofyan said ad nauseum). But it's not a game-changer. Just like the ATS. To be a game changer, it takes more than an able chassis and steering, I'm sorry to say. You need a world-besting engine and transmission combo. You need top-notch electronics. You need dynamic styling (but maybe not as dynamic as the Lexus RC). The ATS sedan is selling about 2000 units per month, which is significantly below its direct competition for the same deficits mentioned above. That won't change much with this coupe. BTW, the CTS sedan is suffering the same fate where it has world-class chassis and steering, but almost everything else falls behind its direction competition and it, too, lags in sales behind the big-hitters (E and 5).
Well, whatever the hell that means to you. The ATS is the driver's car in the this segment. If you're a discriminating sports luxury car buyer, you'd go for the Cadillac.
***** Actually, I've driven the 4 series coupe and the ATS sedan. I'd only imagine this car being the same or better than the sedan. The 4 series, like the 3 series, has been softened to appeal to a larger market. The ATS doesn't have as good an engine, but it has better steering, feels lighter, and is more communicative with the driver. IMO, and in the opinion of most major car reviewers, the ATS is the driver's choice in the segment.
***** No, it's softer in almost every way. Even the sport package feels soft. If you have the ATS with magnetic suspension, that feels quite a bit firmer and more connected when it's in it's stiffest mode.
***** Like I said, they want more buyers. Sadly, most buyers want more luxury than sport. Go ahead and drive a F30/32 and E90/92 back to back. BMW has taken a step in a softer direction for all their cars. It's still sporty, but not like it once was.
I swear you are one of the top car reviewers. I really appreciate your attention to detail, and your overall presentation. A+
Nothing top about this reviewer; he’s a winey little bitch.
John Ward you are the one wining lol

Now this.......is how you review a car. A nice long video, capturing as much vehicle data as possible. Awesome. Keep it going.
Love the high-reving V6, sounds great, next year with the new 8-speed transmission it will be even better.
Man, why are there so many American car haters? Cadillac is a great car, and it is made by GM so it's pretty reliable.
thanks for going back to the first person handicam and improvised lines by the way, it makes the review seem far more authentic

I agree w/ you about the Saturn-esque font on the gauges. I drove an SL-1 for years and that's the first thing I thought of when I saw them.
I have an ATS 3.6 sedan , and I love it.

Good review as always. Please show us a 2015 370z Nismo!
I've driven the sedan and I really like it. My only gripes are the doors; they sound cheap and CUE is horrible.

i should love this car because its handsome and drives well but i don't for some reason. maybe i still have some resentment towards GM

Ryukachoo God no. It would ruin the car.

Ryukachoo The Nurburgring time exemplifies its gutlessness. It's slower than a Ford Transit van.
They're stopping production of the CTS???
They've stopped production of the cts coupe. Sedan is still going strong. No word if the coupe will be brought back for the new generation
Oh okay. That makes a little more sense. Thanks for the clarification lol
***** Yeah there won't be a coupe variant of the current gen CTS, the ATS coupe is the spiritual successor they're even developing a ATS-V coupe
I've heard Cadillac is going to drop this whole XTS, CTS, ATS, CTS-V, V-Sport, etc., naming convention and go to numeric system, a la BMW, but the top would be "6", not "7". No idea when it's going to go live.

cadillac needs to change their gauge cluster!
I can only hear this out of the left speaker.
Also, why would anyone pay for the 4G connection just for the car? You can just use an app on your smart phone to share your data connection with other people in the car.
Cadillac says the connection is more stable and secure by using the car's WiFi signal. You'll be able to stream video or download files much better and the car will allow you to pair up to 6 devices.

i think the lexus is350 is a much better car overall. better transmission, great chassis, more comfortable, more reliable. get the f sport and it beats everything in comparison tests. Plus the transmission in the ats is not the greatest
Agree.
I agree. Lexus is way better when it comes to reliability as well. Extremely easy to maintain
senorgato70 the new TLX is .1 seconds faster to 60 at 5.6 vs 5.7 for the Lexus..... Lexus needs to really redesign their engine lineup.

Interesting. Best times I've seen for TLX range from 5.9 to 6.4 secs. Best times I've seen for IS350 range from 5.6 to 5.8 secs.

Don't see how anyone could blow their cash on a caddy when they could get a German or Japanese ride. Makes no sense.
If driving dynamics is top of the list, then why not?
