That clicking like noise as you pulled on the power cable where it enters the unit appeared to be a sign that there's a manufacturing defect in your unit. This soldering gun ordinarily heats up to temperature in around 10 seconds.
Seems you received a defective unit.
By the way: tight twisting of your wires and soldiering them together as tightly as you can/did can have a negative effect on your throughput. Copper (and nearly all other metals except Silver Ag) passes nothing through the center of each strand. The electrons are shared with all of the atoms completely surrounding it, so it generally cannot pass a current nor signal. Only the Copper atoms on the outside of each strand have free electrons to pass/move along. It takes forever and a day to solder each 2 strands individually but a slightly looser wire grouping/binding may benefit you.

Your problem is the crappy two pin plug not making a good contact. You should not press the trigger for long time this will over heat the coil. The two heat marks on the coil look like spot welds to me. The weller gun is very good my weller gun is over 25 years old and still going strong.

Hi, do you still have the gun and is it still working good?. From reviews on amazon I've seen that the Weller D550PK and D650Pk are junk. I want to buy the Weller D650Pk for heavy chassis work. Do you recommend buying that model? Hope to hear from you soon. Many thanks in advance

I got the same burnt spot on mine and the lights haven’t ever worked. I have an older model that works like a champ. The tips are cheap and shitty on the new one as well. Kinda pissed I spent the dough on the newer 260/200 and it sits in my work bench.

I just bought one, plugged it in while watching this video. Tip immediately warped. Then I used it and it broke within 5 minutes.
