Daniel Balavoine is a poet and one of the best rock and roll star ever. We'll be missing him forever. Very happy that you appreciate him that much. His art goes well beyond the words he sings just because he feels them so deeply.
Clairement 😰
Wow ! A beautiful Daniel Balavoine's song but not one of the most known. Thank you very much to allow your community to discover this incredible song. Thanks a lot !
That song, those lyrics, That interpretation... Legend. His daughter said in a TV show that he used to smoke before singing it in order to have that special hoarse voice at the end.
Revolucion is an other incredible song about dictatorship in America Latina. So powerful.
OMG ! You finally did it ! You must know one thing about this live. When he did it, his brother was doing war in Libya. Balavoine is also known for his position about war in general. He called his brother to come back. When he sings that track, we can feel and understand what is happening inside him through his voice of course, but also through his eyes. For me, that live performance is his best. Thank you so much Dereck.

This song is about a sud american poet .
Thanks Dereck! Very impressive! We have so sadly lost an extraordinary singer and musical genius...
You’ve found what remains for me his best tv appearnce ever.
I have seen this when it was broadcasted in the 80s and it remained a very memorable souvenir since…
Finally, since the time I propose this song to you, I am very happy that you share it with us. There is also "partir avant les siens" which is unfortunately premonitory, beautiful. Thank you very much Dereck
Daniel Balavoine : chant, Hérvé Limeretz : Oberheim OB-8/PPG Wave 2, Phillipe Patron : Prophet 5, Jo Hammer : batterie
CERTAINLY MY FAVORITE
Hi dude being French I validate all that you listen to in French varieties. I don't know if you know a French singer who died very young of cystic fibrosis, his name was Grégory Lemarchal, I think you're going to like it a lot. A greeting from France friend 😎✌️
Hi Dereck! I didn't really know this song even if vaguely heard. Daniel was used just like the other singers also at that time and well before to interpret in TV shows songs from albums or which were on B sides or even "unreleased" as also did in the same decade Mylène Farmer with Chloé, Greta, Au Bout De la Nuit in 1986 and 1987 taken from her first album "Cendres De Lune", Allan (taken from her second album "Ainsi Soit Je...") and Puisque (unpublished song, you can hear it at the end of the videoclip "Pourvu Qu'Elles Soient Douces", also the B-Side of this single) in 1988, etc....
The song evokes the torture in the countries of Latin America subjected to the military dictators and especially to the Argentinian pianist Miguel Angel Estrella whose fingers and tongue had been cut off at the time of his detention in Uruguay and whose only way to express himself was to hit with his head.
It is part of his seventh studio album "Loin Des Yeux De L'Occident" released in 1983 but also on the B side of the 45 RPM "Les Petits Lolos" released in March 1984.
This song will be released 3 years after his death in 1989in 45 RPM in a remixed version and this time on side A ( and subtitled "A L'Ecrivain Argentin") and with side B a song from this album "Loin Des Yeux De L'Occident", the title "Elu Par Les Boeufs" .
Thanks for your great job our Frenchie American crony. 👍🇫🇷
Musically very interesting and the interpretation insane. I imagine that in concert it must have been sometimes even more powerful. Another title of him that I discover, thanks to you Dereck !
In another genre and much more recent, I suggest you to try some tracks of The Liminanas : "El Beach" , "Dimanche" , "Que Calor" , "Istanbul is sleepy" ..... Yes they are French !
I recommend Daniel Balavoine's "Petit Homme Mort Au Combat"__food for thoughts.
Please, look at the live version 1984 au palais des sports. For me the best version of this wonderful song.
the best song of Balavoine
Another goat! Entertainment as it always should have stayed! Thanks Derek, always a pleasure!
My advice : " Dieu que l'amour est triste". With a mention of South American dictature in San Salvador.
Hello (again) Dereck,
I comment a little late, but late is better than never, lol
Long time waited for this so exceptional performance of Mister Daniel Balavoine.
This song always reminds me of the French film *"Rue Barbare"* (Barbarian Street) by director *Gilles Béhat* with *Bernard Giraudeau* released a year later (1984) as this title from Balavoine (1983).
*Bernard Lavilliers* signed the movie's O.S.T.
And if you listen carefully, *"Frappe avec ta tête"* looks like a (musical) mix between the film's intro credits and the magnificent song *"Y'a peut-être un ailleurs"* (There's perhaps an elsewhere), which closes this one.
Before and after Daniel Balavoine, I never knew an artist so committed and revolted against poverty, dictators, and their persecutions. We miss him so much here in France.
Daniel's brother was engaged in the war in Libya at the time of this live recording on a French evening prime-time variety show.
And it seems to me the show host (Michel Drucker) had explained the singer had cried in the dressing room after this song performance which directly connected him to his brother's experience in Libya.
Thank you very much my friend.
If I remember, yes he did that in the studio version too.
Great song from Balavoine !
Hi! Thanx to you to react to that more than beautiful song about freedom of speech. Before he sang that song on that day, he was very angry.... there was a lot going on and he let it go during the song. You can see his anger just after he finished the song in his eyes... You said, you never saw him like that before, neither do France Gall, who called him right after seeing him sing, to ask him, if he was alright.... I hope you´ll react on other songs of him, like "les oiseaux 1 & 2". His Daughter sang "les oiseaux" too by the way. Idea for a double react.... who knows....🙂Let appreciate the work of his musicians too... Joe Hammer for example. They were fabulous!!!! Have a nice day!
+1 for referencing
This song evokes torture in Latin American countries subjected to military dictators, it tells the story of an Argentine writer-poet whose tongue and fingers have been cut off, whose only way to express himself is to hit with his head... Thanks for this choice !!!
Zidane's favorite song
Actually the pianist Miguel Angel Estrella died 4 days ago... The timing is perfect 😢
So beautiful
Balavoine said : "Rock is sweat, it's nothing but that, and no matter how you sweat, what matters is to sweat."
lyrics in english
hit with your head
Daniel Balavoine
Under the torture behind the walls
Eyes filled with dread
The man of pure vows suffers and endures
The deaf knocks of the law
Drowned by red bubbles
His silent words
Rise and crash against the wall
The writer bends but does not break
Feels a strange pain in the fingers
Delirium in stammering who will live will conquer
In the poet's cell
When the jailer comes near him
When no one cares anymore
The man we thought was asleep
Ho, hit with his head
Out of ideas, they cut you off
And tongue and fingers
To keep you from expressing yourself
But they don't know
That we don't fight
against men
Who can do anything especially for what they believe
And the crippled man finds his voice
Challenge the world by coming down from his cross
And brings freedom out of anonymity
In the poet's cell
When the jailer comes near him
When no one cares anymore
The man we thought was asleep
Ho, hit with his head
Ho, holala
hoo ho
ho ho
Hit your head, hit your head (Aha, aha, aha, aha)
Hit your head, hit your head (Ah ya aya, ah ya aya)
Hit your head, hit your head (Hou ho hoho)
Hit your head, hit your head (Hoho hoho mmh ho hoho)
Hit, hit with your head, hit with your head (Hoho mmh ho)
Hit your head, hit your head (Who ho ah ya ah ya ah ya)
Hit, hit with your head, hit with your head (Yeah ho)
Hit your head, hit your head (Who ho mmh yeah)
Strike (Yeah yeah yeah)
Hit, hit with your head, hit with your head (Hoho hoho hoho)
Hit your head, hit your head (Houho hou hoho hit, hit)
Hit, hit with your head, hit with your head (Ay yeah ah yeah ah)
Hit your head, hit your head (Houhouh houhou)
Hit (Whoo hoo)
Hit, hit with your head, hit with your head (Houhou houhou ho)
Hit your head, hit your head (Who hoo yeah)
Hi Dereck, nice react on our french legend Mister Balavoine. Can i give you one suggestion ? " Naza - Loin de moi "
5 other songs you should react to:
Lucie
Petite Angèle
Petit homme mort au combat
Ne parle pas de malheur
Les oiseaux
Please, could you react to 'Lucie" from Daniel Balavoine in 1978 ? Thanks !
I recommend ''J'ai encore rêvé d'elle'' from Il était une fois
The most high level is: les oiseaux 1 and 2
sporty performance even if the singer is always half a tone off.b
But maybe it's because of the composer and the melody really works that way
je ne la connaissais pas celle-là!
Moi non plus
Moi je la connaissais. Pas souvent reprise.
Me neither!!!!! WHY?
Waouh didn't know this one! This is so him : sensitive, committed... The lyrics make me think to "Diego" by Michel Berger / Johnny Halliday I don't remember if you did a react to. Thank you! French people discovering french songs because of you 😁. Sorry gor my poor english. Take care 🤟
Propuesta Dhaka Brahka "Monakh"
But he Loves to REACT some SYNTH WAVE TECHNO EURODISCO EURODANCE
