  • There have been 3 instances in the last 20 years where LARGE jumps happened in raw material costs for the spray foam and coating world. This most recent one is the worst of them all, but nothing new all the same. In this video I go over the 3 factors that have contributed to this variance and instability.

    January 2021 Canada had to now be using the HFO blowing agent. So an entire country just came on line to place demand on the Honeywell supply of Solstice HFO blowing agent. This changed demand drastically, which Honeywell knew about, but then other issues compounded their ability to meet demand.

      I just heard today that Honeywell's non HFO blowing agent plant has been shut down for almost a year. No wonder I can't get foam.

    Always great videos. Nationally, we've allowed too much consolidation by large companies - that encouraged gouging, offshore patent filing and profit taking without tax, and leaves us with inflation and low production. Even lumber mill operators were found to be colluding to drive up profits 100-fold in the same way last year. Small Government deregulation allows corruption and price fixing by monopolies here now. You rely on the industry and so I hear your political correctness in the face of a leadership void that hurts everyone - created by too few big businesses holding all of the cards.

    My spray foam guy just finished today the majority of the work needed, everyone in the area is having problems getting spray foam. Hes been getting 2 to 3 drum sets a week from the supplier while hes always been installing 5 to 6 sets a week..
    You have mentioned previously that you were going to do more videos on the sound transmission, rodent and pest control; what happened to those? Also another video idea is would you care to comment about whether it is a good idea to spray some foam on the underside of plywood/stairs to make the assembly more rigid/ less squeaky?
    Ive seen this becoming a trend in the area in luxury homes and im not sure as to the actual benefits.
    Keep up the great work, loving the videos!

      The bug video is coming. I just have not been motivated to make it as of yet.
      Backs of stairs are fine, as are many other areas of homes like just doing rafter heels. Maybe I'll do a video just dedicated to small things like that...

    I got quoted 12 grand in Arkansas for 1050 square feet of closed cell spray foam. Way too much. Sad thing, is that it will be the spray foam businesses that suffer, when people just opt to go conventional. Why isnt the government getting on top of these huge price increases. This goes beyond the market and supply/demand.

    • @SprayJones
      @SprayJones  2 роки тому +1

      People decided not to go foam 15 years ago when prices were cheaper then. If you have a mindset that something is too expensive it always will be.... You need to see the value in what you are buying today and what it will save you tomorrow.
      Know why the rich get richer? They don't have a poverty mindset, when other people are pulling back and wringing their hands, they are buying. Then prices rise again and they own wealth.

    watching this video footage while listening to you (and btw, very good and helpful info - ty) I keep thinking it would seem to make more sense on new construction to spray foam the outside of a basement before backfilling so the mass of the concrete could contribute to stability and keeping water away from it. Am I totally off base here?

    • @SprayJones
      @SprayJones  2 роки тому

      No, not off base, just VERY weather dependent. No one wants to leave the hole open while the right weather conditions align for the SPF guys.

    Would you be able to do a video about the many and different types of CC spray foam brands? So speaking and explaining about the quality, manufacturing, durability, premium or low end? It may be controversial but it would be so useful to get some information on this because other than the spec sheet, the buyers really don't know what is "good quality" long lasting, durable foam. Are there foams that deteriorate over time or loose R-value, etc. Ex, If product A has a strong R value and tight cells structure per square inch, may cause it to deteriorate faster than product B that has a slightly lover R value and hold its value for a longer duration. Or are they all just pretty much the same? What's the give and take in the variety products? Are there products to avoid? It may help justify why some companies charge more for their service when they are using a better product, if that's the case,

How about a vid aimed at builders and customers where you how you want a site prepared....heating, woodwork, battens, a refrigerator for cokes, covering things up, how long it takes. Basically if you walked in to a building site and it was all perfect for you - what would you see. So a customer or a builder can know what to do before you get there and while you are there.

    Hi Spray Jones I was considering doing spray foam on a 40x60x16 clear span metal building instead of the rolls you can get with one side with a white tarpy material from the building company. What do you think? How about prep or anything you can tell me . I'm in USA California. I'm installing the building myself so I was thinking spray foam to ease the assembly of the building.
