i worked there in 1996-1997-1998 best yrs of my life i loved it and kept everything i could find with butlins on it lol.... it set me for life i now have my own entertainment business.
this breaks my heart looking at this to see what has become of this once great camp where me and my parents spent our time on holidays the monorail the chairlifts things were so much laid back in these days. sad to say its all about the money now. I used to love barnums showbar and molly malones in the evenings in minehead amazing memorys I have of this place.
I'm delighted to be able to say the video was made in 2009 and it's now very out of date. Butlin's is well and truly BACK, and they've done an incredible job. I strongly recommend Minehead more than the other two if you would prefer to see lots of traditional Butlin's buildings!
This is a great piece of work. Very grateful. Met my Wife there in 1986. we still go back every Easter. Great memories . I agree with Vince. I think it was better back then but then I'm getting on a bit now !
I knew there was a train track at the back by the camp site but couldn't find any proof till I saw this video. Thanks for posting 👍. Happy memories just returned to a now 40 year old man 😁
The best family holidays there in the early 90s. Would rather there back then than going abroad . Was just magical . Soon as we left I was counting down the days to the next year . Went down hill soon as the skyline was built in my opinion.
I absolutely understand that the place has to evolve to create new memories for all the kids of this generation. But, I will always cherish those nostalgiac times. I now have a daughter of my own and I plan to take her to butlins for her first holiday. Can't wait to see the new place for myself.
Butlins has lost some of its magic before the sky line pavilion there was a lot more rides and attractions even in to the early hours it's a shame things had to change not all progress is for the best
as a matter of interest what caused the funfair to be flooded in the 80si went there in march 1981 that was my first and only time there as I couldn't breathe at night (only night time in bed though)and was told by the dr it was due to the fact butlins was built o an old marsh and the gas only seemed to seep through to the surface late at night
I went there as a child in the early 1980s , some parts had been modernised like the bars that had windows to the swimming pool in it so you could see people swimming through the glass but some parts like the old ball rooms from the 1950,s and the fun fair area were quite run down .
@@esseel7896 They are, but fortunately things have changed a lot for the better since then! Weirdly that's because the history of Butlin's is far better respected now. So the new things now look like they're very old but in a good way!
Unpopular opinion, the newer Butlins is actually better, here me out. The park has changed a lot due to an increased budget, customer demand, safety and to suit the newer generation of children. The newer things are much safer than the older attractions.
It's so sad! And Butlins Owners ( whatever you call yourselves) Should be ashamed of yourselves I was fortunate enough to 'Experience' Butlins What about the kids of today My Sister's took their children recently, And had to Book Swimming etc in advance. And the Price! Still didn't get to do everything they'd booked When Butlins was 'Butlins' You got there. Got your cozzy on ( while your Mum unpacked ) and went to the pool. With your ( Coin ) For your locker #BringBackButlins ❣️✨ 🎡

Agreed, but thankfully it's gone uphill in recent years. Big time.

Went on holiday as a child to Butlins in July 1985, and had the honour of having the very last chalet, number 760.

There's something totally depressing about all this looking back at Butlins,I mean was it really all that GREAT?heard of rose-tinted spectacles?

Totally depressing.I worked there during the summer of 1997.And I hate those stupid trains.
P.S.The redcoats were always unsociable aholes too.
Well you sound like a cheerful chatacter
Just the one Summer I presume, especially with that attitude!
Fkn hell, I bet you were good to talk too, miserable twat.
It's so sad!
