Actually kong is 40 years old if you think about it, his first appearance was in 1933, and Hank marlow who had crashed there in 44 saw Kong. And the movie is based in the year “73” which would calculate to about Kong being 40 years old.

1973, to be exact. At the beginning of the movie, it begins in 1944 with young Hank Marlow crash landing on Skull Island. Then transitions 1973 with the film’s current events in Monarch's expedition to Skull Island and Kong, like you said, was a kid with the mindset of an adolescent teenager and was about 107ft.
