    A most interesting way of designing characters. This is very much something I would recommend to other writers of the stories I read. As always I look forward to the next one.

    Great vídeo, man, really helpfull! I would also like to add that I like to use an App called "character planner" whenever I'm going to write a new and important character, it is super detailed and imensely usefull (it takes a while but this app has helped me to get much better and more organized)

    Good advice. Not the first time I've heard it or used it, actually. You sum it and lay it out well!

    I would LOVE for you to do a whole video on alignment . Not only that, but the fact that something which is 'lawful good ' in one society may not be in another. (political i.e. but a 'lawful good ' Republican would be VERY different from a 'lawful good ' Democrat. ) Obviously that example stinks, but I hope you get what I mean.

      Alex Andrews, If enough people want it I will definitely make a video on alignment, it's a topic I'm very interested in.

    Great video, although I have to respectfully disagree with you on where the Joker (Heath Ledger's, since you did use his picture) goes on the alignment chart. I say that in The Dark Knight he was real hero, though if you were talking about the general comic book character, than yeah, he is pretty much chaotic evil

    I definitely want you to do a video on alignment, I don't completely understand what it is, and what happens if a character doesn't completely fall into one of the categories?

      @davidgold3nrose 7 років тому

      Max Meyer there's also neutral on both axis. And right in the middle is 'true neutral'

      Characters, like people, can and should be complex. Meaning, ideally they do not always stay in one box all the time. However alignment is more of a "most of the time" direction of personality, it's to give you an idea of how a character should handle a certain situation.

    Pen & Sword I love to play chaotic good. My brother *was* chaotic evil until he attacked a priest in his own temple, and failed a constitution check. He's now Lawful Good, but still equally as obnoxious. What's your alignment?

    • @pensword7108
      @pensword7108  7 років тому +1

      I'm a chaotic neutral human rogue, I love my character but I mostly DM nowadays. If I'm DMing I make my character a member of the thieves guild who can interact with the party if they need help.

      Pen & Sword that's so cool. I wouldn't have thought of that. I might mention it to our DM. I only played for the first time ever in December. I'm a ranger but specifically the kind that has a lot to do with animals, but I ended up gravitating towards being better with the dual swords than my bow ( I just used it more). Oh and my chaotic evil brother? He's the cleric. Yay.

    do one on theme vs premise

  • @red-rax

    This is very useful, but there are definitely some problems. I think there should be a category for fears, and a worst fear, since that seems to be important for characters, and also, I can't figure out what the background category is for (is it the same as backstory?)

    • @davidgold3nrose
      @davidgold3nrose 7 років тому

      Max Meyer yes

    • @davidgold3nrose
      @davidgold3nrose 7 років тому

      You should play D&D

    • @pensword7108
      @pensword7108  7 років тому +2

      "Fears" can easily be grouped into "Flaws" but I see what you're saying, you're right I've never considered adding specific fears to a character.
      And yes background and backstory are sort of the same thing, it's really just the important details of what shaped a character to where they are at the start of the story.

    Just out of curiosity, if I accidentally written nearly five pages worth of backstory, is that still worth while in DnD?

    • @pensword7108
      @pensword7108  7 років тому +1

      Ryoma Ashikaga, In D&D and writing that's perfectly fine, it helps you understand your character better. (Just don't expect all the other players to read it all lol)

    Could you make a follow up on this where you fill up this sheet with a well known character? Some stats mean the same or does not have a meaning connected to litterature in my language so I have a hard time making sense out of them. (Constitution, orientation and the different versions of traits are esspecially troublesome for me)

    • @pensword7108
      @pensword7108  7 років тому +1

      papapok13, The character sheet link I provided in my description includes a filled out example sheet to help you out with. It's based on the Protagonist character from this show.
