Scarlet is beautiful and clearly already well on the way to a trust bond with you, great to see how clearly she showed her nervousness and calming down through a new situation! I hope she and Joy bond, it'd be wonderful if having a calm, confident bird companion could help Joy in coping with her anxiety
She’s so lovely! It sounds like she’s had a nice life so far and will hopefully have a nice rest of her life. I’m glad you talk about how happy she was with her previous owners and don’t shame them for giving her up
Please consider feeding scarlet a new pellet! Those mixes with the artificial colored dried kibble are not as nutritionally sound as cold pressed pellets! Fresh vegetable chop everyday is also great for their diet! Your relationship with her would be set up for even more success in the future! You're doing amazing for Scarlet so far and I would love to hear more updates on her :)
Jessi, I've been a fan of your work for some time, and I enjoy seeing all the animals doing their thing, however I would also like to see you "boop" them on their snout or maybe their forehead, if they allow it, of course :) Even if it's just a little tap saying "boop" in a high pitch voice would make my week. Have fun with your day! And stay full of smiles!
Green winged macaws in my opinion are gentle giants. We had one boy named Chaco in our parrot sanctuary and was recently adopted by one of our board members! He was one of very few macaws in our macaw room that I can approach close and hand feed( I am much more a Cockatoo person rather than macaw ) . We recently have got a Catlina macaw named Bearley who is actually a mix between green winged and Blue Gold. He has very serious plucking issue and was very aggressive to me but now he is a lot more tender and can take food from my fingers :)
My parents told me all sorts of stories about their green-wing, Murphy, when I was growing up. They believe he has a heart attack. I didn't realize how big of a bird he was! Wish he was still around/I could have met him. :/
I didnt realize macaws lived that long!!! Shes gorgeous. I hope she gets more comfortable with being an ambassador at some point. Is she comfortable with being petted? Can you even pet birds? 😂❤
Does scarlet imitate sounds and “say” things she’s heard people say around her? How many of your other birds “talk”? Is there a specific group of birds that all speak or is it something that’s on a species-by-species basis? Anything you know about this would be cool to learn!
it's on a birb-by-bird basis. certain species are better or worse at mimicing human speech. African Greys are arguably the "best", some of them capable of learning words to actually communicate, and a budgie held the world record for largest vocabulary (Puck, 1995, at over 1700 words) however budgies mostly seem to just mimic words and phrases more or less randomly. beyond species, it's also a matter of an individual birds' natural aptitude, exposure, training, and other factors. for example, if you don't spend lots of time talking to and around your bird, even if the species is generally good at speaking, your bird is much less likely to pick it up. I can't speak for Scarlet specifically, but articles about the green-wing macaw don't bring up their talking ability, so my assumption is that they would not be strongly predisposed towards it.
@@lauraunderwood265 Yes probably just like they'd make other sounds I'd guess that it's just another sound and they don't know the significance of it being a "human only" word but in not sure just guessing 😂
It really does come down to each individual bird but there are tones of bird species that are capable of imitating human speech and not all of them are even parrots, crows and ravens can imitate speech, they just don't do it all that often. Most of the best talkers fall into two categories: category one is highly intelligent birds like African Greys and Amazon parrots, these birds are capable of using words in context (for example, Alex, a very famous aftican grey, could answer simple math questions and identify objects). Category two includes birds with smaller, rounded (parrot) beaks and dexterous tongues, this includes most parakeets (budgies, quaker/monk parrots, indian ringnecks, conures ect.) and some poicephalus parrots. Parrots with extremely large beaks like the hyacinth macaw or the black palmer cockatoo have the intelligence/mental capability to talk but their large beaks prevent them from being able to talk clearly, many cockatoos are known to go on tantrum rants where it sounds like they're talking but you can't understand a single word their saying because it all gets garbled up in their beaks. From personal experience with my two budgies, my male (Spock) has hundreds of words and imitated sounds in his vocabulary but he's otherwise a very quiet bird, he just talks and mumbles, grinds his beak and chatters quietly all day long, while my female (Sasha) doesn't imitate anything but she is 10X louder than Spock, she likes you chirp, sing and scream all day, she'll scream at her toys and chirp while she's eating, she also calls for Spock constantly (even though they live together), if he doesn't respond vocally to her, she'll go into a screaming fit.
Laura Underwood My bird talks 10X more when he thinks no one is listening, the moment I leave the room he starts talking to his toys. He talks a lot when I'm around too (we talk back and fourth a lot: Me: "Spock, where did I put my socks?" Spock: "Kiss kiss, tickle tickle, good boy! Love you buddy!") but if someone unfamiliar enters the room, he'll stop talking immediately.
She also hasn't been wearing her wedding band since the "Our Two Porcupines: Kemosabe & Kizmit" video. I don't know why I didn't notice before his removal from the intro though- I always thought it was a really unique ring, but it's a personal matter altogether.
Here's to hoping things work out really well between the two. And when it does, we will be back here to meet & greet Joy Jr. BTW I hope Zoe is doing great! Keep up the great work guys o/
Hey Jessi! She’s such a beautiful example of psittacidae! I hope she fits in well with the aviary at Animal Wonders. What does the 46 on the Montana on your shirt stand for?
Dream bird:Blue and Gold Macaw My first bird which I'm getting in a month or so:Green Cheek Conure Am I excited? ABSOLUTELY thank you for all your amazing videos
Hey, Animal Wonders, I recently rescued a ball python and he is quite agressive(trying to bite me whenever I walk past his enclosure). How can I try to stop this behavior?
It sounds like they might be either really hungry, or scared and defensive. Make sure they have a large enough enclosure that they can fully get away from the front and completely hide. Sometimes snakes will sit at the front of their enclosure and glass surf or strike when they're looking for a meal. If the snake isn't hungry then giving them a larger enclosure with multiple hides is what I would recommend.

Why is Agusto not in the intro
fluffed feathers and preening is a sign she's comfortable. My parrot does it all the time when she's chilling.
What a beautiful and majestic creature, a true wonder of the Earth. The macaw, too.
How cute!
Green Wing Macaws are the best! They have powerful beaks but they will never bite your fingers off, because they prefer Brazil nuts.
Beautiful!
