Well done. Those were some serious girdling roots.

Wow the girdle left on the trunk shows exactly what girdling roots do, those were huge.

The bigger question is why you wait so long to get rid of these roots?

We took care of them pretty quickly after first meeting with the property owner. The trees were not properly tended to when they were planted. The encircling roots were likely present at time of planting. It would have been quick and easy to fix at that time if whoever planted them knew what they were doing. Or it would be even better yet if nursery practices didn't cause their development in the first place.

Holy sht. At what point do you have to worry about the tree becoming unstable or needing a kick stand lol. That was a damn mess.

I’m worried my tree will fall on somebody’s house after doing this

Fortunately, these were nowhere near a structure. But they are no more likely to fall after we did this. In the long-term, this will make them less likely to snap off at that point.

You need to clean up your tools. They’re nasty.

Working in the mud for a few hours will do that. We didn't set out that day intending to make a video...was an idea towards the end of the day. But, yeah...tool clean up certainly adds time to a job like this one!
