Should probably stress this since some people are misinterpreting what I'm saying;
In this video I rarely talk about game quality or my thoughts on certain games which has caused people to assume I hate everything that has come out of the "The Meta Era" when it's quite the opposite, Colours and Generations are some of my favourite Sonic games and I think even Lost World is a ton of fun. I moreso just hate the impact they had on the brand and what Sega did as a response to their success.
The writers are also not to blame! If Sega didn't like what the writers were doing then they would tell them to change it. Colours' writers have a boss who told them what to do and they were just fulfilling their wishes, same with Aaron Webber, he is not to blame at all, he's just doing his job and trying to have a bit of fun.

I'm one of the few that enjoys lost world, and alongside most folks enjoyed Mania and Generations.
But the way SEGA is treating the series inside and outside of the games, to the point where the games at their very best will never come close to their potential because of those lovely mandates.
It's hard to respect the series when it no longer respects itself, it's creator's intentions and it's fans.
In favour of shallow pandering, especially towards pop-media critics and this bizarre hatedom this series has gained.

Even if nothing happens, they no longer have an excuse to play stupid, and people can realize this franchise was genuinely worked upon and cared for once upon a time.

@FlyingDead L Well- Sega isn't necessarily "Struggling" they've got plenty of absolutely fantastic games (Yakuza and Bayonetta are some of the first to come to mind). It'd be more accurate to say Sonic Team or just the Sonic Franchise that's having difficulty

Though I understand that it didn’t have much as the other games. For me his personality in that game was not to run away but to run towards the problem, like the speech he gave Alene. Its kind of ironic that the "dark age" of the sonic series was also sort of a peak in terms of Sonic's character. Even in a generally disliked game like 06, I still felt that his character genuinely changed into something great. He was down to earth, and was humorous whenever he felt like he needed to be. hell, even in the worst case scenario, he still saw a bright side in things and somehow manages to make things right.
Despite all the weird and silly ideas that weren't like Sonic at all, his character was the most Sonic it ever was.
They may have been bad/mediocre games, but they did have the best depiction of sonic’s character ever written.(06 to a lesser extent)

Unleashed sonic was personally my favorite (ironically to me it’s the last game we had the sonic we know and love) BUT YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. Sonic felt like a character that was here to stay and his personality could never move. But nowadays his character is so memey

I never seen any clips from the "fairy tale/story board" Sonic games like secret rings and black knight before, I think I may like that portrayal of Sonic even more than his adventure days. What I like most about it is his wisdom and maturity or atleast advanced maturity from previous entries, a lot of that has to do with Jason's voice direction for Sonic as it sounds like he has aged and learned somethings along the way, I want to see more of that.
Really wonder how that Greek Mythology game would have turned out.
@@koichidignitythief7429 I can maybe imagine some stuff looking similar in design to Marble Zone from Sonic 1. I'm not exactly sure what the level's aesthetic was based off of, but the thought of running through architecture similar to it in 3D would be cool. Maybe have something similar to the Wisps be introduced to link back to the various Greek Gods and Goddesses? Lightning dash for Zeus, stuff like that.

I loved Sonic's voice in those games and Unleashed. He sounds way more mature, like he's grown up. Maybe Sega should've changed his official age at that point to 16 or something.

I was actually going to diagree with this comment, but now that I think about how Forces turned out, you might be right.
Instead of trying to focus on one solid Modern gameplay style throughtout, they instead tried to cater to the mainstream crowd with the Avatar and nostalgiabait with classic.
Instead of getting a serious story that would fit the premise, we got a mess that tried to be extremely lighthearted and serious at the same time and ended up falling flat on its face on both ends. After all, we can't have take ourselves *too* serious again, because that's the reason why people disliked 06's and Shadow's narratives, not because they're poorly written, paced and rectonned the shit out of previous games.
And don't even get me started on the mess that is the music direction. It seems like they really had no fucking clue what to do with this title.
Or even alternatively, give people what they want but still add something unexpected. When everyone wanted the Mario 64 formula back for 3D Mario, they made a game like it but at the same time added so many things that nobody would’ve ever asked for.
If they just had a small starting point from fan interest and took it a good direction from there it would turn out better

What’s also really interesting on this one is that the Mario 64 formula is absolutely nothing like the 2D Mario formula. 3D Land and World were 3D versions of the 2D formula, but the majority of the fanbase came to the conclusion that they liked the 64 to Galaxy version better because it was more interesting and played it less safe.

I kinda find it funny how Mario and Sonic sort of switched roles recently.
You mentioned how Sonic's character had been growing more one note and less nuanced as time went on (unfortunately), and while I love his portrayals in even more flawed games (Sonic 06 notwithstanding), you're right that making Sonic just a Mario Clone or a mishmash of Fanservice and Meta Humor isn't the best set of action to take.
Mario's been evolving ever so slowly, after 3D World. Nintendo's been giving him a bit more character. It's nothing mind breaking or dramatic, but Mario isn't just a smiling face. Super Mario Odyssey and Luigi's Mansion 3 have shown the Mario cast having more of a chemistry with one another.
I'm not trying to say Mario is better than Sonic.
I'm fans of both, I just think that the fact even Nintendo is sort of taking notes from how Sonic USED to act is kinda ironic considering Sega is doing the opposite of that.
I still want to see a Mario game that harkens back to the time he had a Brooklyn accent.

Sega is the kind of company that has a shit ton of potential, but refuses to use it, either out of fear, sheer incompetence, just generally missing the mark, or all three. And sonic doesn't deserve to be dragged downward by it by people who don't know what to do with sonic since everyone apparently everyone has a different vision of what the franchise should be. I get that Sega has other more critically and financially successful franchises under their belt and that "Sega would be fine without sonic", but when you think about it, Sega wouldn't be the same without the blue blur. Sega would just be another Japanese video game company with nothing really special about them outside of video games.
If I was head of Sega I would make a new phase or Sonics future, kicking off with Sonic Adventure III
The problem with sega is their time products,they always pressure their employees to products at the time they're set with no delay whatsoever,reason why Sonic boom:Rise of Lycis failed because Sage pressuring them to product few months after trailers even the developer said they need more time to do this so they have to cut quite alot of abilities that show in the trailer and only products on one console which is vita(one of the least played on mordern console).

YUP. I don't know how they do it, but man, I can search up just about any Sonic game and enjoy the whole OST. My favorite part about this fact and the fact SEGA is fine with fan-work is that this leads to even MORE incredible music, like Sonic Before the Sequel and After the Sequel. These OSTs are amazing and stand up next to the best in the official series and I listen to them in my daily life a lot. Some more semi-obscure OSTs that people should check out:
-Sonic 3D Blast Genesis
-Sonic Robo Blast 2
-The FEW tracks there are of Sonic 2 HD

Though Forces has some iffy music. I like Sonic's stages but the OG has only acceptable music and Classic Sonic's sounds dreadful. But Shadows is good. Seriously should have made it Shadow 2 instead as Shadow fit the story better than "nothing beats the power of teamwork eh partner?"

I don't want to be that guy, but after a certain point if that becomes the only thing you can say is consistent it starts to matter less. Sure, the music is always nice but the most important thing in the end is the game.
well actually, the term "meta Era" comes from the idea that Sonic Team's approach over the last decade seems to be listening way way way too much to its fanbase, trying to course correct from what they did last time, but going way overboard. In other words, they're focused on the meta of the series and appealing to that rather than focusing on making a quality product
The Sonic Series was doing everything right with the Adventure Games & 06 had a better story than anything we've gotten from the 2010s decade & only suffered from being severely rushed. Black Knight was the last Great Sonic Game, & after that Sega of America gave in to Critics & betrayed the actual fans entirely. The "Just Sonic" mentality was a mistake which only the critics actually wanted. The 3D Boost Formula isn't even sustainable & it still pisses me off that Sega of America threw out everything that actually worked for the series repeatedly & chose to keep the stuff that didn't work for an entire decade.

I'm not saying some of the serious Sonic stories don't have flaws, but serious Sonic stories absolutely can work and it doesn't matter if the villain resembles an egg or if the hedgehog is blue. The classic games are literally metaphors about the destruction of the environment and corruption.
Sonic was serious from the start and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. If it wants to be more light-hearted, it can - and when it wants to be serious, it should embrace it.

I don't get the critics who say games like Unleashed or Black Knight are "anti-sonic". Sonic's character design evokes the classic Disney anthro mascots, and Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck were constantly traveling to nonsense medieval worlds or whatever to fight ancient evils with comically clashing art styles. Sonic vs King Arthur is just as silly as Mickey Mouse battling Satan himself in Fantasia.
If Sonic took his role as a 3 foot naked rodent knight seriously I would get it. But he spends the entire game making fun of it.

Unleashed is my favourite game in the series! The voices and characters were great, and the gameplay was all around pretty good.

Out of all the extremely overused “joke criticisms” ( aka things like the SoNic kIsSiNg a hUmAn???? Argument ) is that Sonic using a car in the Sega racing games/TSR is apparently bad? IT'S A CAR RACE, all contestants are supposed to be in cars. Thus, Sonic in a car makes perfect sense.

It's not really relevant to the video, but here goes:
There's kind of a running joke where OneyPlays will subtly rip on Game Grumps, usually indirectly
They'll talk about how it's stupid to think starting a Let's Play channel needs to involve hiring a bunch of stuffed shirts without really knowing what they do, they've mentioned using emulators and save-states so as to not waste the viewer's time dying over and over again to the same thing, they've mentioned the stupid fan theories about girlfriend-punching (less a jab at the channel itself and moreso the fanbase, but it's still an issue that wouldn't exist if the Grumps has been more transparent)
They've talked about milking a joke past the point of being funny, and then selling a shirt of it, they've riffed on the idea of laughing at the co-host's jokes even if they aren't at all funny, burping whilst recording and not editing it out, and even Wendy's promotions.
Any of that sound familiar?
There isn't really an end to these if you're keyed in. If you're looking for them, I'd say they do it most in the Super Mario Bros 3 LP and the Luigi's Mansion 3 Let's Play I can't really feel sorry for the Grumps here, a then-member of OneyPlays was doxxed by the Game Grumps fanbase specifically because he thought that Dream Daddy was pandering to the LGBT community (he was LGBT, so he'd know more about it than Arin) and the Grumps did absolutely nothing to address the matter. Even his parents were harassed in this.
TLDR: OneyPlays makes fun of Game Grumps sometimes.

@@Kanohoro While I'm not familiar with what Dream Daddy is, I imagine it's one of those silly, tongue-in-cheek dating sims where you get to date UA-cam personalities like that one game that lets you date Bandai-Namco characters that the creator of Homestuck made (namcohigh.klonoa.org/index2.html). While I wouldn't call it pandering to LGBT people (again, I have no idea what the actual game is like), saying so is absolutely no reason to get doxxed for it. That's like doxxing someone for thinking that Boku no Bowser was a waste of time.

i just finished sa2 yesterday, the first time i've REALLY played a sonic game after struggling through bits of the classic collection on the ds when i was younger. i'm coming to appreciate the franchise with all its awkward translations and buggy collision. i'm of the opinion that if the game is fun to play, that kind of stuff doesn't matter so much. who cares if the characters' mouths look like someone fucking with the square tool in ms paint, it's one of the most charming things i've played in a long time

I just think going forward that unless SEGA overhauls everything with their approach to Sonic that he'll stay as the collective punching bag of the gaming sphere forever. You are so right when you bring up their vision of him and the franchise. In the past 2 console generations alone they've flip-flopped, backtracked, forward-tracked, reinvented, and revised the games so much that there is no consistent form of Sonic. It's like every new game is trying to re-establish the universe and just divides fans more and more on what they would want Sonic to be.

Mario is a very expressive and emotional character, he even has more idle animations than Sonic. I wouldn't use "a blank slate" as a way to describe Mario.

That term is defined by completely Sonic 06 and people just... WILLINGLY chose to ignore to fun games around it. Like the Rush games, the rivals games (I'll give a pass to this as nobody had a PSP to play it.) Unleashed, black knight (I'll die on this hill this game was fun) etc, etc, etc.
But at least this has given Sega the time to focus on other IP's and that gave me the yakuza series. So that's neat.

Rush 1 is my favorite game is the series. Its mostly nostalgia and it was my first sonic game, but the music and gameplay is so goood
A big contributor to Sonic’s loss of identity is that his FRIENDS had THEIR identities stripped from them. In the Genesis games, they were clearly built using Sonic as a base, but also had their own skills, histories and personalities. Adventure 1 honored the old identities while also giving them gameplay goals that fit their story roles. Adventure 2 was when things first slipped as instead of the story defining the gameplay, the reverse happened. Tails was jammed into a mech to match Eggman and Knuckles’s shard hunting gameplay was reused, and since SA2 was a smash hit, their SA2 gameplay became their new standard, which meant that in the future, Sonic’s friends would be defined mostly by being TOTALLY DIFFERENT from Sonic instead of having a chance to be similar to him a la the Genesis template. Being totally unique from the main character isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but Tails and Knuckles, _Sonic’s closest partners,_ were retroactively affected by this: Tails is no longer about speed even though it’s supposed to be a fixture of his character as his real name expresses, and while Knuckles retained his physicality, he’s relegated to item finding instead of being able to traverse rough paths. Their potential got neutered. Also, Amy and Rouge got stonewalled and Cream got totally sidelined. Now only Shadow and Blaze are remotely similar to Sonic, with the former becoming the series’s new secondary icon.
… And the backlash to ‘06, which only knew those butchered versions of the side characters, got them decommissioned, which meant that Sonic had to do everything on his own. So Sonic Team made him into a total Mary Sue, and eventually stopped developing his character as well.
I think the problem really is consistency, you have to remember Mario and Zelda had the CDI games and people love to make fun of them but they aren't brought up as "this is why mario sucks" because on a whole when Nintendo puts out a product with that IP it is going to be at least better than mediocre. With Sega as a whole, not just sonic, while one game may be fantastic ala Sonic Mania, the very next game will have very muddled ideas and gameplay ala Sonic Forces.
Unfortunately, this kinda taints most Sega IPs, where a great game is seen as an outlier instead of the norm.
The only Sega property I can think of that actually is consistent in tone and quality is the Yakuza franchise and now that is a flagship property for the company.
Sega also has Virtua Fighter which is the most deep and complex fighting game series of all tine.
They've made a bunch of quality games. It's just Sonic has been burdened with ups and downs since Sega dropped out of the hardware business.

The funny thing is that this whole community rant of "Sonic has lost is way" happened way back in 2008, 2 years after 06 released. Fastforward to 2020 - 3 years after Sonic Forces released - and now the discussion is being brought back. This mass fan backlash is just one big cycle. I'm sure that if Sega listens to this fan backlash and "fixes Sonic", the generation that grew up with the Sonic that was despised is going to want that Sonic back.
And it also affects the reputation of Sonic games. After 06 released, people were criticizing the Adventure games for supposedly leading up to "the current state of Sonic." Now fans are criticizing Colors and Generations for leading to "the current state of Sonic". And I'm sure that the generation that is growing up with Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania, and the Sonic movie are going to be doing the same.
One final thing: All the best Sonic games released at the start of a new decade ;).

Agreed, this is the lowest era in Sonic history. It has been 3 years since the last Sonic game and it was only meh, not incredible and only passably okay. And Sonic's personality has broken to bits today. I hate the new personality Sonic has and I agree, Unleashed and Black Knight have the best acting Sonic ever had with him feeling real and not forced. Unfortunately those two games failed because the gameplay wasn't what people wanted so they rewrote the book on everything. I don't want Sonic to be a warped Mario anymore, I never did, just make him a normal person again and it will be great.

The fact that the ending music to Sonic Adventure 2 is able to be so goosebump-inducing and tender after you just played as two anthropomorphic hedgehogs, one blue one black (except they were transformed into yellow and creamy beige respectively at the time) fighting a gigantic lizard which is related to the latter hedgehog through experiments being sourced from murals in an ancient palace featured in a game made seven years prior and oh yeah the latter hedgehog also dies at the end asking in spirit a dead 8 year old child who got shot by a paranoid sect of the military if he did the right thing... it shows that despite its absurdity, at one time, Sonic could fully suspend your disbelief and let you bathe in its world. I hope one day we can return to those golden times.

After Jason and the rest of the 4-Kids cast left the decline just slowly started rolling in, the writing staff changed to people that barely knew a thing about Sonic which ruined the stories one of the main reasons I stood with the franchise over Mario when I was younger, the characters personalities were also butchered since the staff didn't know who they were writing for and how to portray said character. And maybe this is a nitpick but I much more prefer the Unleashed art style over anything that we have seen since, I just like the more realistic environments and shading over the bright colorful worlds lol

There was an era between 2012 and 2017 where most of Mario's games were bland and mediocre, apart from 3D World and Mario Kart 8 which were actually good. You got two uninspired New Soup games, the incredibly insulting modern Paper Mario games, and other Mario games which were as vanilla as possible, the worst being Mario Tennis Ultra Smash which many people call the worst Mario game (other than the educational games and Hotel Mario). There was a return to form when Odyssey released.
@@dannys8014 I think the difference there is that none of those mediocre or bad Mario games are part of the main platforming series, which has always been of a consistently high quality. I mean, what's the worst Mario platformer? Sunshine? Lost Levels? None of them have been anywhere near as bad as the worst Sonic platformers. Plus none of those spinoffs were broken disasters like '06, were more bland and lackluster more than anything, and have been mostly forgotten unless you are an old school Paper Mario fan angry at the direction the franchise has gone in (which I certainly am for the record). None of those are memorably bad enough to really define that era, so if you were to bring up that era of Mario to most people, their mind is probably going to jump to 3D World, MK8, Mario Maker and maybe Mario Bros. U (which was solid if uninspired) and not Ultra Smash which is a forgettable spin off.
If a mainline Mario platformer had been as bad as the worst Sonic platformers, then maybe you could have had an era like that, but the reality is that lackluster spin-offs don't really affect the quality of the franchise in the public's eyes that much, even a bunch at once. To show this with Sonic, I rarely see Sonic Free Riders brought up in conversations about the worst Sonic games, despite the fact that it's controls are unplayably broken, and it is probably worse than 06 and Boom. But it was a spinoff for the Xbox Kinect, so nobody cares or remembers it.

i've read them and in my spheres receptions mixed, i wouldn't say they're bad, just the best thing in years which is still just above mediocre, has good concepts but still falls back on things fans were sick of like the zeti.

Watching this video after Frontiers has been out for a while, it made me understand why I liked Frontiers so much. It wasn't pandering, before release they flat out said "Fans don't yet understand what this new gameplay is" which is the most confident thing they've said in years. It's the first Sonic game in a while that feels like it was made with a vision from Sega instead of trying to check boxes that fans want. When you talk about Mario Sunshine and how it's a game with flaws that misses the mark at times, but still feels Mario, I think that's what Frontiers accomplished.

While I felt that Unleashed Sonic was a bit too tame and mellow, I think Black Knight Sonic is easily the best iteration of Sonic’s character with SA2 and Secret Rings being close seconds. He still had that famous Sonic cockiness and snarkiness, but actually had some depth and nuance to his character other than those two character traits. In particular, Sonic’s love for freedom, strong sense of justice, and heart of gold.
I will never understand people that praise Roger’s/2010 Sonic man. What is appealing about stripping all the traits that made Sonic such a great character and flanderizing him to an egotistical clown who never shut’s up?
Remember how almost every Sonic character went through a character arc because Sonic being himself was enough to change the people around him for the better?
I miss the cocky yet heroic Sonic from black knight, he felt like a actually person with depth and heart, who cared about others around him and was never afraid to do the right thing.

Hussain Abdullah Idk about that, suddenly giving modern sonic the movie personality would seem way off considering the fact that his voice actor sounds really old and wouldn’t fit the young personality, plus he acts less childish than movie sonic (aside from stupid dad jokes).

They were kinda cheap and petty shots in my opinion. Let me explain. I'm a fan of both Game Grumps and LS Mark and I know that there are people that are amused and entertained by Game Grumps and there are also people who are amused and entertained by LS Mark and I just happen to fall into both categories. I think both these channels are really good and I find enjoyment in them one way or another, however the fact that one is at the throat of the other with more hatred than a human being should have towards another human being makes me sick. So maybe you don't agree with the choices of someone else and their brand however you shouldn't let that anger boil so much that it turns into vicious hatred of another person who's just doing his job in a way that some people find entertaining. Like I said I'm a fan of both these channels but I didn't know I had to choose one to like and hate the other.
I hate the cop out argument of “it’s about a fast blue hedgehog and they want us to take it seriously?” You can say that about anything. Batman is a man dressed as a bat solving mysteries, but our suspension of disbelief can overlook that and look at this world with the same seriousness the characters in the world do.
Just learning about this while most of the now general populous mainly leaning towards the sides of making fun of sonic and saying his games were never good, also I think mania is overrated and is a good game by 90 standards. I feel it’s reputation for being the “BeSt SoNiC GaMe In YeArS AnD WaS Is BeTter ThAn AnYtHiNg SoNiC TeAm CoULD EvEr MaKe”feels very forced with such public authority. Sonic Team has created this franchise, they have proven they can make higher quality and budget titles.
Also I hate how almost every character has been turned into such an 1 or 2 dimensional stereotype that will barely do anything for the story or any other characters.

I wasn't really a Sonic fan up until later last year. I played the classic games and Mania cuz my cousin had got me familiar with them, but I was never fully hooked. Then a friend of mine who I deeply respect and is a big Sonic fan asked me if I would like to play Sonic Adventure 1. She would talk about the best parts of these games, but she was actually a bit hesitant on asking me to play. To her surprise I immediately said yes since I love spending time with her and tbh we just finished making our scenes for Sonic Rebuilt at that time. She would try to talk a lot of good but then try to tone it down and say that "You might not like it idk." Honestly I knew she was worried since she probably expected me to repeat a lot of stuff most people say about this game, but honestly I had fun playing the game. I knew it was old and it wasn't gonna be perfect, hell I did my best to break the game, but I had genuine fun nonetheless. So far I've beaten 3 stories (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) and I want to beat the other three soon (we play the game together so we both have to find time to play), but because of her and the fact that I helped make Sonic Rebuilt in a small way, I'm now a fan of the series... So in turn I now know my friend's pain when it comes to the later games. Watching this video solidifies my feelings that Sonic can work if they just did what they wanted rather than listening to the fans. Other than that it also made me a bit emotional since playing Sonic Adventure with her will probably be one of my most cherished memories

I too have felt this way about Sonic for a while, ever since... Lost World or Boom I wanna say. The last Sonic game I got excited for that wasnt Mania was Lost World and... I didnt like it. I got a little excited for Boom but got cautious since hurr durr Sonic Cycle and all that. Mania was really good as a casual fan of the Genesis quadrilogy but I vastly prefer the 3D titles, and I'm glad you called out people who believe in the whole "Sonic had a rocky start into 3D" bullshit when that's not even close to being true. But now with the horrible writing being taken to its logical extreme with Forces, I had to draw the line somewhere. Unrelated but I never knew the Sonic Boom cartoon writers had little to no experience with Sonic yet managed to make something funnier than ANYTHING Pontac and Graff have ever worked on. Really opened my eyes on how bad of writers they truly are.
Those clips you showed of Unleashed and Black Knight really sold me back on how great of a character Sonic was becoming. Out of context they're a little silly (especially the Black Knight clip) but it doesn't take away the fact these games had a soul, and now that soul is gone. The fact that most Sonic Team developers left to work for Nintendo says a lot (and would explain that rolling move Mario had in Odyssey lmao), and look at how they made a Mario and Zelda people are still talking about, with the latter getting an anticipated sequel. Which reminds me... sorry to hear your interest in most vidya is dwindling overtime. Getting older can suck, but I hope you could play a game that could reinvigorate that spark that isn't Sonic. Might I suggest Yakuza 0 that you mentioned in the video earlier? That's a fantastic game that knows it's a game yet knows how to tell a deep and compelling narrative that made me cry in a lot of instances, with great minigames to boot.

Seeing people lambast sonic games for trying to be dark because "they're games starring a chili dog eating hedgehog, a two tailed fox, and a fat scientist" while turning around and praising *MARIO* games that have dark stories like the first galaxy game, partners in time, thousand year door, and super paper is one of the biggest examples of hypocrisy i've ever seen in my life.

i have no idea about the EU, but the fault in the disney trilogy seems to lie squarely with lucasfilm's leadership, since it was them that made most of the creative decisions. disney just ... let it happen, expecting marvel bank and enthusiasm. instead, they got mediocre profits and old fan derision, with new fans who were mostly lost by the last movie. when fans who were around in pre-disney times complained, they were generalized by the people who worked on the disney trilogy as bigots and fanboys. and when people who did not give a shit about the franchise to begin with criticized the films, they were also called bigots and fanboys, despite that obviously not being the case.
i think the series is in its worst straits, worse than when they were being roundly mocked in the mainstream for the bizarrely executed prequels, since, similar to sonic, its very identity has been called into question as the events of the disney trilogy upturns all the accomplishments of the cast in the original trilogy, but not in a dark, ACTUALLY subversive way, and more of just so that they could essentially call the original cast losers and have the new cast re-do the events of the original trilogy.
