How fantastic! Well done proven winners 😊 Let's hope everyone else follows in your footsteps to a greener plastic free world 🥰 thank you for helping reduce plastic waste
I’ve always picked Proven Winners plants first at my local Tagawa Gardens here in Colorado because of how well your plants grow over others. Now having eco friendly pots is like the icing on the cake! I hope other growers take your lead as an example.
Probably best to take the plants out of the container before planting. I doubt the pot will break down fast enough. Also, I’m going to start hoarding the white plastic pots before they’re all discontinued. Lol I like them best for reusing.
Can't wait to get my proven winners for the season, definitely hoping these work aa I try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Thanks for offering them.
Finally the plant industry is making a critical change! Where do we get them. I’m loving this. I have a desperate loathing for plastic…in the garden even more
Hi Dansza, All our grande containers on provenwinnersdirect.com will be sold in these. You should also also be able to find them at most garden centers that sell Proven Winners plants.
Loved the 'idea', LOATHE the actual pots. I have had them break plants in hand, causing my plants & dirt to fall to the ground damaging the plant and making a mess. Also I found the pots themselves do not break down as quickly as is alluded to, albiet its only been one growing season for me so far. Lastly, I felt the plants in fact did not thrive as well as previous years and Im a master gardener, not that I havent made my share of mistakes. One final thought - I am curious what type of corn, beet (even your nutrient source) etc is used in the creation of these containers - any GMO, synthetics at all? I've cleared out my soil area and hope to see improvement in that vego bed with this next planting.
I love the concept on these but I didn’t have a good experience with these pots. I lost several plants and when the wind blew them over it just broke into pieces with a huge mess to clean up. It wasn’t a seamless process while planting 50-100 plants trying to get them out of the pots was a challenge and time consuming. I really thought they would be cool to use but I just didn’t have a good experience with them. Also, one of the biggest reasons I love PW is the quality plants and used to have quality pots that could withstand a lot of pressure, reusable, didn’t crack open like regular blk nursery containers. Also, I had received in the mail about 10 completely cracked containers which caused a huge mess when pulling out of the box, from a really high quality retailer which I don’t believe it was their fault at all it’s the flimsy pots. Just wanted to give my experience, sorry it wasn’t a great one cuz I would love to decrease waste of plastic too.
Hi Jennifer, I’m so sorry to hear that! They are certainly not as strong as the traditional plastic pots, but there is beauty in the breakdown, as that is what we want them to do. It’s certainly a learning curve that we are all experiencing together! Many gardeners remove the plant from the container, as they would a traditional plastic pot, and add the Eco+ Grande to their compost or break it up and amend it in their soil. You certainly don’t want to waste the good nutrients they have to offer! I’m going to try planting them a few different ways this season to experiment. 😊 If you give them another try, we’d love to continue hearing about your experience!
Hello, Jennifer. So nice to you! Looking forward to finding the Eco containers at the garden centers. Should we expect an increased cost in purchasing these? Thanks for all that you do!
@@Provenwinnersdirect Thanks for responding! I wonder if maybe tweaking the pot material to withstand more pressure so they don’t break so easily. Looking forward to a new garden season and I’ll keep trying them. 😊
@@Jdadkins6198 Absolutely! Proven Winners is taking an incredible lead in innovation with these containers and I'm so excited to see the transformation. I'm certain this is the first of many rollouts to improve our experience. Spring cannot come soon enough!!!
This is so great PW is going green! I'm just worried that the roots will just continue to twist inside the compostable container. I know, I can take them out and plant as usual but I'm just putting logic to the idea. It takes 90 days or so depending on the weather conditions of heat and moisture for it to break down. I bought perennials to plants so it's ok to still plant in the ground? I'm a very novice grower and don't want to spend a lot of money if the plants don't survive. Am I the only one who's thinking this? I'm really not criticizing, I just want to make sure they survive. Thank you so much for your help.
Those are great thoughts! As with all innovation, the Eco+ containers will continue to improve based on experience and we always welcome feedback to help us in those efforts. To alleviate any concerns for root growth, we recommend gardeners to plant as they normally would with a traditional pot, by removing the plant entirely. You can then add the Eco+ container to your compost if you have one or at a local industrial composting facility, or simply throw in the garbage as it will break down infinitely faster than a traditional pot!
Great question, Linda! The cost of our annual grandes have gone up by $1. As a gardener myself, I certainly consider the cost, being I want to buy all the pretty flowers! The part I like about these containers is that they provide additional nutrients to my soil that may help me save on the cost of fertilizer. We've conducted studies on our annuals planted in the Eco+ containers, planted normally without fertilizer, and planted normally with fertilizer. The results have shown that those planted in the Eco+ are consistent in growth and color as those planted normally with fertilizer. We are certainly learning as we go, but that's what I love about gardening! 😊
I will be removing the plants from the pots. No way are roots going to penetrate these pots fast enough to make headway quickly. Nice that they are compostable.
Hm! Well I guess those new pots are an explanation to the price increase. Not sure how I feel about it though. Guess I would rather pay less, keep and re use the plastic pots for seedlings than the new concept. $10.99 and up for one annual is steep for the average gardener
I agree about the price! I try so hard to only buy PW when on markdown. This year I have managed to overwinter some of the calibrachoa and petunia from last summer.
Great question! They will probably break down a bit faster if buried/amended, as the combination of heat and moisture is what does the trick. But I don't see any reason to not give it a try! The nutrients will be great for your plants either way! 😊
I planted my Supertunia’s in those pots last year right in the ground and the died and I’ve never lost a Supertunia before November in zone 8a Georgia. So, I purchased more replanted them out of the pots and they lasted until December, but maybe I did something wrong!

@@Provenwinnersdirect This season that is what I will do, being that most of the PW annuals will come in compostable pots; which is a great new concept!
Loving this new and easy concept of amending/helping my clay soil! Can’t wait to start amending! GREAT to see your smile again garden friend!
Thank you, DS! 😊Please keep us posted on your experience with the Eco+ containers!
Absolutely love these pots, can’t wait for spring .Thank you Proven Winners .
These pots broke down for me. I just tilled up my bed and I only found one small chunk that hadn't broken down. Glad to see this change.
Dear friend Have a great and happy evening. Nice overview of pots and containers benefits liked 6 🌺

I reuse mine, too, Erin! I especially like them for scooping soil from the bag when I'm planting up my containers 😉

Love It 🤗🌸💕
Very good to know
I am curious… what parts of the corn and sugar beet pants are being used to make these pots?
Hello Mary! The stalks and roots go through a fermentation process that leads to plant-based pellets! 😊
Loved and shared!
Thank you, Faith! 💚
The labels too?I would like to know before I break them up
