Man, your videos are so good with detail and exhaustive information that they should be used as some *_Historical Archive of Light Guns_* for the gaming community, current and future. Great job again, Boojakascha! I have always been a fan of the Walther P99 because of its perfect ergonomic fit, and I didn't previously know about this lightgun, but I will now be hunting one down to possibly use as a DIY-mod body donor to fit the Dreamcast DreamBlaster lightgun components in to. Thanks again.
Thank you so much @SwankeyMonkey, kind words like this keep me going on! Using the shell for a Dreamcast gun is a splendid idea! Please remember to keep us updated on your progress on this! =)
Absolutely. I'm certain I read somewhere that 8BitDo or Retro-bit, or some retro gaming company like this was making a wireless Lightgun for the Genesis. I think THIS is really where it is at for wireless retro-controller makers-- to make the lightguns wireless. Though, with CRT TVs becoming fewer and fewer, they probably don't see much of a market potential and profit in making these. But if they are, I eagerly await the making of some good Saturn and Dreamcast wireless lightguns, at the very least the opportunity to use the wireless guts to put into a preferred gun housing.
Great review bro 👍 I found this gun on eBay for £10 without a pedal. I bought it based off your recommendation and it is definitely the best third party gun I have used. Do you think any switch connected with the jack could work as a pedal?
I just bought one of these P99L's off ebay for £20 as I used to have one years ago. However it doesn't have any printed text or logo at the front of the barrel like the rest I have seen on the market, I was worried I just bought a knock off (of a third party gun, that's silly). You've put my worries away, I must have the Zero Force Laser. Thanks for the detailed video my man.
Glad I could help =) Yes, often light guns all come from the same factory but were distributed by different companies, with their logo slapped on them. The only oddball I can think of for the P99L is the "Marxman" by DreamGear. It's not bad at all, but slightly different. Tomorrow I will release a video on the "Universal Marxman" which is more like the P99D2 ;-)
First of all, love your informative videos. You’ve been a great help when knowing what light gun to buy. I recently got a Laser Blaster P99L and it seems to working very well when calibrating the gun in Time Crisis 2. However, as soon as I start playing I can’t seem to hit anything. I have no idea why this happens, with my G-Con2 there’s no problem hitting the targets. I’ve tried disassembling the gun but unfortunately I can’t seem to figure out how to remove the top to separate the gun into its two halves. It sounds as if there’s something loose in the gun. Most likely this is the laser but I just want to make sure it’s nothing else. I know this is a vague error description but any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you very much for your feedback! =) I am glad you like the content. You could try two things: - Try to crank the brightness of the screen way up. Maybe the gun needs more light than what you are used to. - Be sure to disable the force feedback. It shouldn't affect anything, but I have seen some broken guns, where the force feedback circuitry was corrupted and degraded accuracy and precision. Let us know if one of those suggestions helped =)
Boojakascha thank you for the swift response. I tried increasing the brightness but it only worked for the first part of stage 1 I.e. the hotel room. However, as I moved closer I noticed that I could get it to work better. So by sitting closer than I originally did I could get it to work and finished all of stage two without any further issues. Do you think dust in the gun or dirt on the lens could affect this? It’s kind of hard to see when only looking down the barrel.
Yes, dust and dirt will have such an effect for sure. But the design should do a good job preventing dust to creep in. I am a bit confused here, as the P99L shouldn't be as light hungry as yours seems to be. You could try cleaning the lens from outside with window cleaner.
So how did you fix the pedal? I just picked up a P99L and the pedal has the same problem: I keep it held down, buit the game acts like it was just tapped!
I have the PS099L and I love it. But unfortunately the recoil function doesn't work on my PS2 Slim. Have it connected via controller port "AND" USB. I have the feeling that the gun is not getting enough power. Do you have a tip for me?
Does it work on fat consoles and the PS1? It might be that the force feedback power fuse in your slim console tipped. It's a very common problem, sadly.
6:00 What alternative is there to have a pedal with this model? I have a traditional light gun pedal, and if it doesn't require more expertise, I would like to use it somehow. Or is there maybe a separate device with a joystick port or maybe an adaper? I'm pretty clueless what would be the best option.
I think it would be best if you drill a hole in the heel and insert a TS socket yourself. If you prefer something external: Any controller will work for the TC like games. There are pedals which act as full blown controller, like shown here in episode 235: ua-cam.com/video/XfK4NrBGFC8/v-deo.html Of course you could insert the TS socket also to a controller, rather to the gun. But this would limit you to TC style games.
@@Boojakascha Unfortunately, I don't have the dexterity to install the jack port myself. But I will watch the video you mentioned. Would it be possible to operate the pedal from the second joypad port with the help of a Thrustmaster PPK gun?
@@szabo_bakter No, I don't think so. I am afraid it would attain the identity of a second GunCon. Is stepping on a joypad an option to you? Because that would work too! =)
@@Boojakascha I have a defective ps2 controller with broken dpad if it is easyer to mod it with the pedal. It has no use to me anymore and soldering some wires to it from the pedal is maybe something I could manage. How do I know how to solder it right?
If you look at the PCB, you will notice that each button consists of two not-connected patterns. If the rubber button is pressed down, a conductive pad closes those contacts and that's how it works. That means all you need to do is connect a wire to each halve of the contact pair and then solder the other end of the wire to a TS socket. Then you can use the controller with any pedal which has a TS connector =) In theory you can get it to work with wire twisting and tape-ing, but soldering is the best way to do it.
Trying to troubleshoot an issue I have with both my P99L's (Zero Force Laser Gun). The aim with veer off towards the right by about 1cm, and inconsistently shuffle along the horizontal axis. I'm thinking about taking apart the gun to see if I can secure the sensors better; however, I couldn't get the slide off. You managed to get yours off here, was there a trick to it?
There is indeed a trick. You move the slide back and then undo a screw in the very back (put the gun upside down and look into the hollow slide). Sometimes the screw is hidden below a blob of glue. This screw holds a plastic piece which is impeding opening the gun a lot.
@@Boojakascha Yeah, I could lift most of the back slide away, but it'd only do so far as it was sticking half way down the gun, kinda like it was secured by something else.
@@EagleEye5599 You would remove it now by taking it from the rails and pull forewards (towards the barrel). Pry the slide partially off the rail with a spudger.
Is the P99D2 worth getting if you can solder in a new trigger switch? I assume other TS pedals would work on this? I bought the Logic 3 Predator 2 (used) and the trigger is very dissapointing, I don't know if it has been heavily used but the trigger feels mushy with a soft click
Yes, I even like it's shape better. Yes, any TS pedal should work, but you might have to rewire the socket to the button function manually. Besides the trigger you potentially have to work on the conductive pads of the A and B buttons. I am sorry to hear your Predator 2 feels mushy. Luckily the one I have has a really nice trigger :D
I used a vintage Cherry "DC2" which is a mini micro switch. Today Cherry is owned by "ZF Friedrichshafen AG" so you will find switches with different branding too in some cases. Right now, usually ZF still uses the Cherry name and logo though :D
I finally got 2 of these. I am using 2 x B&O MX8000 TVs. My Namcon Guncon 2 can calibrate fine, but the P99L is not able to calibrate at all, it gets the cursor but it is very unstable. Is it due to the "glass" in front of the TV on the MX8000 TVs? Or any other idea? It is connected correctly, and set to guncon 2.
@@Boojakascha Hi Again. i removed the glas, it is called a Contrast filter (I think). I played around with image settings, and seem to have good calibration at around 1-1,5m. I have a dead zone mainly in the left side. But it seem that I can keep the TVs for now :) I do like this gun ! ;) Have you done some TV (CRT) Recommendation or could you consider making a video about it? They are getting harder and garder to come by. The Beovisions are however quite common as they are more a stylish element in most older houses. I rarely see any Sony Trinitrons these days :S Thanks
The whole Beovision line of B&O is outstanding. I have compared several of these with several Sony PVMs and the Beovisions come quite close in quality. Great gear. The Nationaal Video Games Museum in the Netherlands solely relies on Beovisions. What's also good is CRTs made by Loewe. Those sometimes struggle to switch between frequencies (50 and 60 Hz) but generally are great too. B&O levels of quality I would say. In the past I saw a Nokia CRT and that one was lovely too. Maybe a little pinch worse than the Loewe, but still great.
Hi! Fellow (Light)gun nut here! Just got one of these laser sighted ones, the Ps099l, and I'm having some trouble with mine. I own a Guncon, a couple of Guncon 2s and 2 Justifiers and they all work well with my rear projection tv, but this one is shooting everywhere besides where Inpoint it. Is the anything to proper calibrate it?
Are the reload pedals of p99l and ps099d compatible? Any differences in performances? I am asking because I saw lots of logic 3 pedals, are all compatible between logic 3 guns? Thanks
Hi Boojakascha, great video with a lot of detail on the inner workings. I have a P99K light gun I have not used in a few years. I can NOT get the cross hair to appear on the screen. The recoil works and I can hear it fire with the trigger. But nothing visible on the screen to calibrate it. I know its a "gun con 45 compatible only" - I have tried multiple games. (inc Time crisis 2) So I am guessing the laser has broken? Is there any way to fix test of fix it? I would be grateful for any help - thank you
On some guns the laser is just emitted if the gun senses the TV. Have you checked that you use a 50/60 Hz CRT TV with the RCA connector hooked up to something that carries c-Sync? The P99 guns are supposed to support all gun modes (Konami mode, Namco G-Con 45 and 2 modes).
@@Boojakascha Thanks very much for your reply. I have an old but very decent (Bang&Olufson) CRT TV. I am using the G-con45 adapter that came with the gun. Connected through the original RCA hook up plugged into the tv scart socket. (I am not sure) Does that carry c-Sync correctly for this Logic 3 light gun? On the box it states - Plays all G-con45 games. It is working perfectly with the original Gun com 2 guns that connect with usb.
@@Paulsbishop Yes, the adaptor carries c-Sync, you are fine. Beovision MX TVs have a polarisation filter which, for many light guns, leaves too few light. To test you can set the brightness of the TV to the maximum. A permanent solution would be the removal of the filter. You did put the gun mode selector switch to GunCon 1, right?
@@Boojakascha Thanks for your reply, I have tried maximum brightness on the tv now but unfortunately has had no effect. The gun selector has two modes : GUNCON or PSX. In GUNCOM mode everything works with sound and recoil but no cross hair. I also tried PSX which oddly, I can see a slight shadow of a circular curser when the gun is pointed at the screen. (ghost cross hair!?) but all other functions are dead. I will be able to try a similar (no usb) gun I have ordered from ebay to compare it. Also purchased a (PS1 light gun game "original Time Crisis") as all mine are ps2. I can let you know the outcome :-)
@@Paulsbishop But the shots are tracked on screen? Are you really sure you use this light gun and not the one from episode 151? Is your cross hair a red laser dot or a white on screen circle?
Just got a P99L today, bought it right after watching this video. Works flawlessly on my PS2 but my PS1 doesn't detect it all. Anything I should know before plugging it in and turning on the console?
Just to make sure it is set up correctly: You use the PlayStation controller connector and not USB & you have the gun mode set to GunCon 1 or Normal Gun?
@@rossmadibo Please look into the connector. Are all pins the same length? If one pin was pushed back, retract it with tweezers. Also use a toothbrush and window cleaner to clean the pins of the connector
@@Boojakascha Some of the pins are pushed back but I compared them to an original PS1 controller and they are supposed to be like that. I tried the gun on my PSOne and it works in GunCon mode! I have both a PSX and a PSOne. I think I know what the problem is: The 1st controller port on my PSX stopped working some time ago and I had solder a couple of points together bypassing a blown-out fuse. I guess it's that fuse that's making the difference even though I can use an official GunCon. Thanks for you help and the in depth review, really loving this gun!
Thanks a lot! The answer to this is more than yes or no. In some cases the guns even came swapped in the box of the other name. So in a way the names were interchangeable. But also no, because not all guns were 100 Hz compatible and one of the two names (I can't remember which one sadly) was more likely to be 100 Hz compatible than the other.
@@seanythornton1982 Yes, Sir! This is my favorite third party light gun. I don't think you will find a better one. The G/C-2 Light Blaster and the "Wireless Arcade Light Gun" come very close to that, but my heart belongs to the P99L series.
I bought the p99l and had the same problem with the reload button. Do you have a video on how you remapped the reload button to A button? And can a total noob do it?
I don't have a dedicated video, but I show the basics of how buttons work in episode 237 ua-cam.com/video/KBw214VKRa4/v-deo.htmlsi=VHdCfmcRshMz8PEd You just have to solder the two wires of the TS socket to the two halves of the button which you want to control. The order doesn't matter.
@@Boojakascha Works great, but the laser pointer keeps cutting out and only kicks back in if I move the controller drastically. I'm sitting about 1 meter away from the tv and I've tried with both my room light on and off. Any ideas?
@@Boojakascha Playing Time Crisis 3, it always stays on. But with Ninja Assault it keeps cutting out. I believe it may be due to the brightness setting on my crt. I'll see if that fixes it.
Was bidding for a Zero Force DragonPlus listed as "like new" which looks exactly like a logic 3 P99L, it was only 8 dollars with 12 dollars shipping with less than 2 minutes left in the auction. I got really excited and bid for 30 dollars. I was winning and with less than 10 seconds left.. then the snipers pushed the bidding to 51$ +12 shipping. What a heartbreaker, these ebay snipers have taken away my enthusiasm for now. I'll try again in a couple weeks/months to look for another once the motivation comes back, hehe. Damn snipers ruining the enjoyment of finding these rare items.
Dude, what a coincidence! You just posted this video yesterday and here I'm, looking _again_ about this light gun. I purchased this light gun some years ago and it's really amazing I'm now looking to purchase a *second* light gun of this brand/model, but it's really hard to find. What I like the most in this gun is that it's *THREE light guns in one.* You can't play PS1 light gun games with a Guncon 2, so you need Guncon 1 for that, and this light gun works as both. Besides, it also works as a Konami Justifer. If only I could find it for LCD TVs. *EDIT:* My model is the Zero Force Laser Gun. I wasn't aware about the model you're presenting here.
There is a slew of "tripple" light guns, but these are the best I have tested so far =) I will let you know in a comment here as soon as I find similarly good ones! Thanks for sharing your opinion.
@@Boojakascha I have been looking for the P99L here in the states. I see them on ebay but only over seas :( If you get a hold of any more let me know please!
@@Kablazn A P99L just appeared on the Australian ebay (auction number 233177137121). It's even a Dragon Plus. Is Australia any better as shipping source four you?
is there a trick for disassembling this gun? (P99L for PS2) I'd like to solder in a higher quality microswitch, but I can't get the gun to open even after removing the 8 screws
In the back of the slide is a screw, which is only visible if you pull the slide back. In some units a dab of glue is on that screw head. Did you remove that one too?
Hey ben its lou. Still working on the Gamester. Tonight I worked on my joytech sharpshooter 2 (no power) and joytech arcade pro (light sensor off to right) I will check my fixes. I had a question. I need to open my dragonplus zero force, the recoil isnt working. There are screws on face and then the slide caps it's off. When you pull the slide back there is a screw facing upwards. Is that the final screw?
^^ My sharpshooters also barely work... They aged poorly! As far as I remember there is a single screw that pushes a plastic piece onto the inner portion of the slide, which helps it to stay in place. This one screw is often obstructed by a glue dot. After you remove the slide there is another screw beneth that holds the barrel bushing near the lens.
@@Boojakascha ok I will check that out thanks. For the joytech sharpshooters. I got on Ebay, right out of factory sealed package, issues. I swear they sold their defective units haha. My arcade pro had a offset bullet. Opened the gun there is just a light sensor hanging. Not sure if common, I thought they all had a housing. Either magnet or plastic. I made one and it actually seems to work much better. Non guncon is dead on. Guncon is on but for some reason I have a huge dead zone on right hand side. I'm thinking of taking the light sensor from my sharpshooter 2 (which I'm convinced is dead - second question, I'll get back to) and those same 3 wires solder where senor went in arcade pro model. Is there a good way to test is a circuit board is faulty or dead? And for reference/study would you mind sending me pictures of your guns inside, if you have free time, just below faceplate to see if my wiring is same. My gun didnt even have power hooked up. Their the Worst man haha. Thanks ben, keep killin it with the videos brother
@@Boojakascha yeah I have a theory to stay away from the clear plastic packaged joytech devices. I have 1 more joytech coming, its 1 I never seen on ur videos, panther arcade, their on ebay right now, the guys have 8 of them for sale, cool as hell looking and different then the normal "silver sharpshooter 1 with fake recoil slide". I had them open mind after purchase to take a picture so I knew it wasnt a different color or something knowing my luck. Yeah if you could, the sharp shooter 2, if you have time, this one has the main the long board on top. If you could, flip the board over to show write-in side. Just some close ups of the main wires going into board and general layout. Dont mind the two button boards. Thanks, Im interested to see if I made the right move and compare.

I wish I could find one of these. Where I live, I could pick up a real Walter p99 in less than 45 minutes. The p99L light gun seems quite common in the UK, Western Europe and Australia, but no sellers will ship to the US! That's hilariously ironic, If you think about the respective firearms laws in these nations.
I am sorry to hear that :-( In the US your best chances are the Dragonplus variants (same as the Logic3 ones) and the models from Dream Gear. Sadly the latter are just similar and are actually a bit worse than the ones covered in this episode.
Maybe I’m just stupid, but I’ve got hold of the p99k model and tried to use it on time crisis 2 and it just Doesent work. It makes the gunshot noise but the crosshairs Doesent appear on screen do you have any possible solutions?
I got 2 P99L but only one is legit. I think the second seller ripped me off. He sent a gun with no brand name and the only writing is 0443 at the bottom. Can you confirm if that is a logic 3 P99L? Thanks
Hello You see Logic3 is just one of many distributors. The non-branded or different branded ones are the same controller still, don't worry =) 0443 is just the serial, it doesn't identify the gun. I have both, non-branded and Logic3 ones and both perform excellent :D
@@Boojakascha yeah mine looks like the very first gun you show in that video, does that mean that the ones without logo are P99L and not a cheap clone? Thanks
I had the Logic3 P99D2 as I bought it used from eBay. The seller failed to mention that the C button that's on the left side of the gun was busted, it did not work. And I think Virtua Cop: Elite Edition for PS2 only used the C-button for reloading the gun, so playing it was bad experience.
Any way to make the p99l force feedback quieter? This thing is way too loud. I can hear it across the house. It sounds like somebody smashing a vhs tape. Gives me a freaking headache >< I just turn it off, but I would like it if it was quieter.
Pretty cool ! Thank you for the information :) I bought the first model p99k light blaster logic 3, and its really cool ! But the only game I have to play with the lightgun is Point Blank 3 for the PS1, its an awesome game but I dont think it supports the pedal, so I still dont know if its working '-' I paid 10€ ( 11,09$ ) for my p99k model, do you know a "common" price for these light guns/light blaster ? I wanna know if I overpaid or had a good deal :D You have a cool channel, I subscribed ! =)
Thank you very much! I am glad you enjoy the content! On checking your P99: Does the real A button do anything in PointBlank 3? The pedal should just press A, without any logic, physically. So that's how you could test. It would be a easy fix though, if it wouldn't work. Just open the gun and solder two wires at the button terminals. Price very much depends on the condition. I bought pristine condition ones, often in box. These were more than 10 USD. The loose ones were in the 15-25 USD range which I feels is fair. The most expensive ones I know are the Xbox versions of the P99L.
I noticed with the P99L, that when the force feedback slider was on, the accuracy of the gun would plummet, and some shots don't land center. Almost as if the laser inside was being shaken. Anyone know of a way to fix? Or is that common?
Oh, that's a bummer :-( I don't have this with my units, but in general I have other light guns which will become less accurate and/or get a calibration offset when force feedback is engaged. Can you try to re-calibrate with force feedback enabled? What interests me is whether the zero position gets systematically shifted once, or whether it randomly keeps messing with it.
@@Boojakascha I never considered that the zero position was being shunted. I'll do some more testing and see what happens. I have two P99L's, and they both exhibit the same behavior, where enabling force feedback will sometimes (Not always) make shots land in a random spot around 4cm away from the target. The distance is the same, but the direction of the shift is random, which is fascinating. The Force Feedback on the "Light Shooter" Uzi I have doesn't reduce the accuracy; however, that's since it's a mechanism far removed from the internal components.
Yes. I like it a lot. It is my favorite small form factor light gun. It feels more toy like, and less well built, but it is accurate and precise and the trigger is nice.

Generally you can differentiate between motor driven and solenoid driven. Usually solenoid driven ones need more electronic power but are stronger. But there are exceptions and examples where the opposite is the case. If you want a good gun template to tinker with and do something DIY the Chinese copies of the Time Crisis guns (TC1, TC3 and TC5) are candidates, if you don't want to sacrifice working guns. Similarly there are 3D printable templates. Another route would be to get a broken for-parts unit of a vintage light gun and convert it. The P99L, Falcon, Desert Eagle, XK21 and the Avenger Pro come to mind. I don't like the Jolt Gun much. I bought it based off your recommendation and it is definitely the best third party gun I have used.
Do you think any switch connected with the jack could work as a pedal?
Thank you =)
Yes, any switch that terminates in a TS jack :D
I just bought one of these P99L's off ebay for £20 as I used to have one years ago. However it doesn't have any printed text or logo at the front of the barrel like the rest I have seen on the market, I was worried I just bought a knock off (of a third party gun, that's silly). You've put my worries away, I must have the Zero Force Laser. Thanks for the detailed video my man.
Glad I could help =)
Yes, often light guns all come from the same factory but were distributed by different companies, with their logo slapped on them. The only oddball I can think of for the P99L is the "Marxman" by DreamGear. It's not bad at all, but slightly different. Tomorrow I will release a video on the "Universal Marxman" which is more like the P99D2 ;-)
You sound like The Terminator, will you be reviewing the phased plasma rifle with a 40watt range? 😎👍
The melody and tempo get more natural in the later episodes^^
You could try two things:
- Try to crank the brightness of the screen way up.
Boojakascha I’ll give it a shot. I also have some lens cleaning stuff for photography so that might come in handy.
@@mkn_retrogamer I hope for the best =)
So how did you fix the pedal? I just picked up a P99L and the pedal has the same problem: I keep it held down, buit the game acts like it was just tapped!
I rewired the gun. I connected the TS socket directly to A.
There are pedals which act as full blown controller, like shown here in episode 235: ua-cam.com/video/XfK4NrBGFC8/v-deo.html
Of course you could insert the TS socket also to a controller, rather to the gun.
Then you can use the controller with any pedal which has a TS connector =)
In theory you can get it to work with wire twisting and tape-ing, but soldering is the best way to do it.
@@Boojakascha I got that screw out, but the front end of the slide was still secured very well. It wouldn't budge.
@@EagleEye5599 did you remove the plastic piece the screw was holding?
@@Boojakascha I'll try and follow your example! Which cherry switch did you use btw?
I used a vintage Cherry "DC2" which is a mini micro switch. Today Cherry is owned by "ZF Friedrichshafen AG" so you will find switches with different branding too in some cases. Right now, usually ZF still uses the Cherry name and logo though :D
@@Boojakascha Thank you for that info, I've bought some to do the trigger mod!
@@VirtuaVillain Great! I will be curious to hear how you like them =)
I finally got 2 of these.
Playing with brightness helped a bit but the image way to Bright to enjoy..
Yes, Beovisions have a polarisation filter glass that needs to be removed in order to play light gun games properly.
@@Boojakascha Hi Again. i removed the glas, it is called a Contrast filter (I think). I played around with image settings, and seem to have good calibration at around 1-1,5m. I have a dead zone mainly in the left side. But it seem that I can keep the TVs for now :) I do like this gun ! ;)
Have you done some TV (CRT) Recommendation or could you consider making a video about it? They are getting harder and garder to come by. The Beovisions are however quite common as they are more a stylish element in most older houses. I rarely see any Sony Trinitrons these days :S
Thanks
@@SUPERGAMERPOWER Maybe it needs more light? Can you go to max brighness and try over?
Good vid, I have an p99l and I fixed the blind spot issue by raising the brightness on my crt
I am glad you liked it. Thank you very much for sharing your experience!
Are the reload pedals of p99l and ps099d compatible? Any differences in performances? I am asking because I saw lots of logic 3 pedals, are all compatible between logic 3 guns? Thanks
Yes, those are all compatible. Not all are clicky, though & the clicky ones are regarded as being better :D
(inc Time crisis 2)
So I am guessing the laser has broken? Is there any way to fix test of fix it?
I would be grateful for any help - thank you
On some guns the laser is just emitted if the gun senses the TV. Have you checked that you use a 50/60 Hz CRT TV with the RCA connector hooked up to something that carries c-Sync?
The P99 guns are supposed to support all gun modes (Konami mode, Namco G-Con 45 and 2 modes).
@@Boojakascha
Thanks very much for your reply.
@@Boojakascha Yes, controller connector only. I have tried both GunCon 1 and Normal, I always reboot after changing modes.
@@rossmadibo Thank you! I am very glad you got it working! =)
Great video. Is the PS099L an entirely different model? I found some comments saying its the same as the P99L but is that correct?
Thanks a lot! The answer to this is more than yes or no. In some cases the guns even came swapped in the box of the other name. So in a way the names were interchangeable. But also no, because not all guns were 100 Hz compatible and one of the two names (I can't remember which one sadly) was more likely to be 100 Hz compatible than the other.
Would you say this is a good option for someone that wants to play ps1 shooters on a ps2 console?
@@seanythornton1982 Yes, Sir! This is my favorite third party light gun. I don't think you will find a better one. The G/C-2 Light Blaster and the "Wireless Arcade Light Gun" come very close to that, but my heart belongs to the P99L series.

What a heartbreaker, these ebay snipers have taken away my enthusiasm for now. I'll try again in a couple weeks/months to look for another once the motivation comes back, hehe. Aw, this sucks! If an auction fails this close, mentally the item was already yours. So this feels like a huge bummer!

That's hilariously ironic, If you think about the respective firearms laws in these nations.

In the US your best chances are the Dragonplus variants (same as the Logic3 ones) and the models from Dream Gear. Sadly the latter are just similar and are actually a bit worse than the ones covered in this episode.

For the others, he found Desert Eagle (168), P99L (119), Avenger Pro (170), Jolt Gun (129).
@@Boojakascha thanks for the info! i take look to the xk21 and flacon. i can found in my contry the XK21 "older" version (the "tricolor text mode" button) in a good price, and the falcon unit with not-that-good-but-still-low-price. but seriusly. i'm F**** in love with this unit *_*. waiting to Sinden Technologies for release the rpi/arduino/minimOSD dongle unit for work with LCD displays!. greetings
@@sL1pKn07SpinFlo Glad I was a help =)
I had problems with this gun. After a while when i used this gun the rumble circuit in the ps2 broke and the ps2 was not able to provide rumble functionality to any controller. I encounter that problem on several ps2 devices. I bought 4 of these guns and always played with 2 player setup on p2. Maybe i had bad luck.
I am sorry to hear that! Sounds like a fuse issue! Or do actual parts get damaded?
@@Boojakascha something in the ps2 get damaged so the ps2 can't provide rumble functionality anymore. I didnt found the problem in detail. Maybe its a fuse :D
@@geekonarium I see. I think I recall it being a very sensible fuse in some models.
maybe someone knows a tutorial how to fix the fuses on the ps2 boards?
@@geekonarium Yes! For the fat models are tutorials around. Sadly it's a frequent problem :-(
There's one listing on Ebay right now for roughly £10, is it worth it?
I wasn't able to spot that particular auction. But yes, if it's the right model and it's in a good condition, this is a great deal. These guns are among the best 3rd party controllers ever made.
@@Boojakascha it's a different model to the one you showed in the video as its made for the original xbox, the later model with the recoil switch on the side and themed for The House of The Dead 3 but otherwise its all the same
@@drunkonsuccess779 Is it green? These are super valuable & go for 100+ USD usually.
@@Boojakascha Yes it's green
@@drunkonsuccess779 no brainer!
Any advice on lightguns with recoil would be great. ❤️ Any suggestions on brand or mods? Ended up really annoyed that the aimtrak kits are eating up actual vintage tech. Im a crt purist and Jesus please stop ripping out perfectly good internals that would run perfect on a well calibrated tube
This very list is also a good starting point for people who just want to play on PlayStation 1&2 and don't care about PC.
@@Boojakascha Any recommendations for pedals for the p99l?
@@PraiseValkyrie I recommend looking into episode 201, which was a pedal overview. But in general every TS pedal will do. There are metal made ones for sewing machines :D
@@Boojakascha Grabbed a p99L today!
@@PraiseValkyrie Awesome!! Let us know what you think, once you tried it =)
Hi dude! My p099l arrived today without any hookup instructiouns :( not sure exactly how to hookup the cables. Could you please scan yours or at least make some photos with your phone and upload them somewhere? Trying to play resident evil dead aim on ps2 without any success :( I have 2 p099l now and the dpad on neither of them seems to work in neither Mode. Normal guncon 1 and guncon 2. Odd enough I'm only getting some response in guncon 1 mode and it's menu confirm button but no d pad functions. If you'd make a short video instruction, I'd be thankfull. Lieben Gruß :)
For G-Con 2 games you just connect the USB connector and the RCA jack. Then you set the gun to Guncon 2 with the switch. Did you also connect the PlayStation controller connector? That might has caused the issue!
@@Boojakascha Using Time Crisis II the recoil on PS099L seems to not get enough power to budge in guncon 2 mode (usb + video) nor light up the laser, but in Guncon 1 mode (ps + video) it works fine and laser too. Is this normal? Using a slim PS2. For Normal mode is it PS + video or just PS connector?
@@michaelflowden6496 No, I don't recall that being an issue. You could try to connect the controller via a powered hub. When using the gun in normal mode, usually one wouldn't connect the RCA jack.
