*IMPORTANT* After posting this video, I learnt that the idiomatic expression ‘call a spade a spade’ may be considered offensive to some people. When the saying first entered the English language, the word ‘spade’ referred to the garden tool used for digging in the garden. Unfortunately, however, more recently, the word ‘spade’ has been used as a derogatory (insulting) term for Black people. Because of this, you may decide to use an alternative expression, such as ‘tell it like it is’ or ‘give it to me straight’ to convey the same meaning.
This is a very interesting article if you’d like to learn more about the evolution of this expression:

You're beautiful lucy 😊
Let me answer your final question with another question if it's not too daring... Would you advise using these words when asking a girl out? I mean, wouldn't she just think I'm some kind of a geekish weirdo who just swallowed a dictionary and is now throwing it up on her?
My version of flirting is looking at someone I find attractive multiple times and hoping they're more brave than I am.
I can relate 😂 And sharing loads of memes with them 😂
@@EnglishwithLucyHey you've made me Silly.
I know this sounds fascinating but i think that's now the right time to confess 😅 Coz the topic is all bout it

We absolutely need like those lessons, cause nobody in real life talking like textbook or in very formal way , so you deserve a big respect from us, keep up and wish you more success 🌹
This is a good and fun language lesson. But for asking someone out, you don't need to say things like, "No worries if not" at the end. Be confident and don't undermine yourself. Expect a yes! Everyone understands that they can say no, but you don't have to start that answer for them!
The lesson we all needed and never dared to ask for... 🥰🥰🥰
I love you Lucy, I want to flirt with you.😭😭😭
Exactly😅😅
I'm British and I need this video

Very nice lesson. When you say:” you’re the most stunning woman in London” the most likely answer is :” aha, sure you say the same everyone “ 😂 We may need to solve this embarrassing situation in advance level 😊. Thank for all Lucy

I´m a german who´s never been to england ever before and understand literally everything when it came to the ultra slang levels and I´m confused how I was able to do so haha. But I´m pretty happy about that to be honest
This is a very banging video. I'm truly gobsmacked with the content😮
I just want to share the story about one hookup I was close to in NZ when I was in my 30s. This was a Halloween 🦇 night and we were having a hell of a party at a local pub ... As a gang we were dancing away and just having a good time. So, this kiwi bloke came up to me on a dance floor and said, "I like your style." I was flattered and being as shy as I am still many moons after that in my 50s now I just thanked him. I thought he was referring to my 🧙♀️ halloween costume he was wearing a Freddy Krüger costume btw. Then he left me and came for the second time saying the same thing again. I laughed got closer to him and repeated myself just thanking him. I added I love my style , too. He ran away straight away ... Being Russian born I didn't know that he was talking about my dancing style or it was some form of invitation to hook up... I was so puzzled and only years after that by googling I found out that this was just a line to get to know each other... I am still so embarrassed about it and kinda sad that we didn't spend that night dancing together ... So learning English doesn't have to be embarrassing abiut that fact that you don't know stuff.. Just be brave and say if you don't understand this or that...i had a feeling he was trying to tell me something else. I could have just said I am Russian and can't speak properly or something like that.😊Or I could have just introduced myself and invite him to dance ... Ohhh the fact that he wasn't alone with another girl was confusing ...i thought they were on a date ...
Thank you for your lively lessons , ....
We have absolutely stunning teacher! Thank you, Lucy)
Very enjoyable lesson with really interesting vocabulary. You got me the most with "cakehole" which I first heard in an episode of "Supernatural". That's in few words (for everyone who doesn't know) a series about two brothers in a mystery-road-movie-setting. In the very first episode, the younger brother complains about the "outdated" music cassette collection. The older brother's reply: "House rule, Sam: Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cakehole!" I thought that cakehole was American slang in the first place, so very interesting that it is also British slang and in American English it's usually "piehole".
I just refreshed the channel page and u just hit 10.5M subs!
Good luck with dethroning ZAmericanEnglish at some point haha
Love both of u guys and have learned a lot from u both so thank u ❤
You're an really an amazing English teacher. Undoubtedly, you designed the lesson incredibly!😊

God bless you too.
I liked your pronunciation and way of delivering lessons.
😊 A very imperative lesson about dating ,thank you ,Coach Lucy
We have something like “cakehole” in Russian- хлеборезка ( hleborezka) . In translation means “breadcutter” 😀
Love these lessons!
Great video. I adored it, God bless you.

Lucy, Since I started watching your videos in 2021, I've come a long way.I'm studying for my final exam and getting ready for the English language exam as well. And I want to ask you for something. When it comes to writing essays, I'm horrible. Even though I speak English well, I've a lot of trouble writing essays. Could you offer any recommendations on that? That would be a great help. Finally, just like every day, this is a great lesson! :)
Try it! Relax and write an oral essay and practice it, translate it with different English apps. (Except Google translator) Good luck!.
Our super lovely and unique teacher Lucy
