Hi Gavin! Thanks very much for the links in your video and description, very much appreciated! You are gonna love this one - but get ready for bleeding hands when making up those turnbuckles - I ended up tapping the ball-ends to ease the pain! And the stickers really need some heat, especially those on the wings. You will end up with a rally car that brings you a lot of joy and satisfaction. Take it easy, my friend! :)
This is the one I fancied getting. Nice to see the link to Mark's video go up as I watched that series between the two available chassis. Looking forward to watching this build. 👍🏼
I got myself an xv01 long damper spec. Such a nice kit I upgraded to CVD's on the front axle. Got the slipper clutch conversion and driving with a 13,5 turn brushless motor.
@RCKicks Gavin, here my recommended modifications (numbers are Tamiya Part numbers): - HIGHLY recommended from the beginning: 54379 (x2), 54376, 54377, 53709, 54602 (x2) (+ 42259), aluminum spacer 4 x 6 x 2.0 mm (instead of plastic parts NN-4, f. e. Square SGE-120), better servo saver (f. e. Corally / Kimbrough Mid-Size) - mayber later: 54515, 54428 (x2) (+ 543111, 54589), 54450 (x2), 54451, 54454
I got the same set 3 years ago as a big rally and Lancia fan. Build was pretty straight forward but the stickers were a real pain, especially the larger ones that wrap over the fenders and the tiny ones in the air dam. That aside, it handles amazingly and is fun to run. I am slowly upgrading it and would recommend brushless motor (I have a Tamiya 10.T in it) and to get aluminum suspension arm brackets for the front at least as this is one of the few weak spots on the car and if you smack into a curb or wall the impact can tear out the plastic brackets (I did this twice before upgrading). Tamiya has some good hop up options and YeahcRacing also has some nice aluminum too.. Great to see this chassis in the channel!
Love this chassis. My favorite Tamiya. I did mine in red, turned out ok. Also have a TT-02 with the Killerbody Lancia Delta. Looking forward to you building it. I did the body first on my Xv-01 too.
Having recently built this, I would certainly recommend the water approach for larger decals. Also when you come to fit servo, it is a very tight fit for a standard servo (not all standards will fit as stack too high). Very enjoyable build though.
Gav. Water, dishwashing soap, and isopropyl alcohol. Iso and water in equal parts and a dash of dishwashing soap. I use it a lot, especially window masks so I can get them dead center. Works for decals on the outside as well.
So I built the XV01T Asterion recently (not finished the body yet though - sigh) & I did need a half height servo. The standard one I had was just outside of the spec given on the first page of the manual so was about 2mm out when fitting. You might find a standard one that fits but check the size specified in the manual first! Hope that helps!
Hi Gavin I have one and bought all the yeah racking up grades I have the first addition Subaru but also bought the lancia body but using the magnets not to put holes in body after you have lost 10 years of your life in the apprenticeship of decals you don’t want to be putting holes in that body. Best of luck
Can't wait for the build. I've been wondering between TT02 et XV01 with Lancia body, that's all what's left available around rally wise ... sure the XV01 is more expensive but if you add only Tamiya CVA shocks and bearings on top of the TT02, the price difference is not that much ... better go with the XV01.
Lol vx, good video! Its my favourite rally chassis to watch!, the subaru xv is not common and very scale looking. Most new amazon servos are too big. Use TL-01 oil shocks with long eyelets for more travel
You're going to love the build. Make sure you tap the plastics before installing the machine screws. It's makes life so much easier and the build more enjoyable. I got the Subaru version but haven't done the body yet.
Hey Gav, you are going to love this build. Its my favourite kit. I didn't do a great job on my decals, bit of a dogs breakfast, good from far, far from good 😂. I put a hobbywing Max 10 (one of very few ESC i could find that would fit) with a 4000kv and MG does it go like the clappers!
Use a tap on the holes, also put a metal shim between NN4 and drive pin BA 15 it will save you hassle as the pin wears out nn4. Love my Xv-01 long damper. Running a 4000kv Motor and it handles it with no problems. I have posted pics before on her running. L&L rothmans mk2 shell with all the stripes painted in
Xv-01 seems to be a really nice chassis. I have it new in the box and did’nt had the guts of doing it yet...decals seems to be challenging. Looking forward for soaps method you talked about. A lot of person seem to have good result using it.
I enjoy my XV-01 but will admit it is a vacuum and sucks up small pebbles/rocks and jams the steering on a regular basis. And it sits to close to the ground which I assume is the reason they came out with the long damper version. Still, its fun to drive and a premium kit. You can tell who ever designed it put a lot of time in the design.
Built the same kit recently, but not painted the shell yet. I looked at upgrades but not done any yet you can easily spend 2-300 on upgrades if you go that far! Was a good build going for box art for the shell.
I have an XV-01, got alot of Tamiya blue on it nowadays despite only having 7 runs 😁 Handles great, despite now being addicted to the high speed high torque larger scale stuff, mine might not be super quick (29mph atm, 4000kv 2s with 29t pinion and TB-03 spur w/ slipper clutch) but it just handles so nice, especially on dusty surfaces. With the dry warmer weather 🤞 I'm going to drop in an XR10 G2 v4 and a 10.5T sensored system for a bit more speed and smoothness (+turbo)
Gav, When i built my XV-01 i found a issue i could never sort. The rear suspension never had equal toe in each side. I thought it was due to the JJ01/02 parts. I realise they are several spacers etc and the JJ parts are different front and rear. I even bought the upgrade JJ parts and still the same. The holes in the frame look ok by eye. If you build yours bung the wheels on with no tyres as soon as suss is on and check yours.
I love the DF03RA and have it several times over. I only have one XV01 as its price was markedly steeper than the DF03RA on debut. My impression is that the former wasn’t as commercially successful as the latter on account of that.
I find that the adhesive on the foil tape simply won't stick to the PS paint on the inside... seems to stick, but come back a few hours later and it has fallen off. The Enzo Ferrari tells you to put it on the underside of the bonnet where it is low, I assume to protect it from rubbing. I have had the same issue with the double-sided tape they provide for light buckets; they just fall off after a short time.
Sorry I was late Professor. Watching that ignorant NASCAR. Settling into that new Studio? BRB Kurt Bush just took some samples of outer wall with the fenders of his Camaro. Great information on new releases.
wouldn't mind the subaru kit must admit had my eyes on this chassis for a while anybody know of any weekness on the chassis drive train etc cracking video mr gavin
If only there were stock here, I missed out on getting one of these a couple of weeks back for 18000 yen (120 quid) because I didn't realize that was a cheap price.
I thought it was an XV-01, not a VX-01 ;) Anyway, great video, I like the chassis, it's a bit different, and the Lancia Delta Integrale, absolutely love that bodyshell!!
I’ve got one - the Lancia version. A few legends on FB RC rally page spoke about how important the metal bevel gears, cross shafts, reinforced belt, improved diff oil are. Since then its been awesome. My knowledge is limited but is there a 1/10 rally chassis better than XV01? I doubt it but I’d love to know. Gavin, great idea talking about this kit. It’s a ripper.
Hi Gavin, you can buy a complete body from "KillerBoddies" that is ready to go. This body will fit this car. The Tamiya body does not take LEDs, but the other body does. Thoughts?
I have this i paid 280 they have a carbon fiber chassis on aliexpress for $120 and if you dont want that they have other carbon fiber parts im doing two builds one carbon fiber and stock with carbon fiber parts they have all parts that are weak on the XV01 in carbon fiber
That box definitely says "XV" 😂😁😎😉

I got one 6 months ago and the behaviour is amazing. Very over-steering. Total fun.
My guy! I cannot understand how you don't have a million plus subs! Your show is much more pro than most!
The Delta Integrale was THE hot-hatch car from the 80's that I wanted the most.
Heat gun for the stickers over the front wing Gavin..... love that car I made it last month and it’s my best purchase from Tamico by far 🥰
I use a hairdryer works a treat 👌🏼
Great video once again.
So glad you are building this kit. I have this one and the long damper spec

What length of cvd’s did you use ?
@@blakethompson7308 42mm shafts in the front with the trf 416/417 axle
Looking forward to this one as had one on order for ages. 👍🏻👍🏻

Best Tamiya Rally chassis!
Hmmm... interesting! I was just thinking about getting myself a rally car...
Stickers are a mission

I'm sure I had a Celica on this chassis.......although I maybe wrong but that's unusual lol Fully ball raced too I'm sure! Awesome video as always 👍😊
Thats a great chassie, and Lancia Delta is the best looking body. You forgot the Asterion on XV-01
Hi Gavin I have one and bought all the yeah racking up grades I have the first addition Subaru but also bought the lancia body but using the magnets not to put holes in body after you have lost 10 years of your life in the apprenticeship of decals you don’t want to be putting holes in that body. Good luck with the stickers! Got the tt02 version and made a proper hash of them!

I also put universal shafts in the front of mine. Not sure the slipper clutch bought much to the party.

you might want to consider getting some really thick diff oil the oil provided leaks straight out

Up next Gav finishes the Porsche 959
Interesting. It’s the nearest I’ve seen to my 206WRC on the TA03F. Super good handling from such a far forward engine.

kamtec sell a rally under cover for the tt01 and tt02 for £9.99
wouldn't mind the subaru kit must admit had my eyes on this chassis for a while anybody know of any weekness on the chassis drive train etc cracking video mr gavin
body reinforcement i use plasterer scrim tape and shoegoo
If only there were stock here, I missed out on getting one of these a couple of weeks back for 18000 yen (120 quid) because I didn't realize that was a cheap price.

I keep thinking ZX as it reminds more of the ZX Spectrum lol

knight customs do some nice looking parts for this kit
Lol sounds like your Washing Machine on Spin 😂
vx-01 ? XV-01 you mean. Well I wanted one last year, never got around picking one up.
I have this i paid 280 they have a carbon fiber chassis on aliexpress for $120 and if you dont want that they have other carbon fiber parts im doing two builds one carbon fiber and stock with carbon fiber parts they have all parts that are weak on the XV01 in carbon fiber
Lucky number 13
What's a Vx-01?
I would have had one of these already if the battery door didn't screw on. That makes 0 sense to me.
You better not look at the knight customs 3d parts. :)
Always want t listen to queens of the stone age's little sister when I watched one of Gavin's videos. Don't know why 🤔
Think it's an XV 01🤔🤔
why u keep saying VX lol
No bearings in a 200+ $ rally kit...oh boy
Nah it comes with bearings, just that they're metal shielded ones which is alright for dry conditions but not for wet running.
