I have to be completely honest. I kind of wanted it to NOT be that good... the backlog was staring at me the whole time but yeah....this happened! What do you think? Mark
This looks absolutely amazing. This isn't going to my wishlist, this is an instant buy. Thank you for covering this game! I'm not sure I would've picked it up if you hadn't covered it
I actually wrote up kind of a long-ish explanation of how the game doesn't use 3DS era graphics, but then I saw you said, "of the island exploration on an airship". Well, I wasted 5 minutes of my life for nothing 😂
@@biterness2323 Naa, I made the same mistake you did. He's referring to a specific part of the game where you're exploring on an airship, and I can kinda see how it uses graphical style from the 3DS era. Although since I'm not the only one who misread what he meant, I think the way he worded his comment is pretty confusing. But I don't think the 2D sprites in this game are really reminiscent of the GBA era. This is way beyond what was possible on the GBA, although stuff like Minish Cap did pull off really impressive 2D visuals.
This was already on my wishlist but I still enjoyed listening to your reviews. A two man dev team is quite impressive. If the future is indie gaming it still has a long way to go. The 3D overworld is impressive and comfortably nostalgic and the combat looks a bit more technical than I would prefer but I'll definitely give it a try. Indeed an instant classic.
Really dig the art style and the combat looks pretty fun. Got a place in my wishlist (because my backlog is more than full right now) Thanks for the review
Dang it this looks too good to miss. I saw it in another of your videos recently and remember thinking it looked good and now I know for sure. Will definitely grab at some point. Thanks for the depth of the review. As always, quality work.
Hey guys. Long time lurker, first time commenter. Just wanted to let you know that I watched your review for the updated baldo this past week and you sold me. I've sunk 20+ hours into the game so far and without a doubt it is the best $30 I have spent on a video game in years. It's almost like baldo was cater made for someone like me and I wouldn't have found it without your channel. Appreciate your content turning me onto games that otherwise I would never know about. Truly grateful. ❤
Saw the physical pop up on Reddit and was wondering what/how this was. Once again SwitchUp coming through with fantastic timing. Thanks for the review!
I saw this in one of your previous videos and am so glad you reviewed it. I like how the combat has depth to it, the graphics look sweet and some cool platforming too. I might get the physical for this one, am impressed. Cheers for reviewing it Mark.
Was so excited when I saw this video! I came across this game back a couple weeks ago and knew I needed it! Now my backlog is insane and I currently have over 230 games on my switch with many more saved to my wish list but this game is taking top spot and being played today!
Been waiting for your review of this game since learning about Vernal Edge only yesterday (so I’ve not been waiting long, but it’s felt that way 😅). Incredible review as always, I’m super excited to pick this game up now after hearing your positive feedback!
Awesome content as always! Watching this review definitely helped me in my decision of picking this up! Thank you for always providing amazing content for all of us!

The first time I heard of this game was from the new March releases video from you guys. It immediately caught my attention and I put it on my wishlist. It looks like a lot of fun. It's so cool how a lot of games are being created by either a single or few developers. I've been playing more indie/AA games lately than AAA and don't regret it
Thank you so much for covering this game!!! I saw it on the eshop and was immediately intrigued and wondered how it was, and I am glad to find out that it is amazing!!! I might wait for the physical because I tend to lean towards those to be able to have the box art and other goodies that may be included! Thanks a ton and see ya!!!
Oh good I was really hoping you guys were going to do a review for this one as it looked really cool in Glen's weekly new release video. Definitely understanding of you aost being disappointed that it's awesome, my wishlist and backlog are also way out of control!
Yeah, this looks great! Another game I didn't know I needed. The flying ship thing reminds me of the old classic Skies of Arcadia. Hopefully there are some one eyed pirates in amongst all the robots and ant thingies! Cheers for this tip, this is what I watch the channel for guys.
Beautiful pixel art and the combat loks very addictive. Thanks for the review. You're always making sure my backlog is stacked with games to play for months on end ahah Currently having tons of fun with chained echoes.
This game was one that I thought looked interesting, but wasn't entirely sure whether I wanted to add it to my backlog. But after watching your review, I think I will get it!
I honestly had no idea it was coming to Switch til last week ...I knew it was Steam-bound but also a physical? This team jumped thru some hurdles quick for sure
This looks like an absolute GEM!! Certainly is my style of gaming experience, and I love the 2D art style. Appreciate this amazing review, SwitchUp has never steared me wrong.
Ah I'm a sucker for a metroidvania but there's something about the visuals of this that isn't really working for me...maybe after I finish ender lilies!
Looks absolutely fantastic, and the major gripe (i.e., the checkpoint system, which I agree isn't the way to go) could theoretically be patched somewhat easily. Picking this up for sure. Thanks for the detailed review!
I got a lot to say. As someone was part of the kickstarter for bloodstained ritual of the night, when i played the game, i wasnt blown away at all. Even tho i am a die hard eternal fan of symphony of the night, i always wanted more from the combat experience, and this goes to a lot of metrovanias. I always wanted mechanics like this that would have a method to juggle, counters and more thoughtful ways to play, not just having a lot of powers that just felt like cheesing the game. Something visceral! This reminds me of a love child of sekiro and dmc with castlevania and im thrilled to experience this.
I haven't heard anything about this game before your video, this is why I watch your channel. Excellent looking game, can't wait to shove it in my backlog. Lol, nope I'm playing this one immediately.
I’m about a month late to this video, but thank you lads for putting this on my radar, it’s exactly the type of game I’ve been looking for to scratch that metroidvania itch!
I really wanted to like this game and it was this review that persuaded me to purchase it. Everything about the game felt great, EXCEPT there is no clear direction on where to go/what to do next. I found myself bouncing back and forth from island to island wasting many hours. Midway through the game you have to find 5 relics to advance. I found 4 of them rather quickly, perhaps by luck. Still haven't found the 5th and last one. What made me give up on the game is a puzzle that isn't clear in the slightest, and I don't even think it's necessary to complete the game. Looked up a UA-cam video on how to do it, did the same exact thing this gamer did, and it worked for him but not me. Then Google searched how to do it, and every explanation I saw didn't work. Imo, I wpuld give the game 8.5/10 but for everything I just discussed the game receives a 5...Extremely frustrating.
Well hot damn, I knew nothing about this title, but being on a current Metroidvania kick, I like everything I see here. A+ for the review and bringing this game to our attention
This looks like a perfect fit for the Switch! Gotta love how many indie gems we're getting, honestly games like this look way more exciting than most AAA releases we have access to on other platforms. Thanks again for bringing them to our attention!
Hope the developers see this and implement the changes through some patches later down the road, but this will be a "must buy" for me. Especially on the switch side before the sale goes away.
