- At a German protestant church, baby Helena is being baptized. A barber prepares a bride and her female relatives for the wedding. They talk about how courtship and relationships have changed over the years.
Yisrael Campbell is an Orthodox comedian who tours the world with his show. He was born in Los Angeles and converted to Judaism when he was 30 years old and moved to Israel. This was also when he changed his name from Chris to Yisrael.
Esther, 28, meets with a marriage broker and has to answer a lot of personal questions. Her biggest wish is to find a husband.
While waiting for her ex-husband, Moran has a fight with her young daughter who doesn't want to spend the night at her father's.
Ruth Bach visits a friend. Both of them have housekeepers from the Philippines. They can only stay in Israel for around five years or as long as their current employment lasts. As they only have a work visa, they are not allowed to start a family. If they give birth, their baby has to be sent to the Philippines after six months.

One mistake, people make, they don' t give the relationship time, to get to know each other, before the marriage, there is more to marriage, than just the m arrangement bed. The fellowship, appreciating each other's gifts, experiencing life together, thr trials stress and, the good times, grows the marriage, matures, each person, And, the marriage❤😊
Does anyone else's heart ache for the little girl who refuses to go to her dad's? Adults underestimate how hard it is for children of divorced parents. Children need stability and consistency. Shuffling between parents definitely does feel UNFAIR for a child. Poor sweet girl.
It's not that bad. The parents were unhappy with each other. No one should guilt adults staying in a relationship they're unhappy in.
My worry is WHY the kid doesn't want to go with her dad (?) Is he abusing her?
Yes, kids do need stability and consistency BUT if parents cannot be on the same platform any more, it is better to be off on two different tracks. I agree it is not good for kids to be torn apart on a weekly basis, but it might work out on a more balanced time schedule. Splitting the time on a two-week basis per month works pretty well. Also holidays split evenly on several weeks basis might be a good solution. It worked for my husband and his ex. Kids were happy too. If kids don't want to be with a parent at all, there must be a different reason. Should be paid attention and sought after.
I felt it was cruel to force her to continuously change house. Adults get anxious and depressed if they don't have stability, imagine a child.
@@jgunn03 children are not supposed to deal with stuff like this, it’s not about happiness. Marriages are not about happiness, it’s about denying ourselves….a huge problem is people are marrying for temporal reasons! There’s no solid foundation!
She doesn't want to go because at dad's she's disciplined where with her mother she gets to continue being dysfuntional. Her mother needs to get a backbone to her daughter's pushy ways.
I sat and binge watched this entire show a couple of years ago.

It won’t end well when both people want to stay the same and make the other person change. You need to find someone who is happy with you as you are and you are happy with them as you are. If both people want the other person to change for them then no one will change and they will both just be unhappy.
To be honest she was looking for a unicorn and the matchmaker realized that. He had to be her age, good heart, very intelligent but emotional at the same time ¡? Plus very handsome.

The answer is love, the stick it out way! Noone is perfect. The longer you are with each other the stronger you become. Your love becomes stronger, it's called forgiveness. Then your love is genuine. You remember each other's weakness, have compassion on each other, forgive, before it turns into bitterness, and hatred
God will not forgive you, if you don't forgive, each other. You find yourself growing on each other, in love!!!!! Ask a 44year married couple, 1 man+1 woman, til death do you part. Divorce is selfish, on either side.× it hurts everyone, around you. Unless there is fornication or adultery, stay together, learn what life is about. Noone can make you happy, all the time. I just about fell on the floor laughing with the minister stepping in front of the young woman and leaving her to close the door...you could see her annoyance with it all! She seemed to roll her eyes as if to say, "Are you seeing this sh*t?, God"

I just love the fact that this documentary shows one thing, no matter religion or culture we are all the same in the end and it shows that we are met with exactly the same human problems, we are all the same and equal under God.

Google maqloobeh, lots of recipes come up and each of them different. Most of them seem to have chicken, rice, and a veggie but I’m sure you can tweak any recipe you choose as needed.

I did visit Jerusalem always had a picture in my head since I was very young, When I got there it was all about money visiting the Holy sites was a big disappointment and very expensive left me dissolutioned I’m pleased I went but was sad at what I see.

Guess what? She dated a smart and handsome Jewish man. Dated for 4 years and things didn't work out because she wanted to continued with her Master. We learned a lot about him in those years. Even do he came from an Orthodox background, he wasn't. Great documentary 👏

Kind of scary idea to marry someone you’re settling for, with the goal of making them who you want them to be. I don’t think that’s often successful, if ever, and even more insurmountable if both spouses want to reshape the other into their ideal. I guess you could each try to mold the other into a person who accepts you as you are…

As the official Rabbinate in Israel is run by the orthodox branch of Judaism, it recognizes the conversion only if taught and consecrated through its own ministery.
Mr Campbell is a comedian, his mention of "not being allowed to die"..or "not being buried" was meant in humor and was 'tongue in cheek'!

The idea of different branches in a religion,can be found in every faith.
If someone was to convert to Catholicism, they would not be considered 'true' Christians by the Protestant church.
Consequently, they would not be buried there either.
@@flms1234 Not every religion has the view of "true" vs "not true". For example, as soon as you declare that you believe in one God and in the final Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) you are considered a full, true Muslim. There's no one who would look at you as any less than another Muslim who was born into the religion. Any person in the world can easily be a true believer in God, which to me, makes far more sense for humanity than to have to be born in a certain land/certain race/certain family.

Stupid workers. All's they have to do is go to the American Embassy and ask for their baby to be sent to the US. Then of course the mother must accompany the baby. And absolutely the mother must then ask for free room and board.

They don't have to send their babies away - they always have the option to return to their home countries with their babies & leave their employment in Israel. If they're aware of the terms & conditions of their employment visa up front, they should be prepared to take their babies back to their home country & remain there - if they don't want to simply send their babies back to their home country themselves. But if they want to continue their employment in Israel - they really have no option but to comply with the terms & conditions of their Israeli employment visa.

I have been to Yisrael twice and have my Jewish friends who live there. Israel is a beautiful country. But they have many issues they need too adress. For me l think all people who have lived there five years and more should be able to live there premanently .Torah said you should treat the stranger as one of your own.

42:24 it’s a pity hearing this advice, you can’t change a human, and it’s disingenuous to go into a relationship planning to try. People grow and evolve, for sure, and are influenced by the forces around them, but you can be as good as can be and the other person still decide to be bad or rude or selfish, or just flat out grow even stranger to your rather than closer. Both of you have to have a foundational commitment to be kind to each other and to take the time and effort to understand one other. Both of you, man included, woman included, both.
So right, Beth! That is a common reason for marriage failures. Going into a relationship/marriage (especially women) thinking they will change the partner, or ignoring a disliked habit or trait that will doom the relationship to fail, or to like a partner's status and job, but then moan about the partner not being home as his/her work is not 9 to 5.

A friend of mine told me she would cry bloody murder when her parents left her with her grandparents but they did and the grandfather molested her.
@Caite Smith YESSSSSS! I just commented the exact same thing. Also, that she phoned up to apologise to her Mum whilst she was at her Dad's. Normally a child would wait until they got home and were talking directly to their Mum, after reflection of the incident and having enjoyed their time, to apologise. I wondered whether the Dad told her to.apologise because of the documentary being filmed?
As a molestation survivor I am always on high alert. Well my kids often have to go to their moms (my husbands ex wife) and sometimes they don’t want to and I was concerned by that... then but they ended up telling me that it was because their moms dog sheds too much and she doesn’t sweep and so sometimes it gets on their clothes and in their food. And it was something as simple as pet hair in that instance. The other thing is she clearly verbalized she didn’t like that they always changed their custodial schedule and for kids structure is extremely important and some kids get very anxious or upset when plans change and they feel like they get no choices

Such an unusual situation. The gentleman born a Catholic and converted to Judaism. My son's paternal grandmother converted from Catholicism to Judaism to marry her husband in Belgium after the 2nd World War. She told me it was very difficult and that she was not encouraged to convert. I suppose that was because Judaism is passed down through the female line. It's very strange the way people need a religion in order to make a belief in god real. I'm sure it must be a great comfort, but not having a religion or a god is the only reality for me.
It's not about making God real. Religion is about traditions and people. Most Jewish peoples biggest reason for following Judaism is so that it doesn't die out. If it dies out, then all the evil people who tried to end them, win. They have been persecuted since before 0 A.D.
It's really hard to keep a culture going. Especially if it's a minority. Otherwise religions die out too fast. It's easy to be hedonistic and spiritual

The mothers could always go with them if they wanted to - back to their home country - but many prefer to remain in Israel working for their employer. It's a choice they need to make, & one which they would have been aware of at the outset, as part of the terms & conditions of their Israeli employment visa.

@@morganelusseau3012 Swapping weeks is not the root of the problem though. Kids won't just open up and tell you everything on the spot like that. Especially with the camera crew in your living room. I'm an elementary teacher. Her behavior is very concerning to me as well.

@@alinagurt5857 they can't keep screwing up the weeks like that though. Children need routine and if they keep messing it up, it can affect them. If can affect their sleep pattern their adjustment to a well rounded childhood because their is no stability. I also don't think the mother should be making the child go if she doesn't want to but legally it can get messy if the father goes to court and says well the mother isn't letting me see my child too.

My landlord in brooklyn told me he couldn't shake my hand after signing the lease becayuse of religious rules. Is the touching thing only within the Hasidim?
You are correct; Orthodox Jews do not touch the opposite sex before marriage nor can they be in the same room alone with the opposite sex. But some people are more strict about it than others.

One sadness. Watching the mother making dinner for 2 teenage girls was so disappointing. THEY (the girls) should have made the dinner, completed the cleanup and should be evolving into competent women. They are spoiled and selfish (planning endless shopping).

no not really. Children like their routine. The little girl was crying and clearly the dad told her to apologise to her mum. Which is very nice of her ex husband as no mother likes to see her child unhappy. So she called to say that she is fine. Small children aren't adults its not like she will think oh I made my mum upset I better apologise.

The only reason why she apologised was because she was under direction to do so from her Father. But her Dad wasn't saying a word to intervene when his daughter was making a scandal not to go with him when she was at her Mum's home. He was very passive, even though the Mother needed support in dealing with their daughter.
And yes, I agree. The purpose was to reassure the Mum she was Ok. But I wonder if she was actually Ok, it all seemed a slight bit off to me.

I don’t understand how a widowed mother who works full time, cleans the home, does the laundry and has all the responsibilities doesn’t ask her teenage children to at least help make dinner. Is this a culture thing where they do everything themselves and don’t ask for help?

I was very disappointed in the Palestinian mum as well as her teenage daughters. Mum does all the work, and the daughters sit there with their phones, waiting for food. Table manners of the 2 daughters were terrible as well. The mum should teach them bout these things, before it's too late. What kind of future wives is that mum raising?

Even though Jews, Christians, & Muslims are all said to follow "Abrahamic" religions, the "Gods" that they follow are all very different, as described in the scriptures of each of those religions.

That doesn't mean people don't get divorced. If you look at the statistics released by the Chief Rabbinate, 11,145 Jewish couples divorced via the Israel Jewish religious courts in 2018 and the trend is upwards.

Divorce is actually frowned upon by all 3 Abrahamic religions - Judaism, Christianity, & Islam - if one is a practising believer of any of those religions. But it still happens in all 3 religions. In Judaism & Islam, it is usually the husband who can agree to or initiate the divorce. In Judaism, if the husband does not agree to the wife's request for a divorce - she can literally remain tied to him for years, in the eyes of the religion, because there is no such thing as a "secular" divorce in Israel - just as there is no such thing as a secular marriage in Israel. But for those Jews who may have gotten married & live outside of Israel, a secular divorce & secular re-marriage may be possible - but they may not be allowed to have a Jewish re-marriage, without the Get (ie Jewish divorce) - even outside of Israel.

I guess if you want a visa to be able to work in another country apart from your own - you have to be prepared to abide by the rules of that visa. And if such foreign workers don't believe they are being treated fairly by their employer (or not in accord with their employment contract) in Israel - there are organisations they can go to to appeal. They did mention that she gets 2 days off a week - which is a good start, at least.
I can never forgive the way Israel is treating the Palestinians. They come from a war where a tyran tried to kill all of them, and move to a country already inhabited, throw them out of their homes and settle down. And still today they treat Palestinians like dirt. We, the Danish people, helped rescue Jewes during the war and this is how you show your appreciation!!

Rather than "handsome" - I think she just said the guy should be "good looking". In later episodes of this documentary there were at least 2 single Jewish guys around her age who were still looking for wives - both I would have described as "reasonable looking" - perhaps she could have gotten in touch with them.

The things about religion, especially when different ones are packed so closely together in one small space geographically, is that whilst they follow strict rules according to their faith, only one of these faiths can be right. Jews do not believe that Jesus is the messiah or son of God, Christians do, Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet, but that Mohammed who came later was the chosen one. These are exclusive beliefs with some different core beliefs and rules,, even if they all share the same foundation. Does this not inspire doubt rather than conviction?
I WOULD NOT send my child to my ex if she having that much reluctance to go. There must be more to it. Girls usually adore thier dad! Especially at that age so it's a bit worrying to see her refusing over and over to go to her dad.

To me it didn’t seem like she didn’t want to see her dad, she just didn’t want to have to move houses again. She was tired of having to constantly move between houses and that she doesn’t know when she will have to go because her parents are constantly changing plans. It sounds like she just really wanted a stable routine so she can know what’s happening. At that age kids are becoming more aware of the world around them so they don’t like being left in the dark, they like to know what’s happening and what to expect. And when you’re in those developmental years it’s important to feel comfortable and secure so you can develop well.

I don't think you would get any dispute at all from most Christians - that Jesus was most certainly born a Jew. But he did effectively start a new religion in the form of Christianity. He could not have been a Muslim, because Islam as a religion did not exist until several hundred years later. And contrary to what some Muslims claim - Muhammad is not mentioned in the Bible at all - that claim was based on a misunderstanding/misinterpretation of some words in the Bible. Jesus did say according to the Bible "I & the Father are one" - meaning that not only did he claim to be the son of God - but that he WAS God. He also stated according to the Bible that after he left this earth, he would send the Spirit as a comforter to his disciples. According to the Bible, Jesus also said "No man comes to the Father, but by me". These things (along with other Bible passages) point to the trinitarian nature of God as claimed by Christians - Father, Son, & Holy Spirit.

It's not always the case that they are being neglected - but often that they just don't have any family members or relatives who are themselves capable of looking after them. The Israeli lady featured in this documentary was a spinster (never married) - so she had no children or husband who could have looked after her. All she had was 1 brother who was also quite elderly & probably not in a position to care for her.

Palestine was simply the name of the country/land area in the middle-east, in which they lived. The Jews practised Judaism, while most of the Arabs these days are Muslim, though some still remain Christian, as they were prior to Islam coming onto the scene several hundred years after Christianity.
