2020 and still one of the best tutorials on this subject I've seen
Incredible isn't it
Just try image trace on illustrator with ignoring white.. so much more possibilities, never worry about resolutions and image quality, cuz your design is vector. Photoshop is only good for web, prove me wrong..
@@juliuSZcsgo the only one tutorial that helps😊
2023 and still holds up (:
I've watch ton and tons of digital painting tutorial from minutes to hours, but none of it has shown the simplest concept of removing the lineart from the drawings in Photoshop, and for that you have my thanks.
same
You remind me of my digital arts teacher, SIMPLE, and STRAIGHT TO THE POINT! Thanks Ten
This was very helpful! It was nice to watch someone actually teach you something without all the crap in between. You were very precise and to the point. Well done
Thank you so much for this well put, easy to learn, very quick technique that I will use all the time now! :) You literally kept my paper sketchbook as a usable tool for my comic!

Have been using this and your sped up coloring vid for months, fantastic stuff dude, also taught me a ton of keyboard shortcuts i didn't know which has sped up my process a lot. This method of getting lineart off a page is far superior to the method i had been using for years. Thank you for the rad tutorials, love your work!

Thank to 10Hun
Very helpful, thanks!
I can do everything until it comes to Shift F5. Nothing happens 😩 Unsure what to do
Same it is very frustrating and I have been trying to do this literally for a week
Hello, probably i am too late, but i think that if you press ALT+BACKSPACE you'll fill whatever you have selected with whatever color you have picked!
I am having the same problem. The "Inversion" and choose black comes out fine. It's that tricky step where the line "comes loose" and popping in a white "paper" layer behind it that's driving me crazy. I'm using a PC; any help would be appreciated!
@@bonzodog67lizardking15 hello! Can you try to explain your problem a little better? If you could say the time stamp of the stop where you are having problem it would help me understand, I'm not the u0loader, but wanna help!
@@cangaroojack Hi. Thanks. It's at 3:14. He's clearly done something that locks the isolated line art so it floats, and then he conjures a blank white layer. That seems to be the sticking point. Maybe it's a quick oversight as he is using an Apple machine and I am working with Windows.
Awesome, thank you. I have only one problem left, if I colour the outline again it has become slightly transparent, any ideas how to avoid this?
Edit: I just found out, if you just refill the selection again, the transpareny dissapears.
Great resource but PSD file only? Cut option grayed out on unlocked jpeg or tiff. Is there a similar method for PDF?
Probably the best technique I've seen in ages. Thanks for this amazing video. Love the artwork BTW.
thanks for saving me again
Very helpful and cool illustration too! Thanks
CNTRL D to deselect the line art after filling it.
you have no idea how much easier you have made my life. ive watched alot of digital art coloring tutorials and every artist will color this area in with a brush and for me it was alway so time consuming and tedious. you just made it so much easier . THANK YOU! BLESS YOU for sharing! i just subscribed!
Awesome tutorial, simple and straight to the point. And writing out the steps in the video and in the description is SOOOO helpful and underrated. Subbed.
Thank you, this was really simple and was presented in a way that had me understanding what to do in under 3 minutes. Believe me, I've watched videos where 20 minutes in, you're still not sure what Ctrl + C does.
What I do is... make sure your black and white image is leveled and sharp. Then hit "CTRL+ALT+2". It should select everything white then hit delete. Now you have just the line art. See if this helps.
Thanks so much for this ♥
Thank you so much !
Just started using photoshop and creating stuff, been struggling a lot trying to find good guides on how to do stuff. But your the one dude, really clear and everything was well explained. Thanks man!
thanksss
One thing to mention that seems important, before starting the separation and for later also the coloring, it would be useful to go to a very high resolution as pixels get bleached out by playing with the contrast!
is this possible without the quick mask? i have a very old copy of elements
nice
You upgraded my skillz!!!! Thanks bro. I might even click on that xp-pen Artist 16 Pro Graphics Display link in your other coloring/shading video if I continue to feel inspired with this stuff. Thanks for being such a cool teacher!
This is literally an S tier video- I cannot tell you the strife this will save me in the future!! Can't believe I only found this now tho lol
I have a question..
So once u have the outline separated ..how do u het rid of those line dots around the ouline..and how do u go about adding to that line art once its separated?
yeah im having the same problem with mine
Go to Select -> Deselect at the top (Hotkey is Ctrl-D for the PC)
Thanks for the nice trick. Although i like to draw in Photoshop after i finished a art piece it felt like it wasn't mine anymore , have you ever had that feeling? I just use it now for color reference . Love your art keep it up , and thanks for showing your process
2021 and I still use this when i forget how to put my line art into photoshop
shift f 5 dont work for me ;/
You can go on edit, there should be a fill option, click it and it will work, hopefully it helps you
Thanks..........*****
It took a few tries to grok this, but I finally did... the disappearing image when using the mask made my brain disappear for a moment. But follow the steps...and voila...now to see if I can play with these sorts of images in Indesign. I have been using photoshop for decades, really, and never HAD to do this before. ... photo retouching, yes, but not fool with simple line art . Doh. And only a few times had to use the pen tool. Now to upgrade my skillzzz... Thank you so much.
Why Photoshop Elements removed the Quick Mask, why, why?? Anyone knows how to separate lineart with this program? I'm going crazy!
This helped me remember what I forgot. Thanks a ton!
Do you know how many years I’ve been struggling with this?? Thank you!
What is after Shift F5? My image is stuck with quick selection
Dude i have been searching for this for daysssss u helped me alot! Ive been frustrated cusi got no idea how to select the line art
thanks I really needed this. I want to scan some of my hand drawn sketches for t-shirt designs and I needed to edit out the background for different colored shirts. Would I just need to save the project with the transparent background in order to print the image on shirts? also, would this be possible on gimp?
Yeah just save as transparent 300dpi file. I dont know anything about gimp.
Edit>Fill... (shift+F5)
saved me m8
How can i fill white colour to the background
Hello! When i choose the paint bucket tool to fill my sketch the colours doesn't appear right. I can only choose between bright red/blue/green/yellow/pink black and white. Does anybody knows why? great video and inspiring!
This is so helpful, I've tried downloading preset actions for this, and though they had plenty of actions put in, it deleted a good part of the grey shading in manga panels.
This one, you just record a few actions, and even some of the slight grey doesn't get removed and has the right opacity, it's really perfect--thank you so much.
Very helpful, I am now going to have happy manga colouring times.
The sweltering napkin oddly itch because bucket precisely save outside a youthful mouth. earthy, fascinated peer-to-peer

When I paint, the whole drawing becomes black, no matter what color I choose
Bro you just saved me $250 bucks they were trying to charge me for doing this.! Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much
Ten Hundred, please help! I'm stuck at where the Line art doesn't float like yours did, and the step about popping in a white back drop. Any clarification would be great!
Love your stuff... but man you forgot to mention creating new layer and swapping it with the background layer, took me a bit.
Hi, I have been trying unsuccessfully to follow the instructions in the tutorial but for some reason the line art is not separating at the very end, Am I missing an important step that you failed to mention< i am good till the fill part of it, I deselect the line drawing and then try to move but nothing happens! Can you please help, thanks!
When I do this, my background still has a grey tinge that I am unable to get ride of. Does the original need to be super white to begin with?
I did everything exactly as you said but at this point 3:21 the white background from the lineart is not separated.
I was following you until just after you filled the line art with black. You then were able to move the art around and I am not able to do that. I also can't see how you are dropping in the white background.
does this work if the lines are WHITE and the BG is BLACK?
When I put in the white back ground it gives me the shadows and junk from before adjusting contrast
keep trying it but it just doesnt work. i still have the marching ants after going through the steps over and over and the paint bucket keeps painting everything.
why it doesn't fill in white background on new layer..pls help
Does anyone have the link to the next video (coloring and shading) of this piece? I know he has another one, but I like the pacing of this a lot.
Just used these 2 vids with my own art. Thankyou Mr Hundred.
I’m really fucking stoned but that was so sick
..............OK Holy F'n Shit...THIS IS THE BEST LINE ART SEPARATION VIDEO ON UA-cam. WTH!!!!! seriously, the number videos for like 30 mins that do 100 steps. I JUST followed this and got it in one go!!!!. CLEAN line art separation in like 2 mins FLAT. THANK YOU TEN HUNDRED YOU ARE THE BEST DUDE!!!!!!!!!! CHAMP... "Give this Man a like and share, he deserves it!" legend

Thank you so much! This was very helpful even though it’s an old tutorial
Is there a way to remove all gray and white shading from a black and white sketch?
