This, absolutely this. You have literally reawakened my playing. I’m super-mediocre but the feel of the strings beneath my fingers and the harmonic pulse of tasty intervals just salves my soul. Thanks for the lessons, the laughs and the licks. You’re the man. Nick from the UK
Normally I try to stand out from the group/crowd, but not with this statement. I'd like to believe we all stand together about this. Pay no attention to the naysayers, as stated Sir, You're the Man.
Earlier today I was sitting on the couch perusing UA-cam and landed on a gear review to engage in. My gf was also on the couch within earshot. Once she heard the UA-cam video begin she said, “Aw man, I thought you were going to watch a Tom lesson. I like listening to him sometimes.” I then made the “I won’t watch the next episode without you” promise.
Hey tom, I can't grasp every chord you play or why you play it, or every lead lick or why that scale works over the 17 unique chords you played, but I grab onto one small morsel from each lesson, and I still have improved considerably. Thanks for taking your time to do these. I keep coming back for the morsels.
Sometimes watching Tom I get the feeling I'm about a fifth grade guitar student trying to hang with guys going for their PhD. But, like yourself I manage to pick up some small thing that helps me improve. So, I hang in there...
Tom, Tim Pierce has told us of a few of the bigger hits he played on, would you be happy to share some of your great sessions......would love to hear of some. Take care buddy.
Hello from the Isle of Man, what I really like about you is that you’re an awesome guitarist , you know you’re an awesome guitarist but you’re not an asshole about it . I’ve met so many great musicians over the years who are total bell-ends , yet you seem such a cool , level headed guy. Respect dude 👍
Uncle Larry, I always feel like everything is going to be all right after I watch your videos. No matter what’s going on! You possess an energy that this world needs more of. Keep up the good work.
Hey Tom... I remember back in March or April seeing your video thumbnail appear on my UA-cam page. I thought who is this hack sitting in his garage!?!? I kept blowing past you... today, it’s one of the things I look forward to the most on youtube. Much Love from Cleveland!!! Thank you!!!
Tom - Just wanted to say thank you for these lessons. I'm 63 years young and have been playing since I was 8. You make each lesson like you're at a jam learning from another (MUCH) more advanced guitarist. Thanks for sharing all that you do. Also thank your wife and kids for giving you the time to do so. God Bless you man.
Hey Tom , the more you do this the more your humility comes across you're a really good dude I was super intimidated by you the first time I saw your gear review now after seeing this for months you're just a really down to earth solid person thanks for putting your time into all this helps me a great deal.. your a true inspiration for this 60-year-old guitar player.
Tom. You manage to play the hardest shit that doesn't sound hard and I mean that with the highest praise. Its so musical and the voice leading is so on point that your hella complex inversions, stretches and melodic bending within chords never sounds like, "heres a 6 note complex chord, jazz, etc etc". It always sounds complete, for lack of a better word, fully realized and orchestrated. That, to me, is the understated beauty and achievement of your playing and a thing all guitar players should aim towards. Musical. Thanks as always man
Love everything about this you old buzzard! Hard thing to do is to tune out all the negative - that's our world - who knows why. Keep up the great work Tommy - you are bringing joy to world. For those who are not lucky enough to be a friend of Tom (or in my case, an old acquaintance), he is as genuinely decent as he appears.
We had a Buzzard radio station in Indianapolis when I was a kid. Lots of album oriented rock. The station IDs had a monster truck voice guy, saying real slow and deep, "WNAP...THE WRATH OF THE BUZZARD!!!!" The station sponsored an annual raft race that was the stuff of legends. Listeners built homemade rafts that rarely stayed afloat, got drunk out of their minds, dropped acid and sometimes got naked as they raced down White River through the center of Indianapolis. All sponsored by a radio station. The 70s were awesome. And more importantly, god bless Dan Baird
Hey Tom, touring with Joe Walsh looks like it was an incredible experience. Truly inspiring to us out here. Is there anyone out there who you’d happily go on the road with today? (Without Covid) Even though you predominantly are a studio player these days. Keep on with the incredible videos, so grateful for the time you take to share all of your knowledge with the us. Best wishes from Yeovil, England 🇬🇧
You know it's gonna be a good day when you're sitting over your morning cup of tea, wearing your "Hello, Class!" tee and logging into UA-cam shows that Uncle Larry has posted a new video.
I have only been listening for about 5 episodes, but I am hooked on how Tom plays and speaks. I especially enjoyed his rig rundown that I watched yesterday. Pure gold! God bless and keep on rockin'!
Teachers teach, students imitate first, then develop their own ideas. It happens in every topic and school subject. You've proven that YOUR teachers did exactly that. You have to play enough and put in the time to find your own voice. Thanks for being the teacher Tom!
Dude, I love the phliosophical perspective you have on everything. Love that you seem grounded, and thoughtful about all things - especially the guitar! Thanks, Uncle Larry.
"Good artists borrow, great artists steal." Its a poetic way of saying that, if you're really great at your creative work, you cover your tracks so seamlessly, no one can really tell where your influence came from. You know. But the audience doesn't because, like you pinpointed so well around 11:45 ish, it's all about making something your own, re-presenting it in an original light. Thanks for all this good stuff, Tommy. Keep it up.
Who else is first thing checking out the back of the garage, what has moved, what has changed? Ok, I might be bored out of my mind recovering from a femoral neck fracture, but that orange bass drum ;-) caught my eye right away. Ah, Tom, can't tell you how much enjoyment and light you bring into my day. Cheers from Germany, Sven
This guitar sounds so rad!! I love it! Just wanted to say that my green Homeskoolin’ shirt finally arrived. It took 3 months to get to the Netherlands. It really is very comfy! Thanks Tom! Keep rocking!
This series of videos is gold. I can't think of a more meaningful expenditure of time for guitar players other than actually practicing. Nothing stopping us from doing both. Thanks so much Tom, you're a combination of taste, soul, and guitar wizardry with a sort of charisma that keeps me (and my wife, a singer, non-guitar player) eagerly awaiting every episode of Homeskoolin'. I hope it continues after covid.
Uncle Larry, your commitment to the small details is out of this world. Never more evident than in this episode, where, watching on my iPhone in landscape mode, when I hit the volume up button, the little white volume line that appears on the iPhone screen is perfectly aligned with the strip light on your ceiling. Don’t tell us that wasn’t planned, ye little beauty. Keep up the awesome work!
The upside of Covid is that people like yourself have been sharing so much positive knowledge and vibes. Your show is something that people will archive. I come back to some of these multiple times.
Hey Tom, simply wanted to thank you for introducing us to Gordon Mote! Gordon is an absolute treasure and I subscribed immediately to his new channel. Cheers! Jerry
Congrats on the 40K sub club! Not that it matters. Here's to many more . You are imparting gratuitous knowledge upon the interwebs and it is vastly appreciated. Thank you for that!
I have no problem dropping everything I'm doing at work to catch a Homeskoolin. Like Dave said, Tom has a way of making you feel like he's talking directly to you. Ive been hooked since the beginning and would personally like to thank Uncle Larry for getting me through home lock down while it lasted. I think I'd be in the corner dribbling on myself by now. Thanks Tom for all your wisdom, insight and music!!
Diggin that red on red! I cant say enough how much I personally enjoy your uploads, ATM not one guitar player or musician does what you do for me! Mighty terrific sir Tom, Thanks as always cheers! (To sound like your uncle larry put all your shit on an old work bench) hehe
Tom you are absolutely right to protect your work. It is free for all of us to watch, listen to and enjoy. But that does give anybody the right to take it and use it for their own purposes. Too many people seem to think that everything they see on line is free to take and use. People that don’t get it don’t get a lot of things in life!
Doctor, Looking back on all the knowledge and ideas I’ve picked up from is unreal. Lessons with someone of your caliber would cost bookoo dinero and your willing to serve up the medicine for free. Absolutely appreciated! Forever grateful. God bless brother.
Hey Uncle Larry, a million thanks for your advise today. For years i have been almost ashamed that i didn't sound like anybody else (not that i am any good). Usually i just feel dumb. Though i am always hungry to learn from greats like you, it always ends up sounding like me (for better, and usually worse). Today you gave me hope that maybe i am on the right track after all. Like most here, i am so thankful for all you are sharing, a real and honest bloke!
❤️🎸🤘🏼 Rock on, Tom!! Thank you again for sharing your talent, your musical wisdom, session stories, and for letting us hang with you for a while each time. The negative Nelly’s don’t belong here. Nothin’ but love from ALL your Homeskoolin’ Homies!!
Ehi Tom!! 5 or 6 negative comments can't compromise the Magic and the Preciousness of this experience. You're not only a 24 working musician at top level (... Gianna Nannini WTF?!?! 🤣😎) , you are a true poet of the six strings - like Bill Frisell or something - with a r'n'r flavor. And the way you treat us is.... PerfecT!! (sounds extreme but can't find any other word). And we are A LOT. Thnx man.
🌿 What a great red color. 🌿 Nice you found time to do another episode, was waiting for it. Re-viewed some older ones. What a legacy you're putting out. The quality is exceptional. Words of a seasoned pro. There is plenty to return to.
Like many of your classes, this fantastic piece of music deserves a place on the album that we hope will appear some time. Thanks as always for the inspiration.
You make the music that makes scenes from a movie comes to mind, then you play it perfectly with your feel or approach to the song. I'm pretty old & have gone through a lot of music and players as well but your stuff fills the bill from what a person needs from music, your so special in this world of everything music , yours delivers thanks Tom
Hey Tom, saw you on tour with Vince Gill a couple of years ago in Greenville SC. I was so excited to see that you were playing that night, unfortunately Vince said you had the flu and had stop playing about halfway through the show! It was still awesome to see you play for the short amount of time you did! You rock, sir! BTW... you probably wouldn't remember me, but I used to work at World Music Nashville down in Bellview about 15 years ago. You were always the most down to earth session guy that shopped at the store!
Hi Tom. After listening to you on this channel and looking at your studio credits it seems to me your playing style is just extreme musicianship! Always tasteful tone and note choices, always in tune and in time, always correct. Don't take this the wrong way but I find it hard to recognize your playing on a recording because your "style" is to play a part the suits the song. You of course are able to do that because of your broad musical knowledge and appreciation and skill. Thanks so much for sharing your gift with us! From SK 🇨🇦
Hey Tom, here is a message from the other side of the ocean. I discovered your lessons, they are helping me through the lockdown. Beautiful piece of music, makes me show off to my friends and family hahaha! Thanks and greetings from The Netherlands! Vincent
@@501chorusecho Thanks for your response! I'm looking forward to the album. When is the expected release date? By the way, the left hand thumb stretching is a challenge but it's getting better and better👍 All the best, Vincent Jansen. jansen@glr.nl
I love how all of your loops sound like ready to go songs. I've often thought man someone is going to try and steal that and write lyrics to it. Love your playing its so melodic! Thanks Tom I for one really appreciate all of what your doing. I've gone back to start watching everything from the beginning after I found your channel through Tim Pierce!
Hey Tom, yes we all fish around until we stumble on something that catches our ear. However a vocabulary like yours? There is no doubt you deserve every accolade. You are inspiring!
Words cannot portray the beauty in the melody of the beginning jam. What tells me that Tom has special talent - big lick and chord library is one thing, crafting a tune that stirs the soul is quite another. Love your shit Tom, keep on keeping on brother man.
Hey Tom, very inspirational playing today. I'm not long back playing guitar after a decades long lay off. You have fired me up. Every-time I watch your show I learn something new and my playing gets better. Keep up the great work. Love you man
I came over from Blue collar Logic, and man, am I glad I did! He was wrong, and sooner or later we all are at one time or another. You play with incredible feeling!
Hi Tom. Not only do I like it, I fucking love it. I have learned so many different voicings from listening and watching your videos here. Thanks man. Please never stop. Paul, England. (favourite is maj 7 triad on ADG strings)
Hi Tom, my HomeSkoolin‘ shirt arrived today. It took 12 days from Tulsa to Germany which I think is great. You all better keep an eye on your USPS. And for your guitar stuff: Keep it going. I learn a lot from you. Thanks.
Voice leading is so important and you got that thing nailed down to a tee. Whenever you come up with something like that I can’t help but think you should turn that into a song with Sarah. That’s not just guitar playing man that’s music. Massive fan thank you.
For later 0:00 intro jam 2:27 greetings 3:29 VCB 1 how long for ideas 4:26, 5:22 VCB 2 more on getting ripped 6:19 VCB 3 pre-corona wants 7:38 VCB 4 sound in your head 9:44 VCB 5 What are you using? 11:22 VCB 6 how to steal 14:24 intro jam voice leading
I first heard this on the album and have been completely obsessed with this tune. Glad to find the source… I was close on my own but not close on your voicings :) Those are quite a stretch!
Tom, I find the little slices of music and experience you share here an absolute *delight*. Always inspiring, and they always make me smile (somewhat enviously). Thank you.
Masterful playing by Little Tommy plus the great lesson and I want to thank you for turning me on to Church of the Cosmic Skull really loving their music and hope one day when this shit storm ends to see them live. PS I would really like to see you do a live gig as well. :)
THANKS Tom, Your lessons have given me a ton of confidence to just release my fretboard knowledge and play more to the song rather than just drive my way through it and I appreciate that!
Hey Tom, appreciate you being cool Uncle Larry hanging out with us around the virtual campfire telling stories and having a chat about this and that. Life is good!
...very nice. I’m here to hear you, oh and I’m here because Dave Morrison said some really great things about your music. Now I don’t even know what kind of music Dave is into but I certainly am digging your sounds right now. I will be checking out more of your videos...thanks to Dave (Morrison). 👩🏼🎨🌵😎
I wish you made backing tracks in you tube.. I love sitting here and picking along with you. It's like you reading my brains. I hear it like it's always been there. Thanks
Aw man, you blow my mind. Yesterday’s shred was off the cuff and today’s blissful jam took 20 minutes?! What an insane level of musicality and proficiency. Cheers for answering my question. Keep up the amazing work on the channel, it’s so inspiring and motivating. Homeskoolin’ is hands down the best thing to come out of this pandemic.
Chapters 00:00 - Intro mellow, bluesy jam 02:25 - Howya doing, class! 03:21 - Viewer Comment Bin 03:29 - How long to come up with jams? 04:25 - Protecting Intellectual Property 05:23 - Gracious manner / Trolls 06:19 - Missing most in pre-Corona? 07:38 - Session, acheiving sound 09:44 - Amp and speaker? Hey Tom, any negative comments you get... pay no attention... we are very grateful for all you share with us. Thanks!!
This, absolutely this. You have literally reawakened my playing. I’m super-mediocre but the feel of the strings beneath my fingers and the harmonic pulse of tasty intervals just salves my soul. Thanks for the lessons, the laughs and the licks. You’re the man. Nick from the UK
Hell yes. Little Tommy we love you man. Thank you so fucking much. Keep on rockin!!!
What? Negative somethin’?! Who? Where? Bring it to me. ThankS Tom. Another sweet feeling groove. ❤️
Normally I try to stand out from the group/crowd, but not with this statement.
I'd like to believe we all stand together about this.
Pay no attention to the naysayers, as stated Sir, You're the Man.
If you have to turn a sound way up in a mix to be heard, you have the wrong sound. Perfectly articulated Tom!🔥
Rick!
yesterday it was Firebird Face-Melt...today Firebird Soul-Fire .... from the first note
Dre'a C Does this mean we can expect Firebird Suite soon? Neato.
I broke that promise the next day :)
Calyn Clark less than 12 hours
Your girlfriend sounds amazing!
Hey tom, I can't grasp every chord you play or why you play it, or every lead lick or why that scale works over the 17 unique chords you played, but I grab onto one small morsel from each lesson, and I still have improved considerably. Thanks for taking your time to do these. I keep coming back for the morsels.
I second this Comment. Thank you Sir.
Yes I'd like that too!
me too!
Go to all music .com and check out his credits. It’s deep
Thatd be cool.

You've got the Midas touch, GOLD just pours out of those fingers.
“If you have to turn it way up, then it’s the wrong sound” is an excellent tip!
Otis Gibbs That’s the Indianapolis I know!
You should definitely consider adding this one to that album of yours your working on! You make my days happier all across the globe! Thank u Tommy!
Hey Tom, touring with Joe Walsh looks like it was an incredible experience. Truly inspiring to us out here. Is there anyone out there who you’d happily go on the road with today? Great question!
Yes! Would love to hear this answer.
You know it's gonna be a good day when you're sitting over your morning cup of tea, wearing your "Hello, Class!" tee and logging into UA-cam shows that Uncle Larry has posted a new video.
It certainly brings a good something into the day, yes.
That’s the nicest bird I’ve seen! Lovely playing! ❤
I have only been listening for about 5 episodes, but I am hooked on how Tom plays and speaks. I especially enjoyed his rig rundown that I watched yesterday. Pure gold! God bless and keep on rockin'!
Mystical chords and then adding bends with the pinky..... Baaaaaad!!! :-)
Thanks again, a true gift for the guitar playing community!!!
You’re the man Tom. Sending positive energy your way brother. Those that stand with you appreciate you!
Hey Tom, how about a homeskoolin Cleveland Rocks 🎸 t shirt with the the redbird on the shirt. BTW have you heard Robert Jon and the Wreck?
Teachers teach, students imitate first, then develop their own ideas. It happens in every topic and school subject. You've proven that YOUR teachers did exactly that. You have to play enough and put in the time to find your own voice.
Thanks for being the teacher Tom!
I can just sit here and melt into these gorgeous sounds, no problem!! Thanks for this window of beauty in a world so desperately in need of it. Peace.

Hey Tom - just to say that music was a thing of beauty. Thanks man

Congrats on the 40K sub club! Not that it matters. Here's to many more . You are imparting gratuitous knowledge upon the interwebs and it is vastly appreciated. Thank you for that!
Shades of Shine On Your Crazy Diamond in that tune... love it !
The descending chord part sounds amazing so sweet. Such a lovely tune. Realease an album!..I'll be all over it!
Tom, You are simply the best...on my way BACK to the tip jar!!
This piece moved straight through my soul. Perfect for the mood I’m in and the rainy day here in Kentucky.
What a beautiful piece. Beauty guitar, too.
Beautiful tone. Brought a tear to my eye. That's why I love guitar! 💚🎸
Good lord. That was unbelievable. Phrasing was beautiful. Dayum!!!
Hey Uncle Larry...just wanted you to know how much I look forward to your tales of wisdom and inspiring lessons. A million thanks!

Like Dave said, Tom has a way of making you feel like he's talking directly to you.

Cool composition Tom, thanks for sharing! Love the bird.

That intro got me emotional... Really the most beautiful thing. Absolutely love it
full song is on his album. This was the birth of it
🌿 What a great red color. 🌿
Nice you found time to do another episode, was waiting for it.
That intro was beautiful Tom! The tone from those P90s - such underrated pickups.

Hey Tom, you're great and very inspiring. Much love from your Ohio followers
Hey Home Skooler's, it looks like the Guitar House of Tulsa has restocked the T-shirts. I picked up a couple this afternoon.
Hey Tom, here is a message from the other side of the ocean. I discovered your lessons, they are helping me through the lockdown. Beautiful piece of music, makes me show off to my friends and family hahaha! Thanks and greetings from The Netherlands! Vincent
Thanks man this one is gonna be a part of the instrumental album dean deleo and i are making...its turning out nice
@@501chorusecho Thanks for your response! I'm looking forward to the album. When is the expected release date? By the way, the left hand thumb stretching is a challenge but it's getting better and better👍 All the best, Vincent Jansen. jansen@glr.nl
So many layers to this very vocal arrangement that I'm thinking you just made up off the top of you head. Thanks great sounds
Thanks.
awesome playing as always, Tom!
Voice leading is so important and you got that thing nailed down to a tee. Whenever you come up with something like that I can’t help but think you should turn that into a song with Sarah. That’s not just guitar playing man that’s music. Massive fan thank you.
For later

Thanks man this is going to take some work to get just some of this ... I've said it before never change Tom the best and most helpful stuff on UA-cam
Thank you.
Just fantastic ! Keep it coming !!!
We need a shirt that says “I can do it with my finger, but I like to do it with my thumb”
Masterful playing by Little Tommy plus the great lesson and I want to thank you for turning me on to Church of the Cosmic Skull really loving their music and hope one day when this shit storm ends to see them live. PS I would really like to see you do a live gig as well. :)
One of my favs on the TTW album. Totally forgot it was previewed here! Uncle Larry is top notch!
You definitely have your own guitar style and sound Tommy....mission accomplished...you get your tone from any guitar you play
Wow..that intro was absolutely BEAUTIFUL.!! Thank you so much for what you do and share with us. We love ya.!!
Hey Tommy! Just wanted to say congrats on hitting 40K subs and thanks for the videos!
So smooth, even Mapco's finest roast couldn't compete with your Homeskookin' Uncle L. Thank you.
I just noticed that you always play a song or an arrangement you rarely noddle around. Thank you.
...very nice.
Thanks
His album trip the witch has this full instrumental song on it. He came up with the idea of it here on this video
