We're looking at a 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 Convertible in Crimson Red Pearl Paint. The car comes with the factory 400 CI V8 engine with a 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Joe Lichtenbert. Joe’s had this car since 2015. He shares he enjoys this cars look and combination of factory V8 and a 4 Speed made this car desirable for him.
    ENJOY!

This is absolutely beautiful!! When I was in High School a friend of mine mother drove a 1965 Olds Cutlass. Hers was a little worn because it was 10 years old at the time. I loved this particular body styling. That one year the Cutlass beat out the Chevelle in looks but every other year it was Chevelle. Chevelles were the number one muscle car!

My first car was a 1965 Cutlass Convt. too. Target Red with white buckets and a white top.. and the 330 engine. Was my first car I bought in 1973 when I was 18 ... Had a '67 425 engine bored 040 over, installed in the mid '80's , that car really had the power, lucky I didnt burn the trans.. Sold it in 2004, but body needed rear quarters, I used to live in St. Charles, IL. from 1990 till 2004.. Had it in Prescott, Az from 1975 to 1978, then drove it back to IL. I also had a solid Arizona 100% rust free '65 442 4 speed w/ a 390 posi rear end..I bought in 1977... 2 door holiday coupe, white W. red int. buckets, and 4 speed, console and the tach......missed that car too. sold it for 375.00 in 1978... really kick myself now...........................

Debatable, depending on the era. My father's 1976 Olds 98 had horrible factory paint. Their rocket V-8 at the time was unique in its engineering compared to other GM engines. Vehicles assembled at the Lansing plant generally had the best quality. Many A-body GM mid-sized cars of the 1960s came from flexible assembly plants that built cars from four divisions. The quality of their production depended more on the competence of the plant manager and labor relations rather than which make and model. A-body cars for the West Coast were built at the notorious Fremont Assembly (now Tesla).

@@bruceh92 The 1976 was mechanically sound and very comfortable...he bought it in 1979 and sold it in 1982 to someone who let it rot in the driveway. I loved that car and would have repainted it if it came to me. Before that he had a 1971 Impala Sport Sedan...no quality problems and my favorite of all his cars. Our relatives had a 1969 Delta 88 Royale Coupe, 1972 Delta 88 Royale Hardtop Sedan replaced with a 1973 of the same type. My grandfather had a 1964 Malibu SS coupe for 25 years.

A lot of cars seem to have done that. And Lou said it "what were they thinking", They were not. I think the best is the 1963 and '64 Impala SS that were mounted on the dash so you could see it and the speedometer at the same time at a glance. There were other Chevrolet's that mounted them in the dash but some had them mounted in place of the clock. Great right? I don't think they ever thought about a tach, just an after thought Like BartRicky says.

    Hey-ya Lou...
...where do you find these guys?? Joe Lichtenburg was that prototypical Midwest guy...rather quiet and unassuming; but then revealing a surge of charm and razor sharp wit and humor...another guy who makes you seem somewhat superfluous ( sorry, Lou, but he stole the show...)
This burgundy Cutlass sure is a sleeper...looking pretty conservative and stock.. at least before Joe tromps those 442 cubic inches of raging horsepower to life.. damnnnnn...
    ...and that butterscotch/caramel interior...WOWZERS...
Me thinks that Joe could fill an entire evening with hilarious tales from his past...maybe you should consider a second series, called "My Classic Car Guys"...just an idea....
Cheers, and as always, best regards,
    G. Clark (Greg) Bloomfield

    Goodday Lou,
Great story, huge fan with anything to do with 442 Oldsmobile. Just live them, always the underdog of the GM arsenal, but always ahead of it time.
And Joe sounds like a great lay back type of a guy who can tell a story or 2 from back in the days.
Great fun, 442 convertible in the sun.

Those "hubcaps" almost fooled me into thinking they were genuine wire wheels. Asians are pretty good with paint colors. To me, this comes closest to GM's vintage cranberry red

Great car Lou, my brother's buddy had the '65 f85 in blue with white interior not nearly as nice as the 442 but a cool car!! Doesn't 442 stand for 4 barrel, 4 speed and dual exhaust? Was my thinking about the numbers 😀thanks for sharing and as always "Howdy from Texas "!!

@@loucostabile :Nice review of a gr8 old 0lds. Ah,the good old days! "They sure don't make them like they used to".
To clarify the 4 4 2 was an option package offered by Oldsmobile on these models. The 442 stood for: 400 CID V8,4 speed (Automatic transmission was optional) and the 2 was for the dual exhaust system. It was a bit of a pricey package but well worth it if you willing to cough up the extra dough. Anyway you look at it, it adds up to a nice 10,hence the total sum of the numbers 4+4+2=10. You've been on a roll lately with your latest videos, '63 Buick Wildcat, '56 Ford Fairlane w/sky roof and '57 Buick Century. Forget about the 100k subscription, a 1M is more like it. I'm sure you'll get there eventually. Anyway have a gr8 God bless day and I hope to meet you someday with a gr8 ride. Don't know what it'll be but I hope something special.

Beautiful car Lou another great video as always. You dont see many of the early 442's around where I go to car shows. Usually it's the 68 through 72 442's that I see. But I like the looks of the early ones. My dad had a friend in high school that had one a 65 442 I think and this was in the early 1970s and he wrecked it one night when they were out street racing ran off the road and rolled it. That might be why I dont see many of them.

Lou you never miss the jack instructions in the trunk but you failed to do a slow pan on the sheet that gave all the particulars of his car. What is the HP of the engine? Did it have a posi rear end? How long was the restoration and what were the major things that he had to do? Is the interior all original?

As a kid, in a neighborhood of full of gearheads and fast cars, the fastest one in the neighborhood by a lot was one of these. His dad swapped in a cammed up 425 from a Olds 88. The kid who owned it was a lot like Whistlin Diesel, and the Dukes was a new show then, so that car got beat to death. It lasted a couple years in the hands of a complete idiot though, before he rolled it.
