I know you're probably joking and don't need some nerd like me to take it seriously, but you can't "just play a bass" in lieu of a baritone guitar. The string gauge, scale length, bridge, saddle, string tension, pickup placement, pickup type, pots, any capacitors, and then the entire signal chain after the guitar will make a bass sound entirely different from a baritone guitar even when tuned to the same pitch.
