Watching Alex climb is so relaxing and amazing. His climbing style is slow and controlled, he trusts every hold he uses even when some seem impossible. I wish I could climb like him.
beautifully made film! great production values and a lot more chill/relaxing than many climbing videos. makes me think the world needs a 3AM Climbing Radio channel with mellow music and nice climbing visuals, to go along with all the popular hypnotic lofi music channels :D
I feel like Alex has a risk budget where he sits down each year and says "okay, I've got only this much danger I can take, do I spend it all on Cap or do I split it up?"
I mean, if what you want to do is climb, and not have to worry about safety so much, then of course you get much more bang for your buck with sport climbing. He draws a parallel with his views on balancing danger when it comes to free solo climbing to trad. And remember, this is coming from one of the most prolific free solo climber.
I’m trying to figure it out too. I shazamed it over and over and got something different each time. None of them were correct. Why didn’t they just credit the musician at the end of the video?
@@KevinWoodland Weird, I had the same thing with Shazam, never seen that before (different result each time I try) . It's like this song is designed to defeat their algorithms. Damn, 'cause it's so good!
And now we know why North Face sponsors Alex. I specifically purchase North Face because they sponsor Alex. Why? I want Alex to continue to be paid to climb because he inspires and entertains me.
I speak pretty good Japanese, did a degree in it . I regularly went to a wall in Nagoya, the AIM wall when I taught English there. I used to ask the locals for partners to climb outdoors, as many of them climb outdoors. Nobody invited me. I guess if you are famous, not so much of a problem.
That's a an individual problem for those people, not the all of Japanese people. or a problem with your communication skills. Your personal experience may not apply to everyone. My friends are always invited to trips and parties by Japanese people and are treated like family member. his child is playing at the neighbor's house until he gets home from work. He even participates in local festivals and is already living like a Japanese person. Japanese people treat open-minded foreigners who respect their culture like family. but foreigners who are negative, arrogant, and complain a lot are hated. And I have never met anyone who claims to be good at Japanese.
Does he climb the rocks first with gear then no gear? Or does he just go at it first try with no gear? Because if he does it with no gear after doing it with gear, at least he'll know that he could do it. Then when he goes solo, controlling his mind will be the only real test.
A J pretty sure he ALWAYS climbs a route on ropes first and gets all the moves down before he does it free solo. Has to know he can climb it because he can’t exactly come back down.
He spontaneously climbed part of a route on half-dome, but he usually climbs with a rope first. He spent years preparing for his free solo of El Capitan.
So true the allowance is so hard. I am just building a gym in hokkaido soon goner start my channel. If you interested please give it a look. Maybe starting in March.
Admittedly, I need to get educated in climbing terminology, but to me Honnold comes off sounding polite but a but snooty to his Japanese host. I'm like, "well if you really don't care about what they have to offer to you personally, then have a nice flight back."
あのアレックスオノルド氏が日本に来てたなんて、それだけでゾクゾクした

Super cool video.
"Why would anybody go trad climbing, when they can just sport climb?"--Alex Honnold 2018
Smart man!
Such a stupid statement! It's like saying to Alex Honnold, why would anyone climb free-solo when they can use a rope!
pacovl46 lmao so true

Oh nvm had to be north face since they sponsored lol
It must be "emergency jacket". yeah looks so cool but so expensive...
And now we know why North Face sponsors Alex. I specifically purchase North Face because they sponsor Alex. Why? I want Alex to continue to be paid to climb because he inspires and entertains me.

Trade climbers are calling Alex a heretic after listening to him say sport climbing is more fun😂

Tactical Chunder not really..most of the times yea. But he did onsight solo routes before:) just nothing major
And if he is on a route and sees that the next move is not possible to down climb, then he goes back down
@@@tacticalchunder1207 He spontaneously free climbs some routes for sure. There's no need to guess about it just watch more Honnold :)
