About Dude Dad:
Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 3 kids and over 300+ videos. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.
In addition to Dude Dad©, I have been in numerous TV shows, commercials, and have regular appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I will also be hosting my own TV show called "Super Dad" on the new Magnolia Network / Discovery+. Heidi and the kids will also be a part of the show. I am originally from the rural community of Howard, South Dakota.

Have no fear, the big tree didn't go to waste! I trimmed up the trunk and put it in the kids room!
I wondered when I was watching if it would have worked to just cut the bottom of the trunk off so that it would not have the huge empty spot at the bottom and just be a shorter tree. Glad you ended up doing that, and I'm sure the kids absolutely love having a tree of their own. 😍😍
No Christmas trees at Thanksgiving
It's very impressive you fellas do on one dates with your kiddos! 👧 👧 👶🏻 🧒🏻
Great example for other dads to see!
You can use the trimmings on the mantle!
You could have nailed on the lower branches, or cut the trunk shorter so it'd fit
Time spent with your kids is never ever wasted.
100%!
I love Juno’s hesitating yes when you asked if Heidi would like it 😂😂😂😂
Juno's response is the best ever! She's already figured out what Heidi would react.
Juno is a tiny Heidi
My Dad was in the Army and we lived in enlisted quarters. We went and cut a 12 foot tree. He cut 5 feet off the top and put in the room above. He had numerous officers and base housing stop by to inspect our home because enlisted didn’t get housing with the lofted ceilings. Also he tightly tied the lower limbs to get it in the door. When he cut that rope a limb blew out one of the bay windows.
Sounds like Clark Griswold !!😂
“A lot of sap in here! Looks great. A little full. A lot of sap.” - Clark Griswold🎄
I've always wanted to get a huge tree and wherever it hits the ceiling, cut that part off and put it upstairs so it looks like it goes through the floor
That’s great!
Like Colin Furze did? ua-cam.com/video/zIJgDW09Lns/v-deo.html
Awesome!
"Burke is 4 ft, 31 inches."
Nice callback to your Halloween video!
I’ve literally had this talk with my wife yesterday. Our living room could fit a 22ft tree. And I’m dead set on getting a 22ft tree.
That's be awesome!! Hope you get it 🤣
Holy cow!! With a big tree = that much more decorations so that tree could just light up your entire house🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ that size of tree just sounds bada**!!! Hope all goes well and hope this holiday season is full of good memories!! Be safe moving and setting up such a tree!
It is time!
😂😂😂😂
Do it i did a few years ago and now that's all everyone talks about when we talk Christmas. They always have to know how big our tree is
Such a sweet Daddy Daughter Day, for both girls!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 OMG.. That Tree AFTER He Finished!! 🤣🤣🤣🎄🎄🎄
We have cut our own live tree for 40+ years. We tried the tree farm a few times, but we like live cedars from the woods better. Finding and cutting the tree is most of the fun. When my kids were young we often cut our tree from a grove on a friend's farm. We could drive the truck to the grove, but I always had the family hike down and through the creek, through the woods, past the spring and pond, to the grove. Dragging the tree back and loading it was half of the adventure.
The grandkids take us now and we usually cut from a family farm. Cedar trees are annoying weeds in our region. It is no problem to find some delighted for you to cut one or more. Cedar trees are wimpy compared to traditional tree species, but cedar is local and free! When we added onto the house our space for a tree went from 7' ceilings to 14'. We usually put up a 12' tree. Going taller hits the ceiling fan. Grandkids meet us at the farm, select and help us cut the tree, then haul it to our house to set it up and decorate it for us. There's a certain age range where the tree saga is a delight. We have 34 grandchildren. We have an unending supply of the perfect ages for the tree event. I haven't decorated a tree in more than a decade. My job is to supervise finding and retrieving the best tree. The kids do the work!
Several years ago I decided to collect our tree and haul it on top of our 15 passenger (Yoder Toter) van forgetting that vans have no opening windows and a slider door. There's no easy provision to tie a 15'+ tree (trees always look smaller in the woods) to the roof of a van without roof racks. I also tend to forget that we built this house with only 36" doors. We have shoved trees about 10' in diameter through our doors. Cedar trees are flimsy and this helps.
Cedar trees dry out and drop tiny sharp needles much worse than commercial tree species. I solve the cleanup problem by pruning off the branches with the tree still set up. The branches are tossed out a widow and the needle mess is largely controlled. The branches are tossed down into the pickup and the little that is left on the ground is chewed up quickly with the mower.
Christmas tree day is a big event for us. The kids keep it fun. If a grandson is sporting a new chainsaw we will likely use it. I prefer to make the short people use one of my grandfather's (their great great grandfather's) saws. My favorite is his wooden framed buck saw that's 100+ years old. Christmas tree cutting has been its only use for decades.
Your ridiculous tree and your enthusiasm parallels what we do annually. 45 years and always a live tree...
My dad always took the tiny tree out if the garden and put it back after christmas. My parents buy a christmas tree once every ten years or so. Planting them back doesn't make them last forever but they do last waaaaaaay longer like that. They also always put real candles in, still. It's pure magic.
This is how you Family! Love the video.
Recently found your channel..... love the humor and I love how ya'll love each other, we need more of that in this world. Happy Thanksgiving 😊
Yes .it is a must have... a real Tree That is for me the smell of Christmas.. I know it sounds stupid .
But the smell of the Tree reminds me of my childhood .I still remember the real Candles on the Tree and the Bucket filled with Water in a corner just in case. Beautiful memories.
Happy Thanksgiving and happy Holidays everyone.🤗
Doug finally got the canopy!
Love a real tree!!! Miss having them. Thanks for sharing, hilarious as always!!!!
You bringing that tree 🌲 home reminded me of Clark Griswold. At least you went to a tree lot and not out into the snowy forest 👍🏼😆. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
The one year my family got a real tree while I was growing up, my dad absent-mindedly poured milk into the bottom and our tree stank for the rest of the season. 🤣
Eeeew! 😂
finger air quotes "absent-mindedly"
Oh my god! Hahahaha
You had fun with your daughter that makes Christmas the best for her
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!! You guys are AWESOME!!!!!
You're killin me Smalls!! 🤣🤣
Nice one.
Hey. Why not just cut the tall one? So the middle part becomes the bottom.
My husband surprised me with my first EVER real Christmas tree this year! We've been using the same Christmas tree we inherited from his mom about 8 years ago! So it's gotten some good use out of it. But I've been begging for a real one forever and he came through, completely surprised me! It's amazing!
How do you hit the nail on the head every time. I would pay a stupid amount of money to have a few drinks with you and Heidi.
That was hilarious. And appropriately sad. But mostly funny!
Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoyed the video.
Your daughter looks just like Heidi! She’s super adorable!
We got our 8 foot fake tree for free the local school was throwing it out so I grabbed it. We got it for free and use it every year for years. Nothing wrong with it! Once we decide to get another tree we decided we will make it into wreaths. So we recycled!! We get those scented pine things to hang on it!
I'm so envious! I can't use a real tree because my cat Vinny is convinced it's an essential food group. Dang it!
Dads are so much fun !!!🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
You did really good on your daddy daughter day have a good evening and merry Christmas
This was hilarious 😂
Beautiful! I can't wait for my hubs to have our house done by next Christmas! We are totally going to have our first real Christmas tree then! 🎄🙌
I'm happy to see you having daddy daughter time. ❤
"That's not going anywhere." - Every man after he straps something down in the back of his truck.
Sad story: Tree gets chopped down, tree gets chosen by a special family, tree gets decorated, loved, glorified. Tree gets to be in the Christmas pics. Tree gets surrounded by gifts and happy people. Jan 1st - poor tree gets tossed out for garbage pickup. Heartbreaking.
Just like my dad😂😂😂
Poor Burke couldn't take a tree home so his wife could give him a high five...lol
Haha. We’ll find berk an even better tree!
At Christmas, my dad basically pretends he’s Clark Griswold - complete with a giant tree. Merry Christmas!
A real dad lets the kids play with glitter!
"Is mommy gonna love it!?"
"YEeeahhhh...."
Dude dad for the win!
My 16 month old daughter says dude dad all the time! It reminds me of your videos! It's the cutest thing ever! Love you guys!
The abilities of this man and woman are awesome, but seriously dad dude!!! You are amazing in your carpentry!!! 🙏💛💛💛
"Little full. Lot of sap." 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I love a natural tree BUT, I love breathing more. I have allergies so I can't have a natural tree. The way I look at it is that, while the real tree is indeed biodegradable, by reusing the same tree every year, I am not taking a valuable natural resource from the land, nor am I adding to a landfill.
Plus, I don't have to keep it watered to prevent my home from consumed by a massive conflagration, or sweep up pine needles daily and when the tree goes bye-bye.
So, as beautiful as the real tree is 😍, it's not the option for me. 😕
Love your videos! ✌🌻
Same here.
I didn't know I was allergic, and my first Christmas with my kids we got a real potted tree. First day was fine, second day I got stuffy, third day my face was swollen beyond recognition and I required my inhalers to allow oxygen down my lungs 😂. Lesson learned lol
Yep! Same!
Every single year we cut a tree off of our farm, and I veto all the small ones and get a huge one. Then when I get it to the house I admit that it’s way too big and cut about 3 ft off the bottom, then take it inside, then back outside for another 18” off, and we end up with the top 6” bent on the ceiling. I make my living using calipers and a tape measure as an engineer, but it’s never occurred to me to use a tape measure - I don’t plan on changing anything this year.
Just wanted you to know, I’ve binge watched your show Super dad and I love it. So inspiring. I hope you make many more episodes
Thanks Debbie!!!
I got Discovery + JUST so I could watch Super Dad - great show!!
Just watched this over on your fb page. Great video! ❤
Thanks! I posted a photo of the big tree in the kids' room over there too!
Nothing like the thrill of rummaging through the garage looking for the box that has your tree in it.
I guess I’m not the only one who thought of National Lampoons Christmas Vacation! Love it!!
Keep em both!! Not gonna lie....also diggin the ingenuity of the tp roll to hold Juno's star up! 👍
Yay! Daddy & Daughter time!!!
Beautiful tree 🌳! I'm just so very allergic to real trees!
I love how you threw the lights on it real quick🤣 Im not aloud to do lights, living with a OCD person.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Happy Ending 😊
Didn’t the store have that stretch mesh sleeve to put on the tree for transport? It helps keep the tree narrow until you get it inside. Nice of Burke to let you save face by giving you his tree! Burke for the win!
They probably got their tree from a tree Farm?
You are awesome!
Your content is Amazing , (content question for you ?) what mike do you use for your videos. ? if I may ask ?
4 foot 31 inches!! 🤣🤣
I always get super envious about real Christmas Trees- sadly I'm allergic to them :(
Real tree. Better tree. For sure.
Hey dude dad, where you gonna put a tree that big? 🤣
We always get a 14.5' tree for our house with a 36" door and I gotta say, you weren't trying hard enough with the door.
30 years ago we went to the company owned property to cut down a tree. The first clue should have been how much longer it was than the grand caravan we strapped it to. We had 9 1/2 foot ceilings. The scratches in the ceiling paint were there for a good 10 years. Lovely memories.
When I was a kid, we would go along the powerline and cut our own wild tree. You can pay to cut your own wild tree in the White Mountains National Forest in New Hampshire. I have yet to do that.
This is me.
Every year.
We always had a real tree growing up until my dad became a fire fighter. Then he banned them and now, even as an adult, we are only allowed artificial trees now! I miss the smell, but not the mess😂
The smell of a real Christmas tree is priceless👃🏼🎄
best part of Christmas trees? the SMELL OF COURSE
Makes me miss my husband sooo much.. He passed away 2 years ago, and our kids are grown with their own families, nd we just don't do much of a Christmas anymore.. .😥. This reminds me of all our Christmases.. nd I miss it so very much..
What you need is an 8' slider, that way you'll have 4' panels, you can bring in anything, almost! 😃
Or WAS that an 8 footer!?
🤣🤣
Biggest Charlie Brown tree ever
watch out for spiders when your pickin out trees yall!
10mm socket emergency backup 🤣👍👍👍👍👍ps I'm the 12mm guy
It's a giant charlie brown tree and I love it. Burke is a pretty good sport.
And after Christmas my goats want all your trees!!!!!
That’s awesome!
Children should have a real tree for Christmas 🎄.
I want to experience Christmas with a real tree but my husband's sister- in- law is highly allergic to them.
I envy your high ceilings. I would get a tree that tall too but slimmer. Lol. I always get a live tree every year.
Griswolds!!!
A little full!! Little sap...
That's fun. I have good memories with real trees as a child but my kids don't get that experience. I inherited my grandma's allergies to evergreen trees. It showed it's ugly face when I was in high school.
My husband finally got his dream of a 17 foot tree last Christmas. We’re having this exact conversation now 😂 he loved the giant tree, me not so much
💚
We had birds nests in one tree. The next year, a chipmunk came running out while we were decorating.
Funny, we just got our tree today
I remember going out to an actual Tree farm each year and cutting one down.
I miss my real trees but can't get them as of right now.
Maybe latter on in the future I'll get my real trees again
i c u blurring the new shed out in the back for next EXTERIOR RENOVATION vid
Where would we be without Chevy chase and national lampoons!
Clark Griswold vibes. If you know you know.💜😉
That looks beautiful but What's up with the big tree & the 10mm socket
More room for gifts
Rule number 1= GO BIG!!!!!
My family has always had an artificial tree, but we use the same tree for as long as I can remember. If not longer.
I’m allergic to pine/ Christmas tress so I’ll stick to the fake ones.
Hey Griswold, where you gonna put a tree that big?
4 foot. 31 inches🤣
The ending is funny because here in Des Moines IA The Lumber Yard is a strip joint. 😄
We get a real tree every year Wisconsin is a big tree farm state there is one next to our field
