My grandfather was a kali master. He trained me on his farm. Punching and kicking banana trees to desensitize the hands and feet to punching woods and making me do hard work. He said working will shape my body so that I can start training. Then the sticks, making the hands less sensitive helped because my grampa hit my hands a thousand times. It hurts but not that much. Until today, I never beat him once. Even if he's 79 at a height of 4.9 and took me down on a tackle hand to hand.

Kali is beautiful to watch. I'm incorporating Kali for kids with our Kajukenpo Karate in our dojo. The kids LOVE the routines, and they learn to be facile with their first weapon. I find it also vastly improves their other Karate skills.
Kali is a knife fighting but silat means touch combine this as a aspect of defense and offense together a hunters and bird dancers practice we I as a Filipino thank you for learning our martial arts or tradition of warrior tribes
Kali is a big help and most effective in actual situations. Especially with me carrying my Tactical Flashlight for less lethal and legal option than knives.
Kali is too deadly for sports.. it's meant for offense and can cause death I think that's why it's not publicly taught. The best defense is to avoid conflict
there will always situations where you have to or force to deal with conflict either through work, conflicting ideas etc... in more extreme cases where it's a life and death scenario it's better than you know how to deal with it especially against someone who has an intent to kill or maim and you can't just avoid that to deal and to protect yourself is to make sure he can't harm you or kill you by disarming or disable him killing him is the last resort but unnecessary most of the time just make sure you stop him from chasing you and hurt you that's it.
i really want to learn kali. i just have an issue with being touched and touching, but i want to get past that so i can learn to defend myself and train my body. such a cool video
Best of luck in your training :) I've done martial arts for the past seven or so years now, although a bad injury that resulted in a disability has made training very difficult. I'm taking up Kali as soon as I can, because it's one of the few martial arts that I feel I'm still capable of, and it's just fascinating to me on top of that. Yes, very effective when I encountered series of actual street combats with murderer and trouble maker gang in my younger years. Constant practice is a must to maintain muscle reflexes and quickness in movements. Very good in empty handed fight against an armed with sharp weapon attacker. This system of fighting techniques is superior to neutralize 10 attackers. Strong stamina and endurance is needed to survive. Techniques if without stamina and endurance will make you dead.
I am trying to do martial arts I'm pretty happy to it. My coach always says that is we fall and we felt pain that is okay we just need to go back and try again. That really made me be inspired.

All Filipino should at least learn this Filipino martial art as part of our daily routine so as not other country will take advantage of us . Use this for defensive purpose And not just to take advantage of other and bully.
kali is not a martial art for self defense ...it is a martial art for offense. sticks are use for training only. Kali is use by marine soldiers in real fight using jungle knives, or bolos as an offense/ to kill their enemies.

You see how these guys practice with such concentration on technique, timing and patience? I would love to see this in a live spar vs people throwing away the technique and just swinging sticks around.
Im novice kendo practitioner, supposedly this summer I would use this rest period to enjoy and train, and maybe join a filipino martial arts... well of course, it was cancelled due to the pandemic...

First off, congratulations! There's video of Guro Inosanto demonstrating Filipino Martial Arts at the Smithsonian in yt channel FightingHQ. I believe they have a place in the US where you can inquire. I'm not really sure if Guro Inosanto go to different parts of the US to demo. If I'm not mistaken, they have a training center there (or dojo, is that how they call it?).

When I was young back in the 80s I had a fight with a SIGA in Tondo. Apparently, he was a martial artist. I ended the fight within a few seconds. I shot both of his legs. Apparently, he is still alive and never to set his foot in Tondo again (no pun intended)

Arnis kali saved my life and my school mates when we were in highschool some gangs or paternity hold grudges on us, they always wait on us to walk by in plaza and began following us mostly they're 5 to 4 people they dont have anything on them just bare handed. They first stood on my classmate to show their pride and punch him by surprise that's when i began to hit their member, one of them is seriously in pain so they began to run haha it was a funny story and the same time hilarious cause i still remember it, all thanks to my tutor or my master for teaching me the basics of Arnis kali art
I feel like is time for Kali to evolve. Learning the movements and techniques is nice. It feels like dribbling with a ball, or enhancing manual dexterity, being more aware about objects in hands and Body control. If some crazy fool runs at you with a knife, you will stil probably bleed out. Why not train 50% Dexterity and 50% crazy fool Situations. Last time i did this once in 15 attempts i managed a disarm with no injuries. Then again, a skater does how many...100 - 1000 Attempts to do a trick. So it is very much fun and wonderful what Escrima/ Arnis/ kali Schools train, but why not evolve one step further?
@@ARTDEVGRU247 a lot of attempts in a row of somebody trying to harm you. And in a smaller step, taking all the tiny key movements of a drill and include it in sparring step by step and vary from cautious sparring to 5 second sparrings. Could be a possibility. Evolution is hard to imagine it will look probably different.

@@goddessinyou654 I had a surgery so I got a little out of shape I worked construction 45 years, I was in better shape than most men half my age even after the surgery!!! With a profile name like goddess in you it seems the hardest thing you do each day is pull your ass away from the mirror!!!
