We don’t need dancers shaking their behinds, if they were majorettes back in the day yes, the flag team and M100 has precision and this is what makes us different not a bunch of weaves and butts all over the field.
I thought they were a little bit smaller over there but I believe it was kinda good because the others had to blow a little louder to make up for what was lacking and hopefully they stay in that habit mentality…
Imma need the 100 to decide if it wants dancers or not. We have some of the most talented female dancers in the country. Why not give them a showcase? Especially if you gonna have the flag core half-assing it. Make a decision already. Either we gone have dancing or we not.
@@MARCHING100PAPARAZZI Then what on earth were the flags doing this game? If they gonna dance in front of the band they need to be TIGHT. Not some people going left while others going right.
Dancing was not and has never been the issue; Dr. Foster felt that dance girls came off burlesque. While I don’t particularly agree with his opinion, dance girls were not in his vision for the Marching 100. There are many wonderful and talented dance lines throughout the HBCU band world that dancers can participate in, the Hundred is just not one of those organizations, respectfully. We’ll never stray from the image Dr. Foster desired for us to have. I really wish we could leave this topic alone.
@@LadyBMW08 I get and respect the history. The flag “dancers” in the stands were NOT upholding our standard of excellence. They were not tight or cohesive.
Not that this wasn't a good battle, because it was. Both bands sounded great. But for some reason after watching this battle a couple of time, I just don't feel the energy or excitement with it. Maybe I had to be there. But to me the 2007 and 2011 battle in ATL were to of the best and most exciting battles I've witnessed between these two Titans. Guess I'm living in the past lol.
The only thing about those battles they were in a dome. I much prefer outdoor battles. Acoustics are horrible in most domes. Unless it’s a smaller venue or setup like the BOTB for the Bayou Classic.
@@sufall96 Nope! The 07 game was the MEAC/SWAC Challenge to open the season which was played in a stadium not a dome. The 11 game was the Atlanta Classic which was in the Georgia dome. But that had nothing to do with the energy of the battle. It was back when the 100 was like 3-400 deep and the Juke was smaller than they are now but they would go blow for blow with each other. And I guess being that those were neutral site games, the whole atmosphere was just different.

If thats the case are DCI bands mediocre? Lol Every time yall say that for now on. Im going to assume you're saying Famu have the best musicians in the world, and thats flattering. THANKS for the view
IMO, SU’s drums were out of tune and gave a flat sound, and even though the arrangements were nice, it lacked balance. Every section can’t be loud all the time. Each section of the ‘100’ gave articulation in EVERY song, and played more than whole, half and qtr. notes.
Music is SUBJECTIVE! What’s good to one maybe bad to another! We all have PREFERENCE that doesn’t mean one is better than the other. FAMU: stop with the musicality excuse! Jazz was once thought as “non-musical” because it was unconventional! Just because other bands don’t approach music the way you choose to doesn’t make them less musical. If you want to get to arrangements MOST bands outside your ballads have far more difficult arrangements that require a higher level of execution. “Playing loud” is not unmusical this is a narrative you all need to let go-DCI bands play louder than damn near anyone and they aren’t seen as “non-musical”. It’s a defense mechanism you all use to feel better about not catering to Top 40 and sticking to your style-that’s fine just don’t diminish others for choosing other approaches SWAC Heads: diversity is good! FAMU and BCU are bringing something different. Outside of A&M, PV, UAPB, and sometimes JSU-most SWAC bands fit in the same mold and approach. We aren’t a monolith. No they may not be playing radio hits and centered in rap tunes, but they still do what they do well. They sound good! It’s too appreciated not ridiculed. We all have room at the table and they just bring a different element. While I feel it lacks “personality” their overall goal is a symphonic sound-which to some comes off bland and cookie cutter. SU approach is a brass/jazz band approach. Both are good at what they do Two different styles, two different approaches both with room for improvement and some mistakes but good in the lane they walk. There is no winner here because it will boil down to PREFERENCE.
DCI bands dont play with band tones neither . PLUS those students in DCI groups are the best well rounded musicians in the country. I wouldnt compare the 2 at all....Famu's sound is very much closer to an DCI group than Su is
@@MARCHING100PAPARAZZI not all bands including Southern that play loud have band tone-again deflection. You are making groups and bands a monolith and that is untrue. FAMU has room for improvement just as Southern. Southern doesn’t aim to model its sound based off DCI, the comparison was just as what I said about being “loud”. Southern wasn’t playing with bad tone. So again stop trying to elevate yourself while diminishing someone else because they take a different approach to the same thing. In the end, these “battles” aren’t adjudicated so in that realm, you would be correct there is no comparison. These “battles” are subjective to the listeners preference--thee end. Until we have adjudicated contest there is no winner or loser. You haven’t been in anyone else’s band room but yours; you don’t know their talent levels as I am sure everyone in FAMU band isn’t a first chair all-state, or solo and ensemble musician. You are doing the EXACT thing I just said. In the end our job is to ENTERTAIN, that’s it. Simple. The rest of its hogwash, smoke and mirrors to make one feel as though they are better than someone else.

ROUND 1: No winner. It's important to hear the 1st note, and Southern's 1st note was not on this recording. BTW tho, FAMU them FlagMen need to sit they ass down. Nobody needs to see them throw their hips back and forth. Next Callur! ROUND 2: Southern Despite Southern's Marvin Gaye "Mercy Me" needing a lil more work, FAMU's Erykah Badu was a Badon't. It lacked technicality and melody. Very repetitive and lifeless. Too safe for a band battle. ROUND 3: Southern "You don't need no other body" is the song of the year. "Anniversary" especially when it got to the bridge, reminded me of a the 7th grade Wind Ensemble Recital, with the squeeky clarinets, and the tempo problems. I will say the 2nd half sounded better than the 1st. But by then, too little too late. And y'all DRAGGED the ending. Cut that shit off and be about yo Father's business! ROUND 4: Southern Southern. Not bad, but you dragged the ending too, ODEE! FAMU said "AYE" and I felt like Lela Rochon on Waiting to Exhale: "AYYYYE????" Whet? Those Dancers are aggy AF. And that song should've been saved for the next campus Pep Rally. ROUND 5: Southern Southern, that song goes on for about 2hrs too long. I feel like I went into Quarantine, came out, and y'all was still playing that mug. FAMU could've had this one for charity, simply cause I've heard this song by Southern before, but the way the song cut off like the break of a Kit Kat bar, so jaggedly unexpected, it's a trash way to leave a last impression. I can't seem to determine if I hate them men in the front as much as I hate them white pants? OVERALL WINNER: Southern. #TheDifferenceisClear SIDENOTE: IDK if those are the FlagMen of Drummajors. It’s time to let the world know that FloridaA&M has the most beautiful young ladies in the world let alone the SWAC MEAC OR CADILLAC!!!! For that matter bc if y’all put them flags in front again……SMDH that’s not it, please just put some young ladies out in front to give another wow factor to go with that m100 swagg…. It definitely wouldn’t take away from the music in my opinion it will add to the progress we have made by moving to the SWAC and to keep evolving so why not. No thanks! We already have and have had beautiful ladies dancing in our band.
We don’t need dancers shaking their behinds, if they were majorettes back in the day yes, the flag team and M100 has precision and this is what makes us different not a bunch of weaves and butts all over the field.
Also SU Tubas & Baritones need to be arrested
Funny how the camera man is right in front of Famu band , but is o lu catching the side of SU sound.
Should have gotten in the middle of the field
OBVIOUSLY I was in the middle of the field if you actually WATCHED the video.....SU PD kicked me off the field 😒

I thought that song was SO WEAK!
Famu sounds good
And they were missing a whole bus of students due to covid/flu
@@giveyourself90days We pray for a speedy recovery.
I thought they were a little bit smaller over there but I believe it was kinda good because the others had to blow a little louder to make up for what was lacking and hopefully they stay in that habit mentality…

Lol they left out su last song when famu finish & made it like famu played the last song 😂😂😂
I’m sorry SU didn’t sound that great

Imma need the 100 to decide if it wants dancers or not. We have some of the most talented female dancers in the country. Why not give them a showcase? Especially if you gonna have the flag core half-assing it. Make a decision already. Either we gone have dancing or we not.
I think they decided 75yrs ago they didn't want dancers 🤔

These kids played their hearts out. Just appreciate that energy.
Shout out to everyone else that skipped past that HAZ-U intro. Just in case you need to, start at @0:31

Every time yall say that for now on. Im going to assume you're saying Famu have the best musicians in the world, and thats flattering. THANKS for the view
It's you.
The 💯 for the win.
IMO, SU’s drums were out of tune and gave a flat sound, and even though the arrangements were nice, it lacked balance. Every section can’t be loud all the time.
Each section of the ‘100’ gave articulation in EVERY song, and played more than whole, half and qtr. notes.
Dream on.
But but SU was loud 😂
SU with the W
Not.......🥱 Stop with the lies
@@Jumpmanian23 not being bias, actually listen to it bro. SU sounds better and is more entertaining
I gave the dub to SU as well
I have to agree. SU got the W
It’s a defense mechanism you all use to feel better about not catering to Top 40 and sticking to your style-that’s fine just don’t diminish others for choosing other approaches
SWAC Heads: diversity is good! Both are good at what they do
Two different styles, two different approaches both with room for improvement and some mistakes but good in the lane they walk.
SU. FAMU doesnt sound good without being it's normal size 300+. There is a lot of holes that normally are filled within their music.

@@josephreese5883 what battle you were watching. Your camera man didn't tape the last song SU played. Bruh SU can play for days. You folk just be talking! Thats what SU do! They will keep playing and they don't loose endurance. Don't believe me, go look it up Southern battles!
Yea because we were leaving and I packed my stuff up....
@@MARCHING100PAPARAZZI your fans are a trip. Why they think SU sound was edited. The same audio you have they have! Good job bruh
ROUND 1: No winner.
It's important to hear the 1st note, and Southern's 1st note was not on this recording.
BTW tho, FAMU them FlagMen need to sit they ass down. Nobody needs to see them throw their hips back and forth. Next Callur!
ROUND 2: Southern
Despite Southern's Marvin Gaye "Mercy Me" needing a lil more work,
FAMU's Erykah Badu was a Badon't. It lacked technicality and melody. Very repetitive and lifeless. Too safe for a band battle.
ROUND 3: Southern
"You don't need no other body" is the song of the year.
ROUND 4: Southern
Southern.
ROUND 5: Southern
Southern, that song goes on for about 2hrs too long.
#TheDifferenceisClear
SIDENOTE: IDK if those are the FlagMen of Drummajors. I pray they are not the DrumMajors OMM!
The Flag Corp is like 4 women and 2 men. I think.

I literally watched 3 5th back to back of Asu. They need a bigger book. Nobody but asu fans feel they the best band. lol
ASU?
@yoke le, Asu haven’t played the same songs in every 5th, so you showed your bias and ignorance with that statement.
Asu did get a W over Famu.🤷🏾♂️
Bruh ain’t lying. Bama State been waxing everybody in front of them this year. FAM and JSU especially.
The 100 haven't won a band battle in the swac yet but this wasn't bad at all their song choice arrangements are just unexciting. Their trumpets improved some but they are still really weak in comparison to all of the other trumpet sections (mellos too), I hope they can get that right next year. I was expecting a one sided beatdown like they got from bama state but they actually kept this close. This is the worst Southern has sounded this year, a performance like this against any of the other bands would've got them ran through.
1: FAMU 2: SU 3: FAMU 4: SU 5: SU
