its a danm shame there arent better copies of this, especially as how the bosko ones before this are in better condition or remastered. not that im complaining, as its nice to be able to see these in the first place. maybe 1 day they'll remaster and re-release *all* of their cartoons uncencored in one big huge boxset, including the censored eleven, and do it for the love of them and the cultural impact and historical significance these cartoons had and still have, and not do it for the money,
I'm verily new to UTUBE. I can't believe all the wonderful things here.I'm of the Merrie Molodies era. [This one a bit before my time lol] I thank you for them, and I like your bit's of info.Keep up the good work
Virtually EVERY cartoon studio at the time tried to imitate "Mickey" and "Minnie", 'Agu'- and Schlesinger/Warner Bros. was no exception. And because Harman and Ising HAD worked for Disney, it was easy to "come close", with "Bosko and "Honey". Legally, Disney couldn't do a thing about them....
Harman and Ising who animated this film worked closely with Walt Disney earilier in their career. It is actually pretty impossible to distinguish who's ideas were who's at that time. So yes, Mickey Mouse came first, but it was with the help of the same men who also made these films for Warner Bros.
Bosko was also MORE IMPORTANT HIMSELF a Mickey Mouse lookalike (so was Columbia's Krazy Kat, an abortion of the classic comic strip character)..Ironically it was Mickey and Minnie who were the first to speak in synchronized sound (even before then some systems were tested, but before Disney, Warner Bros. DID debut their OWN major sound blockbuster phenonmen with the Jazz Singer..so-oh...)
Every cartoon character from this period looked very similar. Mickey Mouse, Felix, Oswald, Bosko. It's not really a rip off, otherwise Mickey is a rip off of Felix.
But Warners owed their design existence then to Mickey...:) (This was actually true of a handfulk of studios, like the little known Van Buren, who even was famously SUED by Walt over this.)
in fact i think it would be awesome if warner brothers started showing these before their movies in the cinema again for a new generation to enjoy.
