This microphone is my secret weapon for vocal pickup on open stages and showcases where there will be multiple singers in one night. Some very famous microphones sound great on some singers and terrible on others. The TLM 107 is very neutral sounding, so I can make it work on anyone with just a little EQ. Also, it doesn't matter if the singer likes to be close or far, I just choose a pattern with the right "reach". If they bring a backup singer or have no pickup in their guitar, I can widen the pattern as needed for good capture. Back in my studio, it becomes a great "utility" mic that can solve many leakage problems by changing the pattern as Herr Kümmel describes. And, yes, I would not hesitate to use it as a section mic for orchestral strings. Should you buy one? No, probably you should buy two!
That’s decent praise! I would like to comprare it to other makers such as the Austrian audio. It’s a little more expensive but it could be better?
It’s for nylon string guitar that I search
Yes, I can compare them,@@travelthebest2676, since I own pairs of both. Both TLM 107 and OC 818 are excellent utility mics and both have a good sound. In the studio, I would say the '107 sounds a bit "classier" and having 5 patterns selectable right on the mic is very convenient. On location, a pair of '818's is incredibly versatile because, with dongles, you can adjust pattern after they are flown or widen a vocal mic when an on-stage performer is not staying put. Plus, with access to both diaphragm outputs you can use a pair to record "super M/S" which gives an extra degree of adjustment in post production. The versatility is unmatched, For SR use, you can ignore all the high-tech tricks and treat them as a better '414 replacement. Still, if you're primarily a studio rat, I give the nod to TLM 107. If someone shows up to overdub an instrument I've never encountered before, this is the mic I reach for. It has modern sound that I don't find elsewhere in the Neumann product line, but which turns out to be very useful. To me, it's fully deserving of a Neumann badge.
That was excellent info Rick grazie. I look forward to using them and will replace my line audio which I hope will be a step up in detail captured and having the other patterns will be very useful
Great review with practical examples.Thank you! Been looking at getting a 107. Appreciate the feedback.
I had to come back to this - great video and now this mic is on my list!

Informative
Thank heaps for the video, for recording pop vocals what's the best set up ? cheers
Hi! Have a look at our "Recoding Basics" videos: ua-cam.com/video/o9JzrRl5aYA/v-deo.html. There's five episodes that might help you!
Dear Carsten! I have a question : You have so many great mics, I really don't know what makes them different one from an other. Where can I get information ?
Hi, you can directly compare our microphones in our Microphone Finder with the 'compare' function. Check it out here: en-de.neumann.com/microphones. If you can, try them out yourself to see what works best for your individual project. In addition, corresponding sound samples for many situation are provided In our video tutorials on UA-cam, feel free to check them out here: ua-cam.com/users/GeorgNeumannGmbH.
So why was this designed with an edge terminated capsule?
i dont know what does edge terminated capsule mean?
Finally some review about this mic.. Neumann is so good but there’s just a few videos comparing the different models of microphone, and also the real difference between the expensive ones with the cheapest ones..
It really depends on the desired character of the recording. Many sound engineers choose mics and preamps according to what they want to record. Our recommendation: Try out different models, compare them to the mic pres in your audio interface and be sure you do proper AB comparison. A 0.1 dB difference (!) in gain can make the louder signal sound better. On our website neumann.com/homestudio/en/, you will find comprehensive tutorials with audio samples and product information to assist you in making a selection. The tutorials and information will give you a good insight into the microphones.

please georg neumann more review on the tlm 107
Hi Carsten. Thank you for your videos. A small question if you dont mind. I am trying to select a good mic for home trombone recordings using GarageBand, Mac, and a Focusrite solo interface. Currently I use a TLM 107 for voice/zoom/UA-cam recordings and I am looking for a separate mic to be placed into a small sound booth for trombone recordings. Could you suggest which mic would be most suitable from this list (or suggest one I have not listed) - TLM 170R, TLM 49, TLM 103, M147, TLM 193, M149. Many thanks.
is your last video in your channel recorded with tlm 107?
Hi there! We always mention all products used in our videos and put them in the info box as well.
@@GeorgNeumannGmbH please tell me should i buy u87 ai or tlm 107
@@GeorgNeumannGmbH thanks. Trying to separate out all the different mic options. I can find no clear explanation of what each is designed for (eg speech, vocals, brass etc). so my question is, out of the list, are any more suitable for brass.
@@demon-ll9eg No. I had a Rode NT1A for that.
You need to be careful, there is a gargoyle on your desk. It is well known, they emit a low frequency, 30 hz hum.
sir mic captures track sound from headphone while recording vocals..how to fix this ?
Through in-ear headphones. ;)
Franko Russo yes..its called mic bleeding i guess..
You need a better headphone, or you could just ignore it, like Finneas did with Ocean eyes
ChoJin ok thanku so.much
Closed back Headphones have good isolation and thus little bleed to the mic. This is why they're usually chosen as monitoring cans while recording vocals.

this micrphone or u87 ai?
