I just love the EMD sound. The 710 is ok, but nothing beats the 645 taking off from a stop with a heavy train. But they are DC traction which looks like all the railroads are parking. except BNSF and their love for the low tractive effort Dash 9s When everyone knows the AC4400 is superior in starting tractive effort and continuous.
Really dumb by ns to retire such great units while UP still have theirs in mainline service even in California hell they still using the 1993-94 built 70m's from SP and all 70m's still uses DC traction motors (UP's only DC mainline units still in service since the c44-9w are sidelined) the rest are AC units new and old except the sd90mac which the ns now has.
Anyone here actually work on these units? Specifically electrically? ONR bought 5 of these from PR. We are looking for information and are reaching far and wide. Progress Rail are not that reliable for information even after we spend millions at progress
Unfortunately, they did. Most went to progress rail with an unclear fate. The SD75Ms, however, all went for scrap at K&K recycling in Pickering Ontario Canada via CN. R.I.P: SD70s on NS, SD75Ms included 2000-2019/20 (the sd75ms lasted at least 6 years)
The single worst decision NS ever made was retiring their entire SD70M fleet. These units are only 15-17 years old, plenty of life left in these ultra reliable 710 powered locos. I would say they could have used them for a surge fleets but when you have no longer trains to move, why would you. NS has no trains since they slashed an overwhelming majority of them just so they could pocket the cash and give the rest to shareholders. Perhaps big railroads are too valuable to be private... Greed and corruption is the way of the land... What a waste, what a wasteful society we live in. I hope they find new homes...
5:38 Love that K5LLA!

I hope progress rail takes good care of them
you joking right lol
I miss them
It makes now sense why they got rid of them. They were relatively new and they were very reliable. PSR has destroyed NS
2:35 no flashing ditchlights
I was curious about that as well.
Please bring them back
NS is planning to rebuild there SD70M’s just FYI
Sorry to see so many Locomotive Retired but It Happen Its time for New ones

When is the best time to catch NS at Fostoria Iron Triangle? Just asking because I rarely see NS when I go.
It's the luck of the draw really. NS has been running a lot less trains lately, so it all depends on if you're there at the right time.
@@bnsf7562 ok thanks for the info
They are not retired anymore, they are bringing them back to rebuild them

Wait NS really retired their whole 70M fleet!?!??

What a sad, terrible time to be an NS fan or employee 😥

Thats PSR for ya
@@iliketrains1233 You're darn right.
@@hakeemsd70m At least up still has their sd70ms
@@iliketrains1233 Truth, and thanks. I almost forgot they still use their older EMD's. I haven't seen a UP SD70M in so long.
