Just preceding watching this instruction video, I watch another person show how to replace the RAM, but he did not explain that one needed to removed the screws on the bottom. His camera did show the back but no mention of the screws and no demonstration of using a card or plastic tab to release the inner workings from the case frame. Good job here.

There is only one RAM slot in this laptop. It supports up to 16gb. It really depends how much you wanna spend on it, but I would go with some better known brand just to have some piece of mind.

I wanted to replace the thermal paste since the temps were too high...~85c while playing facebook games (65c idle) but the heatsink was melted in place, so it was a waste of time opening it.

Having the same problem with an X540L. Doesn't power on without power adapter anymore. Measured the pins with a multimeter and they are connected properly to the motherboard, but the voltage on the 12V is missing.
Hi everyone, I recently upgraded the RAM and HDD on my X540LA. The only problem I caused or came across was apon restarting, the laptop shuts down immediately when using battery only, AC with battery in or out is fine, runs perfectly, remove the AC charger cable and the laptop shuts down immediately. Have switched batteries, done a pwr reset, removed the battery from Device Manager, all to no avail?? Any Thoughts or suggestions?? The only other thing I can mention is after the AC cable has been connected for awhile, it goes into a 1 seconcond on/off flash rythme, no cycle, just the on/off every second or so.. Hope you can help make sense of this and ssuggest where I may have gone array, Thanks in Advance, Paul.
Having the same problem with X540LA. Everything is connected fine, but the battery doesn't produce 12V anymore, even though the cells are charged. Seems like the voltage regulator in the battery breaks if you disassemble the laptop. Great Asus!

Yes you have to, and you need to clean the old paste off, then apply a rice size amount of thermal paste and put the heatsink back. Make sure you watch some other repaste tutorials as well if you are not sure.
I have Asus X540LA-XX975. I just bought SSD and two 4GB ram sticks... Wanted to add additional ssd for storage and expand ram, but looks like too much husle... Can I have two ssd's?
If you can find the adapter for SSD's that goes in the DVD readers place than you can place a second SSD. As far as I remember this laptop only supports one stick of Ram

Well I saw a video where the laptop was left outside in the rain for hours but it was turned off. Eventually the guy took the laptop apart and had to dry every last inch of it but guess what after he reassembled it, it worked.

You have GOT to adjust your intro and outro volumes to match the rest of the video. Had volume at max out of necessity because your voice was barely audible, to find myself deafened from your fucking outro!
It's a fucking awful laptop. Replacing the keyboard is a pain in the arse. A tip is, hot glue. To hold the new keyboard in place after being forced to break all the plastic tabs that hold the old keyboard in place.

I think these series never had one. Asus is using a capacitor instead of a CMOS battery. It would get power from the main battery.

You can replace the WiFi card, i am not sure about dual band though. Unfortunately i don't own this laptop anymore.

Hi. There is only one slot in this unit for RAM. The maximum it can handle is 16gb as far as I know.

Any 2.5" SSD would do the trick. I recommend at least 256gb depending on your usage obviously.

If you can, try to insert your hard drive into another PC. See if you can find any errors with it.

You have to google the ram for the laptop, you will find loads. I have upgraded this laptop with a 2.5 ssd, there is no m.2 slot.

Nope, its only an Intel HD Graphics in this. But there are other models with dedicated video card.
