Great video! I bought the same bearing removal/install tool from Jims a few years ago, it is the BEST. No more pounding with a hammer and a long drift, damaging the wheel around the bearing. One "cool" tip to the install I would mention, is to put the new bearing in the freezer for 30 minutes, keep it in the sealed plastic bag. The new bearing goes in a lot easier when chilled.
nice videos! appreciate it! got a question ,,, yeah I have a 1990 Harley Ultra Classic and I was wondering is there a kit that you can buy to replace all the bearing seals and everything on the primary side because I was looking and I didn't see a complete kit I seem like all different parts but I want to replace the clutch bearing the main bearing because I'm getting leaks over there in that side and I didn't know if you knew of a whole kit for that or not but thank you very much I appreciate your videos and I think they're great
Unfortunately as far as I am aware, there are no refresh or rebuild kits available. Only for the Motor. You will have to buy all the seals and gaskets separately. However I could be wrong.
another question |I know your very busy! I have a 1990 harley ultra classic, want to replace front fork seal, but have to remove entire fairing , is there a way to replace front fork internals while forks are on the bike and drop the bottoms off and do it that way it has the air suspension for front and would use suction to put in the oil? thanks alot!!
Enjoyed the video Dr. Harley...but I seem to have a problem since I installed my front wheel bearings on my 05 Roadking. It appears that the bearing no longer spin freely! I installed them till they stopped moving but is it possible they're up against the inside spacer not allowing them to spin??
@@DrHarley I want to thank you again Dr. Harley...I was able to back off the one side bearing slightly and now the bearings spin freely. I also discovered that intalling the rear wheel bearings, I drove them both in until just before seating and then used the bearing guides to hammer them in a little at a time until I could feel the inside spacer didn't have any play and the bearings spin. You saved me a bunch of money Sir, thanks again...
@@DrHarley, yes...no pay stealership which is about 150 miles away for me! I do have a problem...for some reason, both my front and rear brakes... all of a sudden I have to pump the handle/brake to get them to come up. Does this usually happen when you pull the brakes away from discs when changine wheels? Looks like i'll have to bleed them...
I’m adding an enforcer wheel to an 04 Road King. I pressed the primary side bearing all the way in. However, the axle sleeve (ordered through Harley dealership), sticks out inside the hub shy of 1/2”. This would prevent me from pressing in and bottoming out the 2nd bearing. If I press the 2nd bearing in, the inner race would be against the sleeve. The bearing would still press in far enough to not stick out past the edge of the hub though. Does this sound correct? Or did they possibly give me the wrong sleeve?
That does not sound correct. What year sleave did you get? And for what bike? When doing things like this, it is a custom application. So sometimes, you might have to make custom parts or modify them. Like the sleave and maybe axel spacers.
I thought so, thanks for the quick response. I was told the wheel was from a 14 street Glide with abs. I ordered the sleeve for that wheel, 6205 non abs bearings, as well as a 25mm axle kit. Looks like I’ll take it to the shop so they can see what I’m working with and hopefully get me the correct sleeve for the wheel.
Had my front tire changed at a local shop...now i have an abs light. when installing the bearing the thin groove side (abs side) goes into the wheel first or to the outside or to the outside? any help would be greatly appreciated
I have a 1998 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic and would like to change the wheel bearings. Do you know what bearing puller and installing kit I need? Most of the kits I've seen are for the years 2000 and up.
I believe that the bearings in that year where a tapered bearing. If so ypu will need a completely different kit. If they are sealed bearings than this kit would work out perfect for you.
This might be a dumb question, but how would you use the tool if it was a new rim and there wasn't a bearing on the other side of the hub when installing the first.
Thanks, great info Doc . I would have used a rubber mallet, So big thanks, going to do bearings this winter . Forks as well. Thanks for sharing with us ✌️
I just bought a tool on Jim's website bearing wheel installer/ Remover for $35... orion made ,, Works Great,,, I have a friend that had wheel bearings locked up three times on the rear. they found out they were using the wrong, they were the wrong size on his Harley it's a special size bearing thickness for abs systems, the shop use the wrong thickness bearing. he was going about 90 mph on the back tire locked up. he's okay but it's very frightening. having the right parts very important...
I brought my rim in to a shop and had the bearings changed on my 09 fatbob. Now they dont fit between the forks and the tire doesn't align under the front fender. Any idea of why that would be?
When working on nice stuff, protect the rim. Frustrating to polish your wheels, and suddenly "What tha...I don't remember that being on my wheel!". Old towel, rags, something...
This is the kit I recommend. www.amazon.com/Pit-Posse-Davidson-Bearing-Installer/dp/B005SUX9MI/ref=mp_s_a_1_18?crid=4ZBRS47BPQX8&keywords=omt+wheel+bearing+puller+tool+kit+compatible+with+harley+davidson&qid=1706108024&sprefix=harley++wheel+bearing+puller+kit%2Caps%2C86&sr=8-18&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840
@DrHarley there is a link to how to punch them bearings out without the special tool? Nice I'm sorry I guess I missed that part. I'll look closer for it thanks
I have a 2014 883n. The space on the inside had some play from the factory. I put some new ones in and there was no play. Is there any info on what that should be? The bearings I purchased are from hd.

It does. However, I worry about condensation going from the freezer to room temp. Especially in the bearing it self.
Thanks for the tutorial! I couldn't believe how long I was riding with a bad bearing, well explained!
Thank you and I am so happy that you received some value from my videos
Thanks for the great video. Any considerations with a new wheel and can I reuse the sleeve?
Yes you can reuse that inner sleve.

very helpful, ordered my pullers today - thanks !!
This really helped me out man, thanks a lot.
Glad it helped! And that you found some value from my videos.

You will have to remove the forks. The switch panel needs to be removed to get access to the upper tree.
Can you shim behind the bearing? Between bearing and spacer tube? Need to move outside face of bearing out .020 Let me know what you think.
You can not shim behind the bearing. There needs to be some play for the ease of the install and removal of the axel.
Thanks for the reply! Great video.
Hı, Are the reader bearings on the rims of Harley Breakouts disposable? Can it be reused after disassembling?
I would not recommend reusing wheel bearings after removing them. As the puller pulls out front the center.

Yes, you installed them too far. Back them out verry slightly and you should be good.

Is it possible the you have the ABS censor installed 180 deg? the metal side goes tords the fork. Or the bearings are not for ABS..
I will definitely be pulling it off and checking that....thank you very much for the speedy reply

Love the Intro guys, very informative video. Thank you
This might be a dumb question, but how would you use the tool if it was a new rim and there wasn't a bearing on the other side of the hub when installing the first.
Not a dumb question, If you use a larger disk than the hole in the hub, than you will be able to press the bearings in.
Got it, thanks!
Thanks for the awesome video doc
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
Great video Dr!
THANK You,, I am glad that you received some value out of it..
Great Video thank you so much made my job very easy :)
I am so happy that you got some value out of this video.
Really enjoyed this video
I am so glad. More to come.
What is the part number on JIMS website?
The part number is 285513 can be purchased on Dennis Kirk.
Thanks, great info Doc . I would have used a rubber mallet, So big thanks, going to do bearings this winter . Forks as well. Thanks for sharing with us ✌️
It's my pleasure. I also have videos on rebuilding forks.
@DrHarley ok i will look for it 👍
Where's the link for this "Jim's" kit? Lol

I am so glad that your friend is ok. Yes the proper parts and tools makes all the difference in the world
Where can i find that kit
They can be found on Amazon, JP Cycles and Cycle gear.
Thanks I'll look for them
Will be go east from Ohio this July might make Cape Cod one of are shop stops
Cap Cod is awesome. When I can get out there. It's always a great time. Depending on when you're out there , the traffic can be a beer.
I brought my rim in to a shop and had the bearings changed on my 09 fatbob. Now they dont fit between the forks and the tire doesn't align under the front fender. Any idea of why that would be?
It is possible that the bearings are not seated all the way in and as far as alignment goes. The bearings are offset in the hub.
Great video thanks!
Thank you for watching
Thanks for the vid!
I hope that you got some good value out of this video.
Good deal! I’ll be doing this soon when I do my own tire change on my road glide ST before riding season this year.
Good video as far as it goes, sadly you lost 10 points because you did no explain about the primary brake side for the first bearing installed.
Thank you.
When working on nice stuff, protect the rim. Frustrating to polish your wheels, and suddenly "What tha...I don't remember that being on my wheel!". Old towel, rags, something...
Good point. However that was a junk wheel for demonstration purposes.
Holy shit that sealed bearing puller/ seater set is almost $500
This is the kit I recommend.

I found a $47 kit also 🤔 i’m gonna give it a try and let you know.
Awesome. Best of luck.
Great video. But how does the average guy who doesn't have the special tool, Do it? I know there's a way
And that's why I put a link in the description for the tool.
@DrHarley there is a link to how to punch them bearings out without the special tool? Nice I'm sorry I guess I missed that part. I'll look closer for it thanks

It's a possibility that there was a part change to make the bearings thicker. With no play with that inner spacer, I believe that you're fine
